UST-Sahagun Incident
« on: February 25, 2016, 07:00:20 pm »
Hello mga Sis! I can't stop myself from giving my reaction on the UST Sahagun Incident. As someone who gave birth. We have discussed what are the other situations that may make the bill differ from what was agreed. I do not understand but there are a lot of private hospitals na smaller than UST around Manila and talagang pinilit nya sa UST knowing na private hospital ito.

And sino yun OB na kino-consult nila before? Hindi si dr. Sagahun yun doctor nila eh.

Tapos, siguro sa panic din nya bumalik sila ng UST instead of looking for another public hospital. Or baka naisip niya di maasikaso ang wife nya sa public hospital kaya he insisted na mag private?

Anyway, government for lack of facilities (corruption in budget is the problem), yun parents di nakapag ipon, yun policy ng private hospitals.. All these became factors kaya ganun ang nangyari.
I'm also waiting for UST hospital's statement. Hindi porque employed sa hospital, may discretionary to waive the required deposit.

The people shot the messenger (dahil siya ang nag-relay ng hospital policy). I hope this incident will not destroy her dream and her motivation to help others in the future.

True sobrang kawawa naman yung future ng doctor kasi napakarami niya pinagdaanan to become a resident doctor in a prestige hospital like UST, I also don't understand why most of the people are one-sided kasi in the first place we are all not in the situation so I pray na sana maging successful parin si Dra. Sahagun at the same time ma-settle ng UST and issue with Mr. Pelayo.

I don't think UST or the doctor involved will air their official statement. Give it a few more days at makakalimutan din ng mga tao yan without them defending themselves. Being a Thomasian myself (5yrs college + 5yrs work), kahit ako hindi ako impressed sa patakaran ng UST hospital. ang hindi lang kasi maganda, social media blows everything up. Ang dami kong batchmates/classmates and former students who are doctors (or are still in the program) defending their colleague, and they all have their valid points. May point naman ang hindi pag-admit dahil sa policy ng ospital and what can they do, empleyado lang din sila. But some of them tend to personally attack the family, especially yung tatay -- na wala naman daw palang trabaho gawa pa ng gawa ng bata, na hindi man lang pinaghandaan yung panganganak, na pumirma ng waiver kahit hindi naman alam ang nakasulat. Wala naman mareresolve dyan since the baby's gone, and people will never stop pointing fingers. This one became special because it was posted on social media.

I just don't like the way the father blamed and singled out the resident OB. And the way the social media is judging her.

It's the flaw of the hospital's policies (or our country's healthcare system) that should be blamed. It's really unfair for her to be judged and for the parents to be deprived of proper treatment.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, it's not the duty of the resident OB to decide whether to admit a patient or not. It's my theory, na kinausap na lang niya yung magulang regarding the situation.

I've gone to MMC triage (ER for pregnant) pero hindi naman ako hiningan ng deposit. Didn't show my healthcard na din kasi, checkup lang yung covered. Yung ibang hospitals ba humihingi ng deposit?

this is a very sad story and just underlines the horrible healthcare system we have in the Philippines.

I pray for the baby and the pelayo family. I also pray for the young doctor.

Sis ako naman sa HIJ nanganak. Wala namang deposit na hiningi pero I have a letter from my OB which has the instruction of what the nurses should do to me once I step on the hospital for labor. Palagay ko lang sis dapat prior to panganganak meron na talaga dapat silang plans or agreement with their doctor. And maybe puno ang UST that time and the only available rooms are the expensive ones na. I don't know but kawawa lang talaga yung resident OB sa bashers sa social media.

it's hard to judge whether a person was being responsible in an emergency situation - we were not there and we are not in mr. pelayo's shoes. if we were in the same situation with a bleeding pregnant wife and very little time, i don't think we would think very clearly as well and we'd probably go on auto-mode (ie, do what we have done before, which was what he did).

Same sentiments for me lang sana may nag advise sa kanya na private hospital ang UST he could bring his wife sa Fabella or sa malapit na public hospital matic na talaga na private hospital has it's own SOP in regards sa ganyang situation tsaka sana meron syang admission slip from their ob. Both of them are victim of situation.

in situations like this although mahirap we have to be objective. Kawawa ang baby definitely. Lesson learned dapat for pregnant couples it is not a joke to be pregnant it is a life and lives involved pa nga. I am just wondering why they didnt go to their OB instead and why UST pa. Di ba naisip nung couple beforehand they had months of preparation.

Here's my point about it:

Kung may boyfriend ka or asawa ka no matter anong age mo kung active kana sa sex, be ready na mabuntis. At kung sakali man na nabuntis kana, you can prepare for it as early as first check up! Ako Nung nalaman ko palang na buntis ako syempre in doubt pa ako sa 1st check up ko, so nung 2nd check up ko I already asked my then OB magkano charge nya sakin sa panganganak from NSD, NSD Epid to CS. Sabi nga sakin be positive na mag NSD ka pero your budget should be based on worst case scenario. Which I did. Hindi ako kasal sa tatay ng anak ko kahit nagsusupport sya nag ipon ako while pregnant at hindi ko ginawang excuse na buntis ako para mag stay lang sa bahay doing nothing and would expect na manganak sa private hospital which is not really on my mind ever since dahil alam ko maraming government hospitals na they can perform well, nakatipid pa ko.

Another, kung private hospital ka may rules talaga sila and you can't blame the resident doctor there kasi hindi naman kanila yung hospital eh. The best thing that the doctor could do is to advice you which is I think ginawa naman ng doctor, and hindi lang nya nasabi is that they could opt to seek for help sa mga NGO para matustusan pero dapat nag canvass na sila as early as nagpa check up sila dun sa OB nila about sa package ng panganganak at dapat tinanong nila since may case na pala yung asawa nya na mahihirapan na manganak and according sa video naka scheduled CS na sya so yung OB nila whoever he/she is already gave an ultimatum about sa panganganak nya which is dapat prepared na sila. Nagtanong na dapat sila how much yung charges, and if they think hindi nila afford, they could opt to government hospitals or lying in. I know someone na CS sya sa lying in at 8000 lang binayaran and malaki na ang baby nya ngayon and they are okay.

Naaawa ako sa family at sa namatay na baby but pointing fingers is not the answer to this. First and foremost masakit man pakinggan pero private hospitals needs maintenance wala subsidy from the government yang mga yan. Only those who can afford are the one they are catering to most of the time but there are still na kahit mahirap ka they will still let you in. The problem is like this, emergency yun eto sabi nila ang pera kikitain pero ang buhay hindi, which is true diba? The point is kada kibot mo sa private hospital may bayad.

There are a lot of hospitals in Manila at sa time na yun, mabilis ang traffic. The problem is they didn't do their part which is to research further about the hospital's policy. Mali naman sa doctor, it was an emergency she should have offered ambulance to transfer hindi pinagtaxi lang. Pero sa first na punta daw may heartbeat pa yung bata at umabot pa ng Jose Fabella, tapos bumalik ulit sa UST kasi pinipilit nila, if probably finollow nalang nila yung sinabi na una or probably searched for another hospital, chances are the baby is still alive.

I hope this will serve a lesson to all na maganda lang ang service ng private hospitals if you have money. Condolence to the family.
