In fairness to Gretchen (and I can't believe I will kind of defend her kasi I don't really like her LOL), para sa akin, she doesn't fit the general description of Kabit.
Legal definition aside, for me pag sinabing kabit parang yung secret hidden mistress.

And hindi naman siya home wrecker because when she and Tony got together, MATAGAL ng hiwalay si Tony and Denise. And Denise left Tony, although they parted on very good terms and remain good friends. Tony dated other showbiz girls before Gretchen like Christine Jacob and Plinky Recto.

However, accd to friends, despite being separated Tony remained STILL very much in love with Denise when he got involved with Gretchen, and Gretchen herself was having an affair (yan ang "talagang" affair LOL) with the married Bong Revilla when she was going out with Tony boy. Kaya nga di ba, there was a lot of speculation who the real father of Dominique is.

There was also that famous incident in the mid 1990s that people still talk about, when Gretchen threatened to shoot herself at the lobby of Tony's apartment kasi ayaw siyang papasukin ng bodyguards ni Tony kasi Tony was upstairs having dinner with Denise.

And to dispel another wrong rumour, hindi si Denise ang ayaw mag pa annul. According to a mutual friend who is close to both Tony and Denise (*disclaimer - 2nd hand info yan  ) it is Tony who has never asked for an annulment. Allegedly because he was so in love with Denise, they never signed a pre nup so just maybe he is being practical and protecting his financial assets.

Anyway give credit where it's due Gretchen and Tony have stayed together for over 20 years, that's still pretty long considering her affairs with John Estrada and Dody Puno.

Attack from the bashers ngayon sina John Lloyd and Bea. Si JLC parang napaka galing na bf sa umpisa kasi di ka niya idedeny kesehodang may promo siya na movie di siya nagbibigay ng showbiz answer. I heard na galante din daw. BUT kapag nagsawa na siya parang mukha siyang naluge at ang bills niya talagang makamove-on no wonder it always seems like overlapping. At pinag-aawayan talaga siya ng mga girls ha. Yeah he's intelligent, funny, and charismatic but his really napapanot na yun hairline niya ang taas taas na in a couple of years makakalbo na siya. To think na me shampoo commercial siya ha.

What I find weird is that all those girls na na-involved sa kanya are very friendly to him.. Parang they hold grudges but they won't talk bad about him.

Noon siguro sis ganyan ang definition ng kabit pero ngayon kasi ang mga kabit talagang wala ng kahihiyan na kahit ipaglantaran pa nila sa buong mundo, wala silang pakialam. For me, basta pumatol ang isang babae sa lalake na hindi pa annuled or divorced sa previous wife nya, whether the guy is no longer living with his previous wife, kabit pa rin na matuturing si mistress.

Agree with you Sis, don't get me wrong ha, I also do not condone mistresses. Siguro for me parang I associate that word with the secret type of kabits. But 100% agree with you, it's not right.

I think people like to refer to Gretchen as a mistress kasi she BEHAVES like a steoreotypical mistress. Parang yung sa movies or TV - yung typical mistress who nakapag affair lang with a rich man biglang show off na ng expensive lifestyle.

My friends and I were laughing at some of Gretchen's Instagram posts. Yung kunyari she wants to show the food she is eating but you can tell what she REALLY wants to show is the diamond on her finger or her expensive watch. 

Kunyari pa "Oh look at this cake!" eh hindi naman naka focus sa cake LOL.

For me, if you are going to be showoff-y, then people will naturally observe and comment on everything that you're showing off.

All these years, you NEVER hear any criticism of the billionaires wives - you don't hear anything bad about the Zobel ladies, the Madrigal women or even the Filipina wives/partners of the Brunei family. Kasi they don't flaunt, kahit na yung lifestyles nila is probably ten times MORE lavish than Gretchen's. Hindi naka Instagram for the whole world to see 

I don't think she realizes that mas lumalabas yung pagka social climber and trying hard ni Gretchen when she flaunts the lifestyle that she didn't really didn't earn, or as you ladies said correctly, she doesn't legally deserve.

I saw a few of her videos and gosh, ang arte na niya ngayon. She reminds me of KC in terms of how conscious and maarte she is in front of the camera.

I used to see her at my cousin's house many years ago and she was so simple and natural then. Ngayon I find her way of talking so contrived - parang she practices in front of the mirror LOL

I don't know about the other suicide attempts of Greta if true or not but this one is very true and naging headlines in the 90's. Greta committed suicide by taking many sleeping pills and that's because of her live-in partner Joey Loyzaga who left her. Nag agaw buhay talaga sya sa hospital. yun ang mga news noon.
