^tnx sis! 😃 this is what i dont like about summer, bukod sa maalinsangan, ito yung panahon na nababagabag ang pag-iisip ko pag moving-up/recognition days na hehe.. 😊

^I also do not like that among Filipinos eh. Yung pagalingan ng anak. Haha. Here in Canada, kahit sports, hindi nag-sscore sa mga bata kasi they don't want to foster a competitive environment. Tamang laro lang ang focusing on learning the sport itself. Eh mga Filipino, binibilang talaga na-score ng anak nila and nakikipaglaban pa sa playing time eh hello ang babata pa ng mga iyan, masyado pine-pressure.

^Kasi hindi naman talaga to score and to get good grades ang batayan ng success. Mahilig manood but don't want to be involved in it because he said he's gonna suck at it anyway. But the parents told me that it's not about scoring. It also teaches daw camaraderie with other people so it strengthen your social skills, teaches you self-control and to follow rules.  Eh ako ang katwiran ko naman is that he can't be good in everything. He is doing well academically. Not the best but well.

So sa mga moms na nai-stress about their kids getting excellent grades, there's more to it than medals. Besides, we might be putting too much pressure on then as well. Chill lang!

Naalala ko tuloy decades ago. Hindi pa masyadong uso ang social media, kaya if filipinos want to flaunt their child's achievement, papagawan ng tarp.

Same sa social media, you deserve recognition kasi pinaghirapan nyo. But then, I don't think kailangan pa i-display sa plaza or sa kanto yung tarp. Most people don't care anyway kaya wag na lang i-public.

Ay speaking of tarp. Kaso di man lang nagamit pinag-aralan niya kasi nagbuntis agad and nag-asawa. So yun ginawa nalang tolda, panlaban sa init at ulan yung tarp ngayon.

😅)I immediately learned to value what my child has achieved.itong mga achievement nya na to ay nakuha nya nang hindi sya pinupwersa o napipilitan.

Bata pa lang stress na kasi pressure by their parents.

different kids, different abilities,  huwag mag-expect kung hindi naman naturally born with higher intelligence or better athletic coordination.   pero if you've seen that your child has the ability to excel,  then the child is accountable for showing that he did his best by the grades he get or recognition in sports.  the level of expectation should be directly proportional to the natural capability to excel.   i can only use my two kids as an example.  both were A students consistently and I test them myself for me to get an idea that they really know stuff.  so one of them got a C in one subject so I asked what happened, I wasn't mad or anything to be honest,  she said she didn't study hard enough she wanted to just watch TV and you can see from her expression that she was guilty of something which is laziness,  maybe she's trying to prove to herself that she can get by without studying.  so we had a talk about that,  it's really me re-iterating that we always try to do our best in anything we do,  not just school and sports but everything in our daily lives,  if our best is a C then it's ok too.  so i've emphasized accountability to them at an early age.  the same with my son who played team sports growing up (basketball and baseball).  he's born well coordinated so excelling in sports is easy for him.  he knows what he's capable of and that's what he strives to deliver all the time.  again, there are instances when mediocrity is not acceptable for some people,  we all have to challenge ourselves to our full potential.  the only thing us parents can do is to support them in everything that interests them.  we are not aspiring to have a scholar nor an athlete from our kids,  in the process we are helping them build character, because character is that defines us, in my opinion.
also parents should not expect so much more from their children if they themselves weren't able to accomplish the same feat.  and i'm not talking about things related with money/wealth/earning potential,  i'm talking about when parents were just average students and they expect their kids to be honor students.  or when a parent is  just a so so player but they expect their kid to be the next michael jordan.  i've seen a lot of this kind of parents over the years.

not a parent but i read somewhere before that it's more beneficial for parents to teach their children about the value of hard work instead of intelligence. like instead of saying, "oh you got good grades, you're really smart!" parents should praise instead the hard work that went into it. there has to be an emphasis on effort because that's character building as well. children should learn that be everything can be learned and that it is only by repetition and constant practice that you really get good at something. emphasis on "natural intelligence" just makes the "naturally intelligent" slack off.

if you think about it, the most successful people are not necessarily the ones who did so well in school. i'm not saying that grades are not important but people who excel in school generally do not do better in life. the most important thing is that willingness to hustle and sacrifice and continuously learn. something that grades don't necessarily reflect.

anyway, back to the topic: ugaling Pinoy na hindi ko gusto-- i would say i really hate that Filipinos are so sensitive when it comes to opinions by other people especially foreigners. like that whole claire danes nonsense back in the 90s. hindi mo puwedeng sabihan ng totoo because they get overly defensive.  it's hard to be straight with a Pinoy because we don't take criticisms too well.

Yeah the chismosa and judgmental ugali ng pinoys... it might not be so obvious in the Philippines but here in the US it's quite obvious and glaring.

on the tarp thing -- shookt, laughed, annoyed and feelings of incredulity for me! I remember when I grew up in the Philippines, I used to often see "Projects care of Politician Tarps" which are in very bad taste. They are funded by taxpayers money  (the projects and the tarp) and the tarps are deliberate campaign ads. Same with tarps of congratulating children and the pressure or praises from parents... i find they can possibly deliver the wrong message to children: could breed poor emotional and social skills as children are praised for achievements, not skills. Breeds high ego, poor emotional abilities to cope with both success (humility) and failures (endurance). Not a parent (yet) but this is my observation in general... it's just overall in bad taste.
