I told him im not comfortable with the kind of communication they have, constant.

maiandra, oo nga I saved the site and started reading ;D I note down if there are items very applicable to us. Any other blogs/sites you can recommend?

belle_v2g, I'm glad as well. I guess it happened to snap us to reality and work on our marriage harder.
To be honest, may moments pa din that I check on him saka nakakaisip ako ng what ifs. Sample eh maulan ngayon.. I'm worried about floods, traffic, at kung magpa-awa effect si girl na makisabay umuwi hmp.

So siguro we'll need some time before saying we're truly ok. Hindi kasi normal na ganito ako eh :-[ And problems like this do not get fixed overnight?

Important to be vigilant and notice the changes in our spouses, no matter how small kasi yung mga malaking bagay dun nagsisimula sa akala mo ok lang.

i've been lurking in this thread for a while na, very interesting read.

mrsbuens - that's a really nice article. sobrang na-explain niya what I want to say to my husband for years now. Ang hirap kase sabihin sa husband to have boundaries without sounding like sinasakal mo na siya.  Parang nakahanap lang ako ng kakampi sa article na hindi ako praning, that all my "demands" are not baseless. I forwarded it to him, sana lang binasa niya.

Kung group sila, I don't see anything wrong, pero hindi talaga ko comfortable na he's eating out with someone from the opposite sex. I don't care kung panget. mataba, or whatever. Pati yung mga beso. Lalo na with someone you just met (as in an events planner for a company event na you just met).

Ang nangyari naman ngayon, he doesn't tell me kung sinong kasama, or he tells half-truths about office activities. Which is more frustrating.

^ this is why important yung way ng pag communicate mo - dapat receptive sya. Kasi if not, it can worsen the situation. Lalo sya maging secretive, Lalo kang magagalit, mas lalo nya di ipapaalam sayo, and the cycle goes on, hanggang sa napa bayaan nyo na ang marriage nyo.

Kapag ganyan kasi, dapat clear sa inyo (pati sya) ano gusto nyo mangyari. If he wants to stay married, then he has to take care of the marriage. And taking care of the marriage means putting effort and work into it. Kasi Kung wala kayong gagawin (2 kayo need mag effort) and just allow status quo everyday, hayaan mo ang issues to disappear, walang mangyayari.

Pasaway nanga sya, ayaw pa Ikaw pakinggan at totally oblivious to the situation.

Papano nga ba if only 1 party makes an effort and the other one doesn't, worse, doesn't listen too.

Why not read it together?

Maybe try a different approach?
Eto din isa sa comment sa akin ng husband ko so I'm watchful about the way I interact with him now. If we talk about problems, we do it in a calm (o kaya malambing) manner. Pag napansin na galit na o raised voice, magsosorry agad. Magwowork ba sa inyo ganun?

@girltalker 2 - yun na nga yung problem, if I say it nicely he doesn't listen. He dismisses it as "arte" on my part. Kesyo he knows his boundaries etc etc. Ako kase I don't like his pushing boundaries, sabi ko nga,  ako, I stay a mile away from the boundary. Wala namang sense to dance around the boundaries and risk your marriage dba?

Kaya nga sakto yung article that says you cannot be complacent and be arrogant na you will not be tempted ever!

@j.adore - naku sis we just had an episode, so ayaw ko muna ng another drama so hindi ko na pinilit na basahin nya. Basta I forwarded it to him. I try to talk to him nicely, everytime.

Ok naman kame ngayon, I can see some effort. Pero hindi maalis yung magquestion ako. Like may nakifavor na bilhin yng shoes na nakuha nya (limited release kase). I asked sino, sabi lang for the Tito ng officemate nya. This officemate is a girl na kilala ko, so weird lang that he has to refer to her as officemate and hindi sabihin yung name.

graZiousa, ewan ko ba I don't see any reason to reach out again unless super duper close talaga sila noon na BFF level.

Kaya din I decided to trust my husband again. It's hard but I'm trying my best. Because he leaves all of his gadgets and accounts ever since to show he has nothing to hide.
Though isa sa mga naisip ko eh, "be careful what you look for" pero tama nga talaga ang gut feel.

