Pregnancy Hygiene

hi mga sis!

just wanted to open this topic up since medyo marami akong questions/concerns about maintaining good hygiene while pregnant and maybe you guys have some experiences to share. :)

so far, the only major change i've done was switching from pond's facial wash to human heart nature. i've read articles saying kase na pag pregnant mag-avoid ng products na may salicylic acid.

but i'm really curious about the following too:

1. is it safe to use feminine wash while pregnant? i've read in other forums na advisable daw sya meron din nagsasabi na hindi. any insights on this? or if you're using it, any recommended brands?

2. anyone here who uses pantyliners daily? or change underwear more than twice a day? was it advised by your ob?

3. how about shampoo/soap & other toiletries? may mga bawal din ba or mga brands na preferred for us na preggy?

would love to read all your kwentos and feedbacks! :)

hi sis f878, i shower twice a day now. not a lot of pregnant women or moms talk about it but it's mentioned in babycentre amd what to expect when you're expecting, some women (including myself)  find that their down there area smells stronger during pregnancy - a combination of needing to pee more and more discharge. so i shower everyday, switched to unscented wet wipes, use pantyliner, and wash with a mildly scented feminine wash. it really helps with everything.

for soaps and shampoos, we switched to organic products - we now use dr. bronner's soap and argan oil organic shampoo. for my facial wash, i switched to cetaphil.

for lotions, i switched to  an organic moisturiser - the brand is gaia. this really helped with my very dry itchy skin. once i started using it, the itchiness stopped.

i also used earth mama angel baby nipple butter for my dry nipples. it really worked wonders. sometimes i use it for my stretching tummy.

1. switched to gyne pro as advised by ob, used once a day.  i noticed na mas ok siya.

2. stopped using panty liner kasi napansin ko mas nagkaka itching ako when i use one kaya change undies often nalang ako.

3. no changes sa soaps na gamit ko.

sis 120515, thanks for sharing your trusted brands! will be on the look out for these. :) and yes, it really feels good to be fresh and clean lalo na with all the body function changes (sweat glands on overdrive!) samahan pa ng humidity dito sa pilipinas.

sis emjey03, try ko nga din yang gynepro. lactacyd user kase ako dahil i like the cooling sensation keme pero i'm very willing to try out other healthy alternatives. :)

Twice ako magshower, even when I was pregnant. I still used feminine wash, lactacyd. Re: soap, I just used my usual Dove na white.

I stopped using lotion, and facial products towards the end of my 2nd trimester. Nung una, I used the Sensé line (cleanser, toner, day and night creme). It was good sa skin ko and organic din pero I decided to stop using anything na lang. But sobrang thankful ako for pregnancy hormones kasi my skin especially my face got better kahit wala akong nilalagay. Even upto now na 1 month old na baby ko, I still don't put anything on my face, pero I feel and look poreless pa din just like when I was pregnant.

Since i have PCOS, before i knew i was pregnant, i was using 3 products for my face prescribed by my derma kasi sobrang dami kong acne, excluding pa dun yung facial wash ko. I am only using dove for my face.

1. As per my ob and my hubby who's a doctor din, okay lang na hindi na magfeminine wash kahit tubig lang panglinis mas okay pa nga daw. Hehe. If you opt to use feminine wash yung mga mild lang. I am using lactacyd na yung pink (hindi yung original ha.

I change my undies lang 2-3 times per day kaya tinuloy ko lang yung ganun until now.

3. Simula nung nabuntis ako palit lahat ng toiletries. I am using tendercare soap, tendercare powder, dove soap (for my face), at wala akong pinapahid sa mukha. I think go for organic ones na lang sis. Now im using dove roll on na pink as suggested by sis belle approved naman ni hubby at so far okay naman resulta sakin.

actually curious din ako jan sis angelholics since for some women part na ng routine nila ang facial treatments. i was worried kase before na pag nabuntis ako baka mag-breakouts ulit ako pero so far at 10wks ok pa ang skin ko. siguro if really needed hingi ka muna ng advice sa ob & derma para sure and maybe some of our sisses ay may mga mashe-share din. :)

sis kiiismet, effective naman yung dove sa face? just in case di mag-workout yung human heart nature baka mag-dove na din ako. and concern ko din yan about sa deo. buti dove ang na-stock ko last time nag-grocery kame. btw, it's so cool that you're husband's a doctor! i'm sure very helpful sya lalo na pagdating sa health concerns. :)

Bawal anything na whitening. Soap, lotions.

And true enough konti lang ngayon compared nung bago ako mabuntis. Try mo yung dove na deo sis kasi yung human nature sakin effective sakin siguro 1st 2 weeks after that wala ng effect. 😊 Haha. Oo masayang doctor siya. Pero minsan maselan masyado, maraming bawal. Haha. Lols

^sis emjey03 minsan nagpapabili lang ako sa palengke. Last time nakakita ako sa sm kaya mega hoard ako haha.

Teratogenic effect. I forgot to ask about those Ang sure ko lang yung vitamin a at salicylic acid

^Thanks sis! Pag maaga lang talaga ako nagigising at nakakapagprepare for work kaya ako nakakagamit. Other than that, wala nakong inaapply sa katawan. :)

When I found out that I was preggy, I stopped applying lotion na, personal choice ko lang to para lang makasigurado haha. Changed also my shampoo, facial wash and feminine wash to Human Heart Nature. My soap to Dove. All were good naman. And totoo yung sabi ng mga sis na stronger yung smell down there and yung body odor medyo nag-iba din due to hormonal changes, so ligo talaga lagi :D I also switched to lighter lip balm kasi nagiging chappy din lips ko.

Iwas lang talaga sa mga stuff na may strong ingredients/chemicals since it can affect the development of your baby. For the feminine wash, my OB also suggested na better nga yung water alone hehe. Basta always keep it dry to prevent bacteria from developing :)

Ang problem ko now is pimples galore ako sa may chin area, i'm using lush fresh pharmacy kasi organic naman siya minsan vmv facial wash for oily skin. I stopped na with my tretinoin treatment at serums but i feel wala ako glow and haggard ng face ko.. ask ko sana if pwede tayo sa mga oils like rosehip oil?

How do you clean your nipples mga sis?
