this came from my lola, sabi niya sa tita ko na kung nahihirapan daw sa trabaho magquit na, di daw kasi tama at maganda yun. i was like wtffffff. di porket nahirapan ka eh magquit ka na duuh. i just shut my mouth na lang, lola ko yun. but for me, it doesnt matter how rich or poor you are, you dont just give up dahil mahirap. naloka ako sa lola ko. jinudge ko siya tuloy secretly. lol.

So just based on some posts that I've seen around here:

Homophobia -- Case in point, someone had said, complete with a conscience clearing preface, most gays probably have AIDS.  In this day and age, we still have people who think like they did back when AIDS first came about. Ryan White and the discrimination he went through, anyone? And then I saw some random comment about how because someone is a "tomboy" (I'd assume she meant lesbian) then she notices everything. I mean, I guess that's a good thing? Lesbians have astute observations!

Sexism -- This one is interestingly two-prong and actually done by women on themselves. First, women continue to stay with philandering and/or overly-jealous men. Then, women maintain that they have to know the "secrets" to be a "fascinating" partner. This literature was written back when women were taught to be submissive and not to think for themselves. And yet here they all are lapping all that up. Just further reinforcing the passive attitude that Filipino women tend to have.

After one year of working here sa UAE, this is what I observed with my Expat colleagues - all work related

- seniority complex. yung ibang pinoy boss nasa supervisor level pa lang hanep na mag power trip. Yung mga boss dito (director level), they encourage us to call them by their first name, I still call my bosses (GM and asst GM) "Sir", hindi kasi talaga ako sanay

- politics sa work, halos lahat yata nag napagtrabahuhan ko sa Pinas meron nyan. dito wala pa ako naexperience

- we are not straightforward. Here, you can speak your mind about work and not worry that they will take it against you or pasikat ka etc

I super agree. Dito sa Pinas if you speak your mind "kups" ka na, sipsip or pabibo.

pinoy's with mixed blood that looked down on fellow filipinos. twice na ako nakameet ng ganyan. i met a pinay mixed with foreign blood, born and raised in the philippines ha but she made fun of chinese, korean, etc looking filipinos. girl is too proud of how she looks and thinks she's above the average-looking filipinos because she is mixed with something. and to think she's not even pretty lol. filipinos are not the only ones obsessed with white supremacy but still, this is a very annoying and sickening attitude.

Hate na hate ko iyong mindset na pag maputi ka, maganda ka kaagad. Pag maputi ka, malinis ka tignan. Mayaman at kutis artista pa daw (ganyan dati ang line ng maxipeel. Nakaka-asar lang!). So pag morena o maitim, dugyot agad? Mahirap agad?

Kaya ang daming obssessed ngayon sa pagpapaputi. Paano ka nga ba naman magiging confident sa dark skin mo kung karamihan sa mga pinoy lalo na mga lalaki iniisip na pag maputi, maganda agad?

JUSMIYO! I have a blockmate who is half-British (but was born and raised in PH), but hell nakaka-umay naman ang hitsura niya. Some people will tell her she's pretty--yeah, pretty sa una ngunit kapag titigan, waley. Typical puti lang siya kapag ilagay siya sa Britanya--or the rest of Europe. And please, I'm not even ampalaya here, ah.

Agree! In fact, mas attracted ako sa mga East Asians. I have been to the States, Canada, and Australia, and I met a lot of Western expats--but sorry, I am more attracted to East Asians talaga (LOL).
