What If Magsara Bigla ang company mo at matanda kana pero kelangan mo ng work?

WHAT IF LANG NAMAN PO, I know some of you are confident na matatag ang company na pinagta trabahuhan ninyo, madalas ko lang ito naiisip.

I'm an accounting grad kasi, and of course sa finance ang trabaho ko, at nasa thirties na rin ako at hindi na bata, paano pag bigla na nagsara ang company ko tapos kelangan ko pa mag work, pero dahil hindi naman managerial ang position ko hindi ako confident na makakahanap ako ng work kaagad.

Do you think may companies na mag ha hire sakin as staff or entry level?

How about others? Wala lang, naisip ko lang.

Why not? Dami nga dito sa company namin matatanda na nun pumasok dito. Pero kung experienced na talaga, why not try managerial positions? Confidence lang yan!

That's not old yet and I know some who had career change in their 30s at successful na ngayon.

BTW, savings and investments ang fall back kung sa financial aspect. Dami threads dito ng alternative or passive sources of income.

TS, your description hit me close to where I am now!  I am out of job for 9 months now. And what is scarier is I am a single mom with 2 kids, without dad's support, living abroad.

harley18, mas konti ngayon ang managerial positions, at mas maraming young blood din na mas mura sayo. 

Sometimes I question also, if you are already working as a director/managerial level, tapos nawalan ka ng job, are you willing to go as staff level ulit.  Technically speaking, sasabihin mo oo, kasi marangal naman ang trabaho, hindi ka naman nagnanakaw and all.  Pero ito tanungin ko, kaya ba ng ego mo? Kasi nasanay ka na all along people reporting to you, sa society you attend forums/meetings here and there, relatives mo know you are a graduate of the top schools with masters. Tapos dahil you need a job, kahit anong job papasuking mo ba?

^ sis j.adore, iba parin kasi if you have work. passive income is definitely good. but iba yung may ginagawa ka at pinagkakaabalahan kesa sa naka tengga ka lang.

sis j.adore and harley18 not really career change, yung bigla ka lang nawalan ng trabaho sa panahong di mo inaasahan or not really your choice, like biglang nagsara ang company. I know bpo's do not really look at applicant's age so iyon isa sa mga considerations.

yep. BPO kami, kaya sabi ko nga din na madaming may edad na nun pumasok dito.

O kaya mag self employed na lang. Yun usually napapanood ko sa Kabuhayang Swak na Swak sa ABS-CBN. Yun mga biglang nawawalan ng trabaho so nagbusiness na lang...

Ok gets this is one of my biggest fears😕 kaya din nag research na ako ng ibang sources of income.

I think regardless of position, mahirap nga maghanap lalo na kung di pwede idle for several months.

Like you, willing ako magtake ng entry position at tama, BPO is a good alternative.

Yung sinasabi ko na nagcareer change at 30s ay sa real estate naman as an agent. Ok din ito laki income sa commission😊

Sis, I tap into my savings from separation pay and savings ko. Kasi maliit lang separation namin. Tapos  ever since kasi I'm a conservative investor, Mas nakaka tulog ako kapag may savings ako. Kaya simula Nung nagka work ako, I have always lived below my means.

In terms of bigla nagsara company, I had my share of stories on that. First was ok lang kasi inabsorb ako ng sister company ng employer ko, 2 lang kami ni lipat nun, the rest of the 100 employees separated talaga. Then this time, nagsara din company ulit (different company). So in essence na experience ko twice so praning ako kaya I make sure I got emergency funds.

Kaya dapat kailangan palaging may reserve na funds para hindi kawawa. TS in case magkaganon pwede ka namang mag business lalo na accounting grad ka naman so mas madali sayo. Kaya ngayon pa lang dapat magisip isip ka na kung anong pwede mong business just in case.

^thanks sis, pero honestly hindi madali sakin ang business kung ako ang tagabenta, yes the recording, BIR and the likes, kaya ko, pero yung selling, approaching people and marketing my product, I don't know kung pano gagawin yun eh introvert at mahiyain ako  haha!

^naka 2 networking na po ako na nasalihan, nag try na rin akong maging sales agent ng isang sikat na real estate firm, estate broker, pero hirap talaga ako mag benta, kelangan kong i build up ng bonggang bongga ang selling skills (kung meron man) ko

I just want to share. Galing ako sa big company. Halos every 2-3 years may reorganization. Usually nag ooffer sila ng early retirement lalo na if you're a senior staff kasi malaki na ang salary bracket mo. I availed of that kasi bata-bata pa naman ako non but a colleague of mine, she's in ther 40s na. Ang sama ng loob nya sa pinaka boss namin kasi pinag iinitan sya para ma convince na sya mag retire. Kasi naman, they can pay a fresh grad to do her job at 1/4 of her salary. They even transferred her to the head office sa manila when taga south sya even though pwede naman pala sya sa regional office. Even by way of jokes, sinasabihan sya na, "Eto kasi si ___, di pa mag avail eh [ng retirement]." Sabay ngisi.

If you're not in a supervisory position, mahirap na makipagsabayan sa mga new grads especially sa pay cuts and most companies (unless BPO), they prefer younger applicants kasi they're easier to train and "wala pang sungay" so to speak.

Buti na lang, there are a lot of things you can do if in case that happens to you. There are online jobs, start a business, dabble in stocks, etc.

... and to make things worse, you have little savings in the bank - not enough to start a business, support yourself for months to learn new skills, or just not very attractive to employers as they prefer to hire younger people?

and you happen that you do not have friends or relatives to borrow money from and since you are out of work, you aren't qualified for any loans elsewhere?

Kaya kailangan talaga ng matinding preparation just in case the above happens.

Yung managerial positions, tama, konti lang yan, and most of these prefer to hire those who have solid experience with it. So out of luck rin ang mga nawalan ng trabaho kung di sila nasa managerial position.

Most BPOs accept 40 years old and above applicants. I think as long as kaya mo pa mag work and you're still healthy na sumabak sa BPO Companies e pwede pa naman. Nowadays, madami parin naman companies na kahit hindi BPO na tumatanggap ng matatanda. As long as you have the knowledge and experience dun sa applyan mo.

I'm 30 and I switched career. Well, I hope Ill be successful na sa new career na pinasok ko. My sister naman was a Consultant before and may head hunter na kumuha sa kanya when she was 42 years old yata. Now, she's the Vice President na ng isang malaking COmpany dito sa Philippines.

Based naman sa sinabi mo mukha namang madami kang makukuhang work sis. And also, I still suggest that while your young and healthy, save more and invest to prepare for your early retirement. Para at least prepared ka kung ano man mangyari.

most BPO's does accept candidates that are even 40+ as entry level PERO not all of them last....lalong lalo na if the applicant came from a totally different LOB and position before. Don't get me wrong, madami ako naging ka-team na older than my dad who does their work better than anyone I know on the floor, problem lang talaga they just cannot really keep up that well with the demands with that type of job.

And to add insult to injury, sila pa yung madalas pag initan ng mga nasa position kasi they are seen as potential liabilities, someone who will definitely drag the team down in the long run kasi need pa gabayan every step of the way when the rest should be taking care of themselves.

When it comes down to it, yes it is fun and enjoyable to experience the cc life but at the end of the day, it's basically every man for himself. I'm just so glad I'm out of that brutal life.
