St. Lukes Quezon City Childbirth Experience

My partner and I decided to give birth to out first child at St. Lukes Global through the normal delivery package (P68,000). Ok na lahat naka downpayment na pero nagka complication (preeclampsia) so hindi na pwede package. A little over 37 weeks in, sabi ng Dr. punta agad emergency room pag tumaas blood pressure and unfortunately, tumaas nga so we went to the ER of St. Lukes Global.

Ang ganda ng high risk pregnancy unit may TV and La-Z boy for boyfriend bantay. Unfortunately, sabi ni Dr. lipat nalang sa QC kasi masmalapit sya dun para mas matutukan so lumipat kame. Need din ng CS pala the next day. Okay si Dr. napakagaling and caring and lahat ng doctors sa St. Lukes QC magagaling talaga. Pero yung problema ay sa facilities at sa isang nursing aid and ilang nurses.

Yung delivery room palang sa QC mejo disappointing na. Yung high risk pregnancy unit ng QC sobrang liit; natulog ng nakaupo si boyfriend, kawawa.

All in all (less deductions), we spent a total of about P140K sa hospital including PFs. Lumaki dahil premature si baby and a little over a week kami bago umuwi. Mejo disappointing talaga dahil sa facilities ng St. Lukes QC and yung ibang staff. Again, napakagaling at bait ng OB namin ang yung CS pala ay miraculously naging normal. Our nightmare started when we moved to the maternity ward.

Eto ang mga problems na naencounter namin sa St. Lukes Quezon City:

1. Ang baho nung small private room tapos nasira aircon ilang beses kaya naistorbo pagpupump ng breastmilk. Binaklas yung aircon 11:30 PM and mga 20 minutes din ginawa tapos nagliparan alikabok sa room. Nasira din the next day 2x tapos next day ganun ulit. Lumipat kami eventually pero ganun din; very old room na weird-smelling ang aircon.

2. May bastos na nursing aid (kala namin head nurse sya) - according to a reliable source mayabang mga nursing aid sa St. Lukes QC kasi may union sila or something. Parang social service treatment sa amin kahit nasa private room naman kame.

3. Hindi marunong magsterilize yung isang nurse. Binalik nya may milk residue pa kaya hindi ni wash or check man lang and sabi nya rinse lang daw ng hot drinking water pwede na gamitin. Sobrang incompetent at negligent na unacceptable talaga so tinawag ko charge nurse. Ayun sorry daw miscommunication lang daw etc.

4. Sa NICU where baby was, nag apply sila ng floor sealer/finish sa floor na nakakahilo. As in hindi enclosed yung mga babies na nasa intensive care unit. Actually naka electric fan pa nga floor diretso sa hindi ma close na door ng NICU yung hangin. Shocking talaga considering the fact na may mga babies na may tube sa lungs. Nakakahilo talaga and sabi nga nung isang dad nauseous daw sya sa fumes. Inistop lang nila nung sinabi namin sa charge nurse pero sabi nung nurses ganun daw talaga ginagawa even inside the NICU para malinisan daw germs. Sabi nung isang nurse safe naman daw yun pero yung charge nurse sa station naka mask kasi nakakahilo talaga yung amoy.

5. Sa NICU, bawal celphone pero yung ibang nurses gumagamit naman. Tapos kailangan may gown and handwashing before pumasok, pero yung mga burping cloth nilalagay lang sa mga chair tapos ginagamit uli sa babies. Kahit nga mahulog sa floor ginagamit parin unless papalit mo talaga.

6. Sa NICU din meron area na hindi supervised lagi ng staff so pag andun ang baby mo pwede gawin kahit ano ng ibang parents na nasa loob. Ok naman most nurses pero yung iba mejo sablay din.

7. Nag complain kame sa hospital pero pinagpasa pasahan lang kame sa mga "patient relations" staff ng St. Lukes (4 na tao nakausap namin). Yung isa bigla nalang hindi nagpakita nung last two days namin busy daw attending to another patient e sabi nya before disappearing pinrocess nya daw complaint and may hinihintay lang from higher ups. Sorry sila ng sorry wala naman ginawang action. Yung nursing aid and nurse nandun lang happy happy sila bago kame umalis.

*I documented almost everything so may evidence ako sa mga sinasabi ko including yung chemicals sa NICU, midnight aircon repair and palpak na milk bottle sterilization. Pano ba magpost ng pictures dito?

Wala kaming time or money to sue them. We just want to warn other parents so they can avoid the nightmare that we went through. Iyakan kami ng iyakan sa room and naubos several hours kausap yung useless "patient relations" people.

Anyway, kasama na namin si baby ngayon and healthy sya so we're still very thankful. If anyone else had a similar experience, I'd love to hear about it.

Nagsumbong kami sa close friend na ex St. Lukes Global employee and two words lang sinabi nya about yung palpak na staff: BRAIN DRAIN

In a nutshell: Parang masakit sa bulsa talaga kasi yung facilities and ibang staff, government hospital quality. Ang masakit pa talaga, same ang rates ng St. Lukes QC and Global kahit sobrang layo ng difference ng facilities at service. Yung mga doctors lang talaga and edge ng hospital.

I know how you feel because I'm planning to give birth there and my OB is also the reason we're going there. I have preeclampsia so your post got me very curious. I'm in my 36th week and according to my OB, I should get a CS if my symptoms worsen. My question is regarding the PF of your doctor in the NICU because most likely my baby will stay there. I'm planning to go with Dr. AE who is a renowned neonatologist. I heard her PF is around P5,000 per day, any idea if this is true? Did you use health insurance for yourself or the baby? My partner has Intellicare and they say we can enrol the baby as soon as he is born to help with the bill. Any insights would be very helpful, thanks!