Always listen to intuition.

And sometimes, mas ok na rin when you make a move as early as you can.. the moment na mafeel mo na " parang there is something going on" if it only means protecting your marriage, wala akong nakikitang masama doon. For me you are just doing the right thing sis j.adore.. lalo na bagong kasal pa lang kayo. I admire your husband though, for being honest.

j.adore - sis nag agree ba si hubby mo sa boundaries as listed in the article? kase baka lang others might find it "too limiting". iniisip ko lang kung sadyang friendly si hubby and lumalabas naman sinasakal ko na siya if I impose such limits. di ba parang ang toxic naman namen sa isa't-isa.

Dati kase pag galit ako sa kanya, I just want us to work it out. Ngayon parang, hindi na ko sure what I want.

I believe limits should never be imposed to your partner. If he finds it too stifling, di pa dapat sya mag asawa because that means, he is not ready nor capable of taking care of his marriage/relationship with the spouse.

belle_v2g, thanks :-* Yes, he is a great person naman and he loves me more than anything.

jenny_syngkit, he does think that way but he understands why it's necessary. I was explaining to him little by little kung bakit ganito ang dapat gawin around persons of the opposite sex.

I found out only recently that my husband pala opened up to his married close friend (one of his best men) about my issues. Apparently his friend sided with me. He got my point naman but i think his friend validating my points helped.  I trust this friend and i dont mind that my husband opened up to him.

Hay thank God for good friends.

So true!

This is exactly why I think marital problems should be shared with those closest to the couple. They have the couple's best interest at heart and can really help if need be. It's also important that the spouse trusts the friend.

I still get upset when I remember that my husband had shared my issues with the girl. Didn't help much naman and we even argued. But that's that. He was honest and is steering clear from her. Lesson learned and moving on..

I've shared my thoughts to my husband. He shared naman how he's addressing things and it calmed me. I just need time I guess but we'll get there..

^sisses!!! nakakatuwa naman nakarelate tayo dun sa article...happy to have shared it with everyone!

Early last year I had an issue with my husband. First time we had an issue like this in almost, at that time, 7 yrs of marriage. He went out for drinks with an old friend (pre-us) he hasn't seen for 8yrs or so. All along I thought he was out with office colleagues (well, he was with them after meeting up with the girl). Only discovered about it when I saw an incoming sms from the girl while he was in the shower (what irked me too was that they were exchanging sms the minute he woke up that morning). I'm not the type who tinkers with my husband's phone, but for some reason I felt I should check the message. That's where I discovered he met up with her the night before (like what I said, he didn't mention that to me). They were planning too an out of town trip, on a weekday pa. Naturally, high with emotions, that started a heated discussion with him. To be fair, on his part, he thinks it was all platonic. The girl was in town from abroad and wanted to touch base with him and her old friends. I told him "touching base with someone, specially someone who is married" is a coffee in Starbucks and not over drinks at a posh bar. He wouldn't like it either if I go out alone with a guy friend for drinks. The trip daw they were planning, though not explicitly mentioned in sms exchange, was supposed to be with their other friends. Tipo bang reliving the gold old days of their barkada. Sabi ko, their friends will take a leave from work to go out of town? He even said I can even come along if I want to (natawa ako kasi he's well aware that I'm tied up on weekdays driving our kids to and from school). I was so mad at him for not thinking what I'll feel but madder at the girl for trying to be too close to my husband. The tone of the girl's messgaes akala mo walang asawa yung kausap niya. I even told my husband, when I was single, I always make sure not to be too close with married/attached colleagues and friends. Kasi even though on my part is all innocent and all, the spouse/significant other may think otherwise.

Anyway, after words were exchanged and a lot of crying from me, we came into an agreement: No extra close relationship with the opposite sex. Not because one party is the jealous type, but because we want to protect our marriage. That incident was an eye-opener for both of us. We trust each other too much that we have never thought of putting boundaries with our outside relationship. Tipo bang "my spouse wouldn't cheat on me" and "I'm not the type who will cheat on my spouse". Then, we were placed in that situation that makes one party question the other's fidelity, we were caught off guard. We realized marriage is always a work in a progress.

