UTI While Pregnant - is really that common?
« on: August 06, 2015, 10:20:04 am »
First pregnancy - 7 weeks pregnant. My OB said I have UTI according sa urine test ko. Wala naman binigay sa akin na gamot. Just plenty of water lang naman daw. Not sure if kaya nya ako hindi binigyan ng gamot kasi hindi naman malala UTI ko or too early stage ng pregnancy ako for meds. They said UTI is common during pregnancy, but I think I has UTI na even before I got pregnant.

Anyone had UTI while pregnant? Is it really that common? :(

I had UTI also during the first tri. Common sya sa buntis. Like you, nagka-UTI na rin ako before I got pregnant and hindi rin ako binigyan ng meds for it when I had it months ago. Tubig lang din and it worked naman. Next check up ko, normal na ulit yung result. :) Hindi siguro ganon kadami yung bacteria kaya walang antibiotics. Otherwise, magppreprescribe talaga kasi pag hindi natreat ng maayos it could also lead to a kidney infection.

Ako kasi sobrang taas ng WBC at bacteria kaya niresetahan ako ng cefuroxime 3x a day for 7 days. Advise din na more water intake at iwasan ang salty foods, softdrinks and coffee.

Same here, no UTI nung single pa ko, when I got pregnant nagkaron na then naging yearly na talaga UTI ko up to 5-6 yrs

Aside from water, Buko juice or cranberry juice will help you. It will not immediately take the pain away but it helps. You need to flush out kasi yung bacteria every time you pee. Yogurt might help too

Thank you sa mga replies nyo.  :D Medyo na kalma ako hehe I heard kasi from a friend, na yung tita nya may UTI and gestational diabetes noong preggy tapos at 6 months nag labor sya dahil sa complications. I guess in severe cases nga siguro yun. Thank you again ladies :)

had UTI too on my first tri.  took zoltax for 7days, 2x a day.  after nun, okay na.  BUT i really had to ante up my water intake, to the point na clear na ang pee ko (sorry tmi).

changed my feminine wash too to Gyne Pro. yun din ang inadvise ni OB.

Same here sis, I also had UTI before and during pregnancy. I took different medicine mapa oral and suppository.

Had a UTI too from first tri up hanggang sa last trimester yata. Pero I think it's common naman, bibigyan ka nila ng meds for UTI or water lang much better pa.

I am 15 weeks pregnant naman and have UTI also. My OB said common daw talaga infection while pregnant something to do with the immune system kaya prone sa infections. Wala din antibiotics na reseta pero I was advised din to drink plenty of water. Sa follow up meron ako repeat urinalysis.

OB  advised me to drink milk in the morning and exactly 3 liters of water everyday to prevent UTI and off course regularly pee. Ayun I never had UTI sis.Thank God.

Maybe I was not listening well during my check up hahaha! Because the OB I am referring to was my OB here in SG bago ako umuwi for delivery.

^opposite naman sabi ng OB ko saken. She said na pregnancy lowers the mum's immunity especially sa first tri para hindi nya i-"attack" yung baby which is technically foreign to your body.. Kaya the chances of getting sick is always higher when you're pregnant. And kaya din they flood us with a lot of supplements to compensate for that. I personally experienced worsening of my allergic rhinitis and ang bilis ko magkaron ng cough.

Anyway, I was diagnosed with UTI also. Naka antibiotic pa din ako, last day ko today. I didn't have any symptoms at all. UTI is common daw kasi as the uterus grows big it compresses on the bladder, and adds 'kinks' to the ureter kaya yung urine hindi totally naeempty when we pee. Kaya kelangan talaga ng maraming water intake so we pee all the time hence mas napapractice natin the emptying of the bladder and of course para maflush out din the bacteria already present.

Yes, Sis Simang is correct. We have lower immune system when pregnant. I've been checking the WBC of my CBC and it is indeed slightly below average. I asked my doctor about it and she said that it's normal in pregnancy.

Kaya we are prone to infections when pregnant. My OB also recommended to avoid crowded areas to prevent catching a virus or bacteria.

During my first pregnancy I was very prone to UTI especially during the first trimester.  I had to take in antibiotics then.
On my current pregnancy, I'm glad that my urinary tests are normal.

Is UTI normally just picked up during routine urinalysis. Wala ba siya signs and symptoms that would prompt you for a test?

I had mine 3 weeks ago and it was normal. Am not sure lang if I'll have another (or before I give birth) now that I'm 30 weeks already.

Also had UTI during my first tri. nag antibiotic ako nawala naman. But at that time, i was also advised to change my feminine wash, wipes and panty liners aside from increasing water intake.

Currently have UTI. Pinainom ako ng Zoltax 2x a day.

UTI's are more common during pregnancy because of changes in the urinary tract. The uterus sits directly on top of the bladder. As the uterus grows, its increased weight can block the drainage of urine from the bladder, causing an infection.
