si hubby lang may account before we got married, lahat ng money namen nasa account lang nya (coz I had no government ID then). but ako may hawak ng atm and passbook. after we got married, we turned his account into joint.

Nice thread. We barely have 5-digit savings now. :( Ginamit kasi namin yung naipon naming pera pang-down sa property na binili namin.

I like the "living on one income." Hope I could do it in the near future. :)

We opened a joint checking account during the wedding preps pa lang so we can issue payments to our suppliers via check. This is also in anticipation of checks that we might receive as gifts (na nakapangalan sa aming dalawa). It's easy naman to update my status and name kasi the bank honored the marriage certificate (yung copy namin from church) and we were able to deposit these wedding checks na to our joint CA. Nag-request na lang yung teller that I submit a photocopy of a goverment ID bearing my married name once nagkaroon na ako.

As for our financial setup, this is what we agreed upon:

Hubby's salary;
10%: Tithes
10%: Personal Savings nya (whatever he wants to do with it)
80%: Household expenses including my monthly allowance and personal shopping :)

My salary:
10%: Tithes
10%: Personal Savings ko
10%: Family contribution ko (relatively well off kasi family ni hubby and then unico ijo pa kaya di na siya nag-allot for this from his salary). His parents prepared well din for their retirement age. Sabi ni hubby, kung magbibigay siya sa parents nya (monetary), it will come from his personal savings na. If we have to give them gifts (bday, anniv), it will come from our "expenses fund".
20%: Investments
50%: Savings

We have two joint checking accounts (savings and household expenses) and a personal savings account each.

We make sure that we save a minimum of 10% of our Net Income every month.

We do the Envelope Menthod, each of us have an emergency fund and  may amount talaga na dapat yun ang laman niya.

We also have investments (Variable, Mutual FUnds, Financing, etc)

We don't have joint accounts since we don't really need it. And open naman kami sa isat isa. So if meron siyang investment, meron dun ako. Something like than. And pera ko, pera din niya and vice versa. :)

after namin mabayaran yung car, bale house mortgage na lang magiging liability namin, so saka kami magstart ng emergency fund and at the same time, magstart na kami sa mutual funds and uitf for our future children's education and for our retirement. meron naman din kami VUL pareho. my husband even has 2. so insured naman na kami. siguro baka itaas ko yung premium coverage ko kapag nakabuild na kami ng emergency fund namin.

I would say my fiance and I are both financially secure, we can support ourselves without sacrificing much wants, like shopping, eating out often and travelling.. never ako nagtrack ng expenses actually, which is a very bad habit of mine.  :-\ Admittedly we havent talked about our financial setup after marriage, if we're going to have a joint account or whose salary goes into payments and stuff. We already have a home to live in, and cars to use to go to work, and without a kid yet, i think our main expense driver is going to be our day to day expenses only (association dues, food, etc).

We're going to be shouldering 80% of our wedding expenses (50-50), so after paying off the wedding with liquid cash, all my assets remaining will have been invested already. Tas ipon nalang ulit ako for our day to day expenses, emergency fund and savings. Medyo same income bracket lang kami ng fiance ko, he is slightly ahead since boss na sya ako manager lang but my company is bigger. We're going to look into launching a business together to magnify our earnings. Wondering now what the best setup will be-- transfer ko nalang sa kanya salary ko or joint account nga. Gusto ko rin yang allowance setup although it would feel weird hehe.

Both of us are full time employees. My salary is higher but hubby, aside from his job, has his own computer business and ongoing job parin based in Philippines. We have a joint account, separate savings account for different things, holidays, first home, savings for our son, etc. we've divided bills appropriately too. Mas malakas nga lang akong mag ipon sa kanya haha! I have a separate bank account with 2 savings account connected to it na walang nakakaalam. The regular bank i am with, may access si hubby sa PIN so nakikita nya savings ko, at yun lang alam nya. Our son too has a separate bank account. Aside from that, we have superannuations so secured na rin retirement namin.

We are currently saving for our first home so super tipid coz this will cost us a lot. So lahat ng means na makatipid/maka save ginagawa namin.

i am not newly married but new to savings and investments!

kame 1 account lang talaga. ok ba if different ang accounts?

business kasi kame ni hubby (wedding planner ako, kasama sya. haha)

kakastart pa lang namin sa investment at insurance. basta alam ko lang pag may money na, deposit na sa account under my name (matagal na din kasi itong acct ko na 'to). tapos if may need, online payment ng bills or withdraw. eeeeek! walang savings ano?

so anong dapat? magbukas ng isa pang acct for savings?

dapat may ibang account para savings kasi dapat hindi ito basta nata touch. pag naka-commingle lahat ng money in one account, ang tendency talaga ay gumastos ng mas malaki.gawa ka ng other account for the savings tapos pwedeng may auto-transfer, like BPI Save-Up

Better if you have different accounts for different purposes. There's no limit sa bank I have about 3 of each and can still make new ones lol.

sis ayieloveszavi, question din sakin to. kase in here (i reside overseas) i have a bank account with 5 sub accounts under it. i rename each account lang like savings for baby #1, baby#2, emergency funds, holiday funds, lifetime savings etc.  puro online ang transactions ko, direct debit yung payments namin for bills kaya easier ang pag manage. not sure if they have that in pinas.

Newly wed din kami ni hubby. Same as with other sisses, nag open din kami ng joint account after the wedding - isang peso account and isang dollar account. Maiden name pa ang ginamit ko since the bank required me to present NSO certified marriage cert which i dont have yet. Tapos we retained our personal savings account.

What we do is pinagsasama din namin our monthly income then gumagawa ako ng financial report which i share to him. Its something na nakasanayan ko na since single pa ako. I like to keep track kasi where my money goes into tsaka para alam ko din which ones im spending on a little too much. Hehe

Our money goes into savings, investments, expenses and travel funds (since we like to travel). Nagtatabi din kami for our personal allowances which we can spend anyway we like (saved into our personal accounts or pang shopping. Hehe). Im also thinking of opening a new account for emergency family fund. Para pag may nangailangan ng tulong either side, may nakaready na. Just recently, nagstart din kami mag alkansya for P5 and P10 coins. Haha

Keep posting mga sis. Baka may makuha pa ako tips. 😊

Question lang mga sis, do you keep your bank accts at 500,000 max lang? Kasi di ba the maximum deposit insurance coverage per depositor ng PDIC is 500,000 lang? Esp to those with several accts in one bank lang?  what if something happens sa bank? Naexperience na kasi ng family ko to, nabankrupt yung bank, although it was just a rural bank in the province kaya di talaga stable...kaya medyo worried ako sa ganito..

^iba naman tong nabasa ko recently not about a bank closing but i read somewhere na kapag namatay daw yung owner half lang ang makukuha ex. 1M 500k nalang because of taxes. medyo napapaisip kami ng husband ko lalo nung nabasa ko yung sinabi mo about a bank closing. siguro hatiin namin savings namin in different bank na 500k lang ang max.then the others investment.