Sharing below an article I saved before (sorry, I couldn't find anymore the exact link to this). What's written in here echoes the same message I told my husband. The very reason I'm making what he thought was an "innocent" meetup such a big issue:

Affair Prevention: What are Appropriate Boundaries for Marriage? How will YOU safeguard YOURSELF from Affairs?
Question:

What do you think the boundaries need to be in a marriage in re: to the opposite sex?  Should they have friendships with the opposite sex? And if so, what kind? My husband and I were out shopping the other day and we ran into a woman that we have both met a couple of times.  Her husband and mine golf together sometimes.  Her husband has had back surgery and can't golf. She mentioned that she would like to golf. So, my husband said he goes early if she ever wanted to join him.  I know he was being friendly and truthfully it didn't bother me but later I felt like we needed to discuss it. I brought it up and asked if he thought it was o.k. to golf alone with someone and he blew up and told me that I was acting jealous … He thinks I'm being ridiculous. I told him we needed to discuss what's appropriate and what's not. He told me that's stupid and I must not trust him.

Answer:

Couples need to be realistically aware of the fact that our marriages are all vulnerable to affairs. The moment we start thinking it can’t happen to us; that very thinking makes us vulnerable. As someone so aptly pointed out at a recent seminar, sometimes after an affair, a spouse makes the mistake of assuming that now that it’s happened to them once, they’ve learned their lesson and so it can’t happen to them again, and voila! They become more vulnerable again, because they are thinking: IT CAN’T HAPPEN TO ME.

The safest boundary to maintain concerning relationships with members of the opposite sex is to avoid one on one contact. No one on one lunches or dinners, many couples even choose to avoid situations where you are driving alone in a vehicle with a member of the opposite sex, or being in a situation where you are alone at home with someone (like when your male neighbor, the computer wiz, is coming over to fix your computer at a time when only the wife is home). These scenarios can always be made to happen when both spouses are home, or at least children are present.

At the same time I’m not suggesting legalism is the answer for marriages. Sometimes a business lunch with a member of the opposite sex can be appropriate, if you and your spouse both agree. I would suggest phoning your spouse first, so the lunch is not a secret. We also need to realize that discussing problems about our marriage with a coworker is inappropriate, as is listening to problems. My husband’s affair began when a female coworker confided in Brian the problems she was having in her marriage. This is a common pattern that leads to affairs.

Going golfing one on one with a member of the opposite sex is asking for trouble.  I would not be okay with Brian golfing with another woman, and he would not be okay with me golfing with another man. There would be no reason in the world that you could not join your husband on this golf outing with another woman.

A “friendship” with a member of the opposite sex that excludes the spouse is inappropriate in marriage. Why must your spouse be excluded from the relationship? I enjoy friendships with many men, and Brian enjoys friendships with many women, but we do so as a couple or as couples if that person is also married. We don’t exclude each other.

Of course Brian and I had such a boundary in place before Brian’s affair, so we have learned not to rely on “rules” to protect our marriage. When someone is truly tempted by an affair, a rule is not going to keep them from having one, obviously, because there is also the other “rule,” pledging our love EXCLUSIVELY to each other when we exchange our wedding vows, and that “rule” is not enough to protect any marriage from the subtleties that can lead spouses away from the moral standards they have set for themselves.

But this doesn’t mean we should throw the rules away. Maintaining safe boundaries when interacting with members of the opposite sex is wise. In order to truly safeguard our marriages from affairs, we need to add more wisdom, knowledge and understanding to our boundaries.

Another point that needs to be made is that of being aware of “other person influence.” Your husband’s motives may be pure enough, but there are no guarantees the other person’s motives are (although they will always claim they are). The influences that can “PULL” us into an affair are very subtle. If they were obvious, moral people would not get caught up in affairs. We need to quit being naïve.

