Priest for Wedding
« on: February 18, 2015, 11:59:48 pm »
Hi Sisses,

There's a topic like this before but it can't be accessed anymore so I'm starting a new one. I'm getting married at Chapel on the Hill Tagaytay this year. I've read a horror story of a COTH priest who started the wedding without the bride because she was late (see worst wedding thread). Of course I will try not to be late in my own wedding, but in the event that that happens, I wouldn't want the ceremony to start without me. And because I don't want to take a chance of getting that priest (name was not disclosed), I'd like to invite our own priest or request for a specific priest for our wedding. I've read about Fr. Allen of Caleruega. Any other recommendations? Kahit na Manila based priest, ayos lang.

^Hi crammer planner! I'm getting married in Tagaytay as well and although it isn't a mandatory for me to bring in my own priest, we just agreed it would be a nice-to-have if we could get Fr. Jerry Orbos to officiate our wedding. I'm sure he would be inspiring and definitely not boring. :)

He already agreed last month and scheduled us in for a personal interview with him on May. I am half-nervous and half-excited (I'm not too religious) :p I've never met him, but my fiance's family is close to him having done pilgrimages to Israel together and seeing each other in (live) TV masses.
I'll be providing him a room for 2 nights, food allowance, and probably any transpo he will need to get to the wedding, so I set aside 10k for these plus the gift / donation not sure what you call it. Maybe i'll ask him as well on our meeting in May what else he requires. I'm not too sure how couples do it (asking permission for a priest to officiate) since it was fiance's mom who did it for us, but maybe you can check him out too. :)

Thanks sis sparkingjewel for your suggestion! You're lucky that your fiance's family is close to him. I'm sure it'll be harder for me but I will try. Although I have to take into account the additional 10K +++ in our budget first.  :)

^No problem sis. Pero yup, dagdag gastos talaga considering he will also be a guest at the reception and the rooms and transpo. Baka nga hindi pala 10k lang in additional expenses. Haha! And we also want to give him more kasi syempre we know he's more big-time, he could be doing so many other things that day than officiating our wedding :p

Hi sis Crammer Planner! I highly recommend Fr. Orbos! His homily is really meaningful and not boring at all. But I think you have to book him early because he gets booked fast. HTH :)

Hi Sis Crammer Planner! We're having Fr. Arvin Paz as our officiating priest. one of the priests siya from Don Bosco Batulao, kung nasan ang Chapel on the Hill. Maybe you can ask them to officiate your wedding. :) We met him last month and gusto niya ma-meet muna ang couple bago kasal. Bait niya, and I don't think siya yung nag-start ng wedding without the bride. hahaha..

Kaya natuwa kami sobra. :)

Hi mga sissies, i up ko lang tong topic na to since we're also looking for a priest to officiate our wedding next year. gusto kasi namin yung nag aallow ng perosnal vows eh. Si Fr. Orbos ba allows it? and kung irerequest namin sya to be our officiating priest, okay lang ba sa kanya kung QC area and may fee ba?

also, baka may marecommend pa kayong ibang priest na okay mag homily na nag aallow din ng personal vows.

Thank you so much sissies! :)

^marchbridetobe si Fr. Orbos more of complies to the rules of the church, so if your church allows personal vows then it should not be a problem. I met him na he wasn't strict samin with the interviews and processes at all or i dunno if it's because he really knew my fiance and his family for so long na.

I am not too sure about his "Fee", i am pretty sure other brides give him a substantial amount and shoulder his food, room and expenses and we are planning to do the same. Syempre kakahiya naman hinde. Batangas-based sya now, and Tagaytay based na sya soon so you will likely have to shoulder his transpo, food, and potentially room nya sa QC.

Hi mga sis. We'll be bringing our own priest to officiate  our church wedding next year in San Antonio de Padua. My question is do you know how much is the standard rate of the priest's stipend? I have to mention that he is also my husband's uncle. We just want to have a ballpark figure so we can increase  a bit.

^Lapit na wedding ko and i also still dont know the answer to this. I allotted 10k so far but we plan to add some gifts like wine. And then also shoulder his transpo and food.

Second question, anyone here getting Fr. Gerry/ Jerry Orbos to officiate also? G ba talaga or J yung nickname nya? Naddyahe ako to ask him! Hehe references to him online are mixed...

how does the "fee" for priests go about ba? sorry I have no idea talaga. Is this just a donation or there's a specific set amount? I'm thinking of getting Fr. Allen. TIA!

I'm planning to get my own priest din sa wedding ko. Nung nagpa block kasi kami ng wedding date sa church namin, sakto may wedding. Yung priest mega sermon about the attire of the ninangs and the entourage after the march. I know it's a sacred place pero in my opinion hindi naman too revealing ang sleeveless. Para kasing nega vibes agad.

And then nung nasa office na ko, yung choir mega chika sila dun sa admin na high blood na naman daw si Father. Nakita ako nung isang member na nakatingin sa kanila and she asked if bride-to-be daw ako and if dun daw ako ikakasal, dala na lang daw ako ng sariling priest.

Buti na lang madre yung aunt ko, madami siyang kilalang priests. :)

Hi sis, Father Allen was our officiating priest in Caleruega.  Very personalised yung homily, about us talaga.  We smiled, laughed and cried too because anggaling niya mag-misa.. Even the guests were laughing and crying! After the wedding, the guests asked if we personally know him kase alam na alam niya story namin :)
Search mo sis sa search bar, all good reviews sa kanya :)

We asked a family friend priest to officiate our wedding. I havent attended any of his masses before so wala akong idea how he is pero my sister highly recommended him. We were so glad kasi we got him to celebrate our wedding. :) Sobrang ganda ng message nya. And because we were wed on
the first Sunday of Advent, the homily revolved around the importance of waiting for the right moment. Sakto din kasi during the homily he asked us why did we want to marry each other, and my husband mentioned something about waiting for the right person. Natouch kami sa message nya kasi although it was a sunday mass, he related it to us pa din. Anyway, his name is Fr. Erwin Aguilar. He's from Batangas. Kapitbahay lang namin sya actually.
