All about homebased jobs [thread 4]
« on: June 04, 2017, 11:06:10 pm »
[Continuing the thread here...]

I just wanna ask those working from home:

(1) How did you start out with your homebased job?
(2) What do you feel are the disadvantages, if any, of working in the confines of your house?
(3) Do you miss working in an office setting?
(4) Would you consider going back to working in an office?

1. I started with Bizmates last year. Nag-apply lang ako. underwent their screening process like normal. Didn't have any previous experience with online teaching/homebased jobs.

2. Huge disadvantage for me is my daily schedule. Wala akong fixed time to work, eat, or sleep. I have a toddler that I breastfeed on demand and I don't have a yaya so it's really difficult finding time to work ng diredirecho. That's why I opt for jobs na flexi time, those that I can do on my own free time. Currently, I usually work nights when my daughter is sleeping (she still wakes up 2-3x a night to feed so putol putol pa rin ang work ko). When she wakes up in the morning dun pa lang ako usually matatapos magwork then I have to attend to her na.

3. I don't miss working on a usual work setting, but I miss having a fixed schedule, na after 8 hours eh tapos na ang trabaho. Ngayon kasi sometimes I feel like I'm working 24/7 kasi nga putol putol.

4. Right now, no. I enjoy my jobs (yes, multiple). Kahit feeling ko mas pagod ako, but it really has a little to do with working from home, it's mostly from taking of my daughter AND working from home at the same time. Pero really, I enjoy what I do, I get to enhance the skills beyond my educational background. Sobrang dami ko natutunan so far.

(1) How did you start out with your homebased job?

I start in Odesk back in 2010, per walang naghire. Haha, then this year March 2017 sa Upwork I polished my resume.

(2) What do you feel are the disadvantages, if any, of working in the confines of your house?

(3) Do you miss working in an office setting?

(4) Would you consider going back to working in an office?

Kinda, siguro pag malaki na anak ko.

(1) How did you start out with your homebased job?

Had absolutely zero direction! Started applying at online tutoring.

(2) What do you feel are the disadvantages, if any, of working in the confines of your house?

The freaking internet connection! :( When I'm at the office, the internet isn't my problem lol. If wala nga internet, happy pa. Daming excuses not to get stuff done! LOL. Now I'm accountable to my internet :'(

(3) Do you miss working in an office setting?

Yes, I need workmates, kahit isa lang... Konti lang kase friends ko. I miss seeing people and greeting them and being greeted back. :D

(4) Would you consider going back to working in an office?

Definitely! Looking at it actually. Reason is because... What I used to earn in a day, I'm now earning in a week :o juicecolored. Wala pang benefits!

(1) Back in 2006. Yes, more than a decade ago. It was my sister who told me about online jobs. I was taking my Masters and didn't have a job, so I figured why not take a shot.

(2) The constant fear of losing your job.  There's no stability when you work online. Mga naka 30+ na ata akong clients for the past 11 years. But to be fair, I have a client whom I've been working with for 9 years now. Kaya lang, yung mga stable clients ko either 1) the pay is meh or 2) the job is really stressful.

(3) Definitely NOT. I don't like commuting, pollution, office politics, small talks, useless meetings, etc.

(4) I've thought about it whenever I lose a client, but I don't think I would ever go back to working in an office. I don't think I can earn as much as I'm earning now if I work in an office. Heck, I've stayed here for over a decade na. Eh I only worked in an office for 2 years lang. :D

(1) How did you start out with your homebased job?

I made an upwork account and sent nunerous applications while i was still working at a bpo company

(2) What do you feel are the disadvantages, if any, of working in the confines of your house?

No work,  no pay lol! Kasi you are paid by the hour and if you don?t feel like finishing up your weekly hours eh ok lang naman kaso yun nga bawas kita hehe.

Tama din na mostly temporary ang work pero you have the choice and time to get as many online jobs as you can ng sabay sabay ha, nasa sayo na pano mo handle yun. So in a way hindi mo din problema mawalan ng work kasi hindi ka nababakante. And yun nga you can earn way more than having an office job

(3) Do you miss working in an office setting?

No not really. I hate office politics and gossips.

(4) Would you consider going back to working in an office?

No. I hate traffic lol! At yung kelangan mo pa mag consider ng travel time like 2 hours or so to go to work. I hated that. Eh sa work from home kahit gumising ka 30 mins before your work sked keri lang.

(1) How did you start out with your homebased job?

(2) What do you feel are the disadvantages, if any, of working in the confines of your house?

I gained 10 pounds.  ;D

(3) Do you miss working in an office setting?

Super duper uber no. I'm an introvert so swak sa akin ang home-based jobs.

(4) Would you consider going back to working in an office?

Definitely, no.

I've been working at the college for two years. When I get used to my main work, I decided to find a second, home-based,  job. Despite full working day, I have enough free time, so why not spend it usefully? I've been thinking and searching a lot till finally, I found my current job. I started working as a freelance writer at essayshark. For me, it's easy to combine both of my jobs, and now I'm very satisfied with it!
I've even got time to help my son with his homework assignments and other tasks!

(1) How did you start out with your homebased job?

After I had my first born 8 yrs ago, I brought my office work and do them at home, and finally decided to look for a home based  job, found one in an online forum , submitted application, got interviewed via Skype, took exams and became a full time VA up to this day

(2) What do you feel are the disadvantages, if any, of working in the confines of your house?

Distractions
Our sometimes intermittent internet connection

(3) Do you miss working in an office setting?

I only miss being with officemates specially during lunch hours, but this gets fixed by meeting my online workmates at least once a month

(4) Would you consider going back to working in an office?
No..

(1) How did you start out with your homebased job?

My little girl was around 7 months at that time (this was January 2010), medyo sakitin sya. Ang hirap mag-leave sa office. Yung huli kong leave ginawan ng issue - bakit daw ako nagleleave pa, e pwede naman yung asawa ko na lang kasi easier for him (management level na sya). Nabwisit ako - sabi ko di pwede laging ganito. I made the jump and resigned. At that time though, meron na kong small writing gig.

(2) What do you feel are the disadvantages, if any, of working in the confines of your house?

1. Parang di natatapos ang trabaho. LOL. Kung sa office, may time in and time out ka, sa bahay wala! :D Buong araw at gabi, time in! They all mesh into one big 'workday'. Hehe.

And also sa mga tulad kong workaholic, it makes work within reach anytime, so for me, basta may free time ako, trabaho hanap ng katawan ko. Hahahaha! Ayun, minsan pati weekend nakakatrabaho ako. I just have to constantly remind myself why I decided to work from home - at hindi yun magwork pa more kundi magfamily time pa more. :D

2. Social life suffers. Buti na lang I have mommy friends who also work from home, so pak na pak. Hindi man kami parehong-pareho ng work, pareho naman ng circumstances, so keri na din. Best part is pwede kaming mag-meet up anytime para magchikahan. Yun e kung sipagin lumabas. :D

(3) Do you miss working in an office setting?

Ngayon, I can say with conviction na hindi na talaga. I don't miss it at all anymore. Nung early years medyo pa eh.

(4) Would you consider going back to working in an office?

Been at it for 8 years and a few months now, so... hindi na talaga. Hindi ko din inexpect na ganito katagal ko maeenjoy ang freelancing/working from home, so super thankful ako kay God. Sana tuloy-tuloy lang. :)
