The COL Fund Source was very much anticipated because they managed to remove sales loads. The one I invest in, which is Philequity, had a sales load before of 3.5%. 35 pesos was deducted from every 1,000 I invest. With the sales load removed in the COL Fund Supermarket, my 1,000 is now invested entirely. Fan-freakin-tastic.

On top of that, the holding periods were reduced from 2 years to just 90 days. The minimum investment and additional top-ups were also reduced.

What I don't know is if Philequity decided on these changes themselves, or if they were pressured to do so because of the threat of losing clients to COL.

Another advantage of investing through the COL Fund Source is you only have to open one single account, then you have pickings from a wide array of funds. No need to separately open accounts with ATR Kim Eng, Philequity, Sun Life, ALFM, and etc.

^Holding period -- the time when you are charged a set percentage in fees if you withdraw your investment too early. You have to "hold" your money in that investment until after that period of time if you want to be able to withdraw without any charges.

Minimum investment and additional investment varies among funds. But on average, the initial investment is between 5-10k, while the additional is between 1-5k.

Sis aNgelofThEMorning,

So dividends ang naiisip kong reason. I checked my ledgers pero hindi pa updated

so next stop is to find out which company gave out dividends

ang nakuha kong sagot ay CEB. I got the schedule from the PSE Edge site

here's the link: http://edge.pse.com.ph/disclosureData/dividends_and_rights_info_form.do

Nag give out ng dividends ang CEB kahapon, Aug 11

PSE Edge site is public

ang rule pa nga is before anything becomes news, nasa PSE Edge na  dapat, as per PSE

I have extra money kasi to invest. I won't be needing it in more than 10 years. I don't have time to monitor the market so managed fund would work for me.

What do you guys think?

^^Go with the fund provider you're comfortable with, that's most convenient for you to invest in, and whose user interface is easy for you to navigate. (I'm assuming you're just picking among the same type of fund, i.e. equity)

Investing in COL's fund supermarket is fantastic. You get to pick from a wide range of funds from different companies, plus COL provides you with easy-to-use tables of the funds' performances and general features. The fund portfolio is separate from the stock portfolio, so it's not confusing. COL is also usually people's investing platform, so doing the buy-and-hold strategy is easier for long-term investors. What I mean by that is you can choose not to log-in and look at your portfolio if you really want to buy and forget. :)

BPI is also good; BPIExpressOnline is miles ahead of its competitors when it comes to making it easy for clients to invest and do regular additional investments. Also, unlike other banks, BPI allows partial redemptions. What I don't like about BPI is that because it's the bank account I use all the time, I also log-in to my accounts all the time. So I see my funds' performance all the time too. Not good if you want to buy-and-forget your investment and hold it for yearsssss. It's easier to forget something if you don't see it.

In addition to that, I don't like BPI funds' historical performance. Mas-kampante pa ako sa BDO and Metrobank.

^ may point ka sis. I'll take those into account. Ty!  :)
When it comes naman sa charges, alin kaya mas oks?

I checked the philequity dividend yield fund kay col and saw that the mgt fee is 1.5%. Does that mean, in the end, mas konti deduction sa earnings kay col as compared kay bpi?

This is going to be long-term investment kasi kaya i want to be sure sana before ko pasukin.

^Fee-wise, they are the same.

It is not true that mutual funds have a tax advantage over UITFs. In both types, taxes are calculated in the NAV, so the earnings you get when you redeem are already net of taxes.