Brian and I are not naïve about the fact that another affair could happen in our marriage. Just because we teach affair-prevention does not make our own marriage immune. So we watch out for each other. We respect each other, and we actively keep our guard in place.

One thing we have learned is that I will notice when a woman is coming on to Brian before he does and vice versa. We have therefore made an agreement in our marriage, that if either one of us feels uncomfortable with our spouse’s contact with a specific member of the opposite sex, we say so, and respect each other's wishes, regardless of whether or not we feel our partner is overreacting, being too possessive, or too jealous. (This type of unchallenged respect in itself communicates a huge message of trust and love to our spouse.)

On one occasion when Brian and I were attending a large seminar, during a break I was involved in a discussion with several people, including one man who seemed particularly interested in my work. I was, of course, enjoying his interest.

When Brian had the opportunity to talk with me privately, he told me to stay away from this man because he was “coming on” to me. I thought Brian was being paranoid. “He’s just really interested in my book,” I said, frustrated. After considerable discussion, I decided to honor Brian’s wishes in spite of the fact that I didn’t agree. Contact with this man was not worth upsetting Brian.

So during the next break, out of 200 people or so, this particular man had made his way over to me again. After a couple of minutes, I politely excused myself, walked across the room and engaged some new people in conversation. Within minutes the man Brian was concerned about had followed me. Again, I excused myself and moved on. This situation repeated itself on an ongoing basis throughout the weekend, leading me to believe that Brian’s initial observation had been correct. This man had indeed been “coming on” to me, and I had been intrigued and flattered by his interest in ME,  and not as I was trying to convince myself, his interest in my work.

The lesson we learned is that I will recognize when a woman’s motives towards my husband are inappropriate before he does and vice versa. By respecting each other when one of us asks the other to be on guard around a certain person (and even to avoid them), we protect our marriage and ourselves.

Ultimately, each couple must discuss and agree for themselves what boundaries are appropriate for their marriage.

How will YOU safeguard YOURSELF from affairs? If you’re relying on willpower alone, (or the belief that because your spouse is so wonderful, you will never in a lifetime be attracted to anyone else), we believe you are sorely mistaken. You must be wise, knowledgeable and on guard.

Those of us who’ve “been there” (on any side of the affair triangle) know that any fleeting pleasure that may come from an affair is short lived at best and leads to a “hell on earth” that is simply not worth it.

mrsBuens, my husband is back in FB today.
Right now I don't feel like checking but I can't say I won't again kasi gets ko yung feeling na gusto magcheck just in case. Pero on a normal basis hindi ako ganito.
Though even before, he doesn't restrict me to do this and doesn't have any issues kung tinitignan ko. Siya din may access sa accounts ko. I dunno if he looks though ::)

hunny_ally, googled it and here's the link http://www.beyondaffairs.com/2013-archives/affair-prevention-appropriate-boundaries-marriage-will-safeguard-affairs/

in my case sis, even with a male colleague, i wouldn't want hubby again to be super close na talaga like "tell all" sa problems namin. most especially, about me. what happened? this male colleague sided with his kab##tch and called me "paranoid" kahit totoo namang nagka affair sila. i envy you sis for having a husband like him with the taking down notes pa! natuwa ako. save your marriage as early as now. tama yan. kasi now sobrang lungkot ko na sa husband ko. like i really wanted to get out of the marriage kahit na ano pang effort gawin nya, wala na. stay for the kids na lang.

Thanks! I'm glad somehow natuwa ka sa story namin. Looking at the bright side, minsan naisip ko it happened to snap us back to reality na napapabayaan namin yung marriage this early?

Nakikita mo ba all out effort si hubby mo? At reformed na ba siya? O baka may kulang pa kaya hindi pa nagwowork yung ginagawa niya to win you back?
I guess time will tell if you're still staying for the kids, baka may chance pa? :-\ I hope you'll find happiness too..

BTW, ok yung beyondaffairs website I saw some articles for guidance on post-affair.

True. That's why while single pa, it is important to find a partner that is sensitive, romantic and attentive sayo, Hindi yung sarili lang nya iniisip at bahala ka mag adjust.
