After party, anyone?
« on: November 06, 2015, 01:35:10 am »
We'll have an "intimate" guestlist. Immediate family, trimmed down guest list, some friends & business partners of our parents to appease the gods and closest of the close friends. We (read: I) want to throw an after party a day or 2 after the wedding day itself which will be hubby's (by then) birthday or salubong for other friends who didn't make the cut. (I regret being overly friendly.)

Here's the thing.. Is it ok to invite friends (invited to the after party) to the ceremony? I know alot of them (after party friends) would want to see us wed. And how could we go about it kaya? Separate (informal) invitations? Just an e-vite? Has this been done before? TIA!

Hmmmm Ive attended several after-parties but normally all the guests there also attended the wedding. The purpose of the after parties are so that they get to continue partying without paying the  really steep overtime and extension fees at the hotels. So the couple books another venue where the younger ones continue to party all night till dawn.

I dont think it would be proper to invite someone to the ceremony and not invite them to the formal reception--even if you do invite them to the after party. Imagine your friend would have gotten all dressed up to attend your ceremony, only to be going home right after, knowing fully well that there is a reception that follows. kawawa naman hehe

Our after party was biglaan lang. The entourage suddenly want to continue it. Hindi pa nga kami dapat invited kasi nga alam nila we need solo time. Nakakatuwa lang kasi mostly ng ento namin hindu magkakakilala. Naging close sila because of wedding kaya naisipan mag after party. Syempre sumama kami since naisip namin di pa kami pagod, hyper pa because of successful wedding. Kaya they dropped and waited us sa hotel to change after that nagpunta kami sa bar. Naghiwa hiwalay kami 3am na nagpaplan pa nag tagaytay sana kung hindi lang ako nanghinayang sa hotel room namin nagtagaytay na kami hehe.

We're also thinking of having an after party. We will be having a lunch reception, so it would be over by around 3-4pm. And since medyo out of town yung venue (Nuvali Area), we're thinking of having an after party somewhere in Tagaytay and inviting other friends not invited to the reception to join us in the after party. But I agree that it might be awkward to invite people to the ceremony and after party, but not the reception. So in our case, my fiance was thinking of asking his best man to organize it, sila na bahala so it won't seem like we're not inviting other people to the reception. Parang casual party lang organized by friends after the wedding.

Plans palang lahat yan, and we don't know how it will go yet. :)

Hey TS, this article might help you!

http://www.brides.com/blogs/aisle-say/2015/10/can-you-invite-people-to-the-after-party-but-not-the-wedding.html?mbid=social_facebook

It basically says that, to help you decide, you should put yourself in your friends' shoes and ask yourself how you would feel if you are invited to the after-party but not the wedding.

We're having an after-party too coz fiancé, our guests and I share the same interest in alcohol :)

^ thanks, sis! Very helpful indeed! Reading it actually makes me confident that it's ok for our crowd to go to an after party or separate party.. On us of course. We're not after gifts din naman. We (read: I again) just want to have a party mostly for our org friends coz they've seen our relationship blossom but unfortunately can't invite almost all of them to our wedding.

I have a friend who had a morning ceremony, lunch with immediate family then cocktails/party during the night. I was thinking of the same thing nga but hirap to prep verrry early. So separate day nalang. (Birthday) Salubong of the hubby nalang siguro so it's not really an after wedding party haha!

Post din your plans & venues for your after parties :)

corpse_bride that would be good. At least you sort of veer away the cause of celebration so it's not just a party for your recent union, but also a party for your hubby who's celebrating his 1st birthday as a married man. ☺

We will have it at my fiancé's house which is only 10mins away from our reception venue. On the day yung sa amin. We tailored our reception program to be super short to give way to the after-party.

@TS- It's not unheard of (I believe it's more popular in foreign countries) for couples to throw  a separate celebration, either a pre-wedding reception or a post wedding celebration, for their friends and relatives whom they can't invite to the wedding due to practical reasons and limited seating options.  Most of the times, these parties are more lowkey than the actual wedding reception. The parties I've attended were either BBQ bashes, na parang backyard wedding reception ang dating, or Pub dinners. But nevertheless, the ambience were all fun and relaxed, with well wishers who  are extremely elated as they overindulge in food and drinks. Good luck ☺

^ yep low key lang naman coz of budget constraints. Like a in a bar or here sa house namin. Is it ok to show photos & videos from our day? Or no nalang?

^ yup sis corpsebride, it's okay to show your SDE's and photos and other highlights nung kasal. Matutuwa sila kasi even if they were not able to attend your wedding, makikita pa din nila mga important details and highlights that happened.  It may also be best to request your photographers not to  your post  wedding SDE's and other wedding highlights the night of your wedding or the day after.  After na lang ng post celebration nyo, that way, may element of surprise :) Good luck sis. :D

great idea for the after party.  but as mentioned already, do not invite guests just to the ceremony and not to the reception.  even if they will be invited to the after party, that's a clear sign of your having a B list.  and B, C, or D lists are fine- so long as the guests don't know which list they're on!

great suggestion from dndz(?) about having someone else spread the invitation for the after party.

I've attended after party of a friend. We weren't invited on her wedding itself sa isang beach wedding only her family and close friends.

Wala nga lang food yung inateran namin  ;D It is more on show and photobooth.

^hehe oh well. Baka not part of their budget? Hehe kami din naman budgeted but that's the last thing I wanna do, not feed the guests. Heck, I'm always hungry even at parties hehe

that's in very bad taste on the part of the couple.  what, they just expected people to come and ooh and aah over their wedding pictures and videos?  did they also expect to be given wedding gifts?  i wouldn't have attended..
