^sis, usually eto yung kailangan mo punuin (in order of priority)
1. Clean up debt
2. Build up emergency fund (3-6 months worth of salary)
3. Get insurance (to protect income if you have dependents)
4. Invest

Never invest money that you need to use, say in a few months time for something important. Long term kase ang investment. Especially if equity (stocks) ang kukunin mo. Maganda ang return, but you need to keep it for at least 5 years.

Kung kaya ng budget mo. You can invest 5k first sa MF.

I like the sensibility in this advice. thanks, Ms. jenny syngkit.

can you share more on your actual investments, please.  just pointers to investment principles you actually follow. not actual figures, please. baka dumugin kayo ng mangungutang. hehe..

^Hi. Right now, we have emergency fund (nasa savings lang). It's a growing fund  galing siya sa sobra from our home amortization. For example P8,999 yung monthly amortization namen, we put in P10,000 sa bank para merong sobra every month. Pag naipon na and more than the required emergency fund, we use it pay for yearly lumpsums sa house - realty tax, fire insurance, MRI, etc.

Me and hubby both have life insurance. Hindi naman OA sa laki, just enough just in case something happens. Ok yung plan na nakuha namen, you just pay 50k yearly for 5years tapos insured na for 1M. Tapos when we reach retirement age, we can opt to withdraw the money (more or less nasa 1M din). So if walang mangyari sa amin and we don't need insurance anymore, we can use the money as retirement fund :)

For investments, puro mutual funds and UITFs. We don't do stock trading kase hindi kaya ng oras. We get from different MFs/UITFs (Philequity, BDO, BPI, Sec Bank). Different companies have different strategies kase, so yearly iba iba din performance nila. Pero si Philequity consistently top MF yan :) We just put small amounts monthly (ngayon lang kame nag lulump-sum kase PSEI is lower than market value).

Hindi naman kailangan malaki agad ang start (for insurance or investment). You can start small, then build it up. The important thing is you START.

Also, hindi ako mahilig sa lumpsums (even my insurance, I pay monthly). A P1k monthly savings will go a long way, tapos saka ka na lang dagdag if may additional source of income na.

Hope this helps :)

Just want to give Feedback on Philequity. Ever since they migrated to the new system in September, they've been delinquent in sending receipts and notices. It took them over a week to trace/acknowledge the funds that I added, and that was only after I followed up.

With Philequity being this way, I'm appreciating COL's mutual fund source and more.

^sis medyo madami ngang issues ngayon re SOA after the migration.

E wala talaga pinadala.

Checking the performance of Fixed Income funds for 5 years and it looks like Cocolife Fixed Income Fund has higher performance kaso hindi sila included sa COL.

Hindi advisable to get MF or UITF bond funds. Hindi kumikita yung money mo.

If you want fixed income instruments, invest directly sa mga RTBs, bonds.

^Yup. I want to invest on Bond Funds so that I can put at least half of my emergency fund into it. Grabe halos walang kita kasi sa savings account :(

Not familiar with RTBs. Any idea who/which govt or banks offer this product?

BTW, I sent pm to you. :)

Hello mga sis, I am also interested to start investing in MFs. Any tips for a beginner like me. This is in addition to me starting a UITF account in BDO thru EIP.

^^ok yung RTBs, on-time crediting ng interests and on-time din balik ng principal upon maturity. If you want to dispose of it before maturity, pwede. Mabebenta mo at market value (which is usually more than the face value pa din).

@scruffs - ok ngayon mag equity MFs, sobrang baba ng market. Minimum investment is only 5k. tapos you can top-up for as little as 1k.

^if ever you can ask directly ang customer service ng Sunlife if they do accept topup and dun ka din magbabayad sa office ng Sunlife directly. Pwede yun. Ayan minsan problem sa mga agents.

^Sunlife offers mutual funds. You need to talk to a Sunlife agent to open an account. Honestly, may ibang better MFs than Sunlife -- better in terms of performance. Yung isang sikat na MF kase notorious for their not-so-good customer service.

COL is an online platform. You can buy/sell stocks, or get MFs from COL.
