Keeping a payroll account for personal use
« on: May 23, 2015, 08:37:54 am »
I have this payroll account from a past employer. Like other payroll accounts, walang maintaining balance ito.

I resigned from this past employer, but they did not ask me to close the account. I got past their clearances without surrendering my ATM card.

Can I still use the account as my own personal savings?

What if I have hundreds or thousands of cash in that account?

FYI, that payroll account was opened with BDO.

^^ i have two atms that were previously payroll accounts - BDO (left the company 7 years ago) and BPI (left the company almost 6 years ago). Wala naman naging problem kasi personal accounts naman yun e. My BDO account though was converted to a regular account (from payroll) nung wala na pumapasok na sweldo, so me minimum maintaining balance na daw.

^ yung sa BDO, nalaman ko when i went to the branch to change account name to my married name. Siguro when they checked my account history, they noticed na wala na pumapasok na payroll. Not sure exactly.

Yung sa bpi, i'm not sure kung regular account na sya. So far kasi di naman super bumababa laman ng account so di ko lang din iniisip yung maintaining. Importante is nagagamit ko pa din yung account.

In both my previous employers, i never had to surrender my atm card though.

^ Thanks!

I guess I'll declare a lost ATM card na lang doon sa isang account para may access ako.

^ you can always open a new account naman sa banks. But the accounts you have from past employers are yours. I think that's unlawful.

Pero tama sabi nila, you would need na a maintaining balance if hindi na sya payroll account. Unlike pag payroll, kahit zero balance, walang charge.

hi sis, check mo din kase some banks have system which can detect if account is still used for payroll e.g. 2x a month credits or they are enrolled in a payroll system. either way pag nalaman, automatically icoconvert yun account into regular account. hth.

Well one company did.

Another company also had me go to the bank to properly close the payroll account naman.

HI! My BPI ATM card from my previous employer was converted into a regular account. How did I know? So, di ko na lang ginamit, anyway I have a separate passbook and a new payroll account sa BPI.
