Money Dance on your Wedding Reception
« on: January 10, 2015, 07:41:26 am »
Hi Sisses! I just want to know what's your reaction on doing a Money Dance Tradition on your reception.

On my case, H2B and I agreed na we wont have a money dance. Our friends and co-workers lived in Manila. we invited some of our bosses too. We were thinking hindi na uso sa Manila mag pa Money Dance. But relatives from both sides came from provinces naman. While meeting with my caterer this week, she said that's one thing na pinag sisisihan nya na walang money dance. And my mom suggested na dapat may Money Dance talaga.. I said to my mom naman na parang naghihingi ng pera infront of everyone, at ayoko naman noon. Isa pa masisira ang mga damit namin. My mom insisted na po put monetary gifts sa invites namin, and I think that's enough na.

How about you sisses, may Money Dance ba kayo on your wedding reception?

We are not having a money dance on ours, pero sis if you're worried about your dress, what they do is they put a sash on you instead at dun nila i-pin ang money.

Honest opinion: I find it tacky kasi nanghihingi ng pera.

We're not from Batangas so di ko talaga ito nakikita as tradition. Mga guests din namin ay taga Manila tapos may foreigners pa.
The host suggested this pero no no talaga sa akin kaya pinatangal ko.

Siguro to appease your mother and relatives, have it pero short song na lang.
I attended a wedding na parang nag concert na yung kumakanta at money dance yung couple the whole time.

Kung concern mo yung damit niyo, pagawa o bili kayo nung parang veil during ceremony para dun kabit lahat tapos isang tanggalan lang.

You can search the thread about gifts to read on opinions about putting request for gifts or money sa invites.
We did not put anything since etiquette says so tapos word of mouth na lang o kung may nagtanong.

when my sister got married last year sa st james, nag-money dance din sila as part of batangas tradition, though sa alabang ang wedding.. majority of our relatives and friends are from overseas (we are overseas din) at sobra silang nag-enjoy sa money dance kase minsan lang sila makakita nito.. even my niece and nephews who are citizen overseas, nag-enjoy din.. tuwang tuwa magsabit ang kids ng $10! angcute! :)

We will not have a money dance since we will include in our wedding invitation the we prefer monetary gifts.
Pero if you didn't put it in your invitation i think that would be fine.

My two cents on the matter. If you're placing your preference for enveloped gifts on the invites, I think it would be a tad too much if you're having a money dance as well. Guests may be turned off thinking that the couple turned the wedding into a money-making venture. It's more acceptable to choose either of the two. :)

There's another tradition in Batangas called 'Sabugan' and I was able to witness one during a wedding. Does anyone here know that tradition?

It's not a money dance but it's also one way to receive money. The host calls out the principal sponsors, family members and relatives of the bride and groom and they hand out the money they will give the couple to the host. Then the host will count the money given in front of everyone. After everyone has been called out, someone is going to total the amount and the host will announce how much was given to the couple during this activity. All the money will be wrapped in a white handkerchief and the couple will say some vows or something over the money.

IMO it's more tacky than a money dance.

the money dance is a popular wedding tradition here in Pinas, its not only in Batangas but in other provinces as well.

the wedding hosts do this as part of tradition, not just for the money, and people should respect that. if you dont understand the tradition then dont do it.

as much as possible ayoko na mag-money dance kase ipapaalam naman namin by word of mouth na we prefer cash gifts lalo na't we'll start remodeling yung titirhan namin.. kaso we have some traditional guests na baka mag-set aside ng cash at mag-abang ng money dance.
medyo nagging thought lang naman yun but i'd prefer na wala na nga.. unless siguro may mga guests na vocally humirit ng "asan ang money dance?!" lol

we didn't have a money dance. one, hindi naman sya tradition sa province namin. two, we don't want our guests feel na pera lang habol namin sa attendance nila (since we also requested for monetary gifts instead of the normal ones). three, ayaw ni hubby, minsan the guests will feel awkward or mahihiya especially if hindi naman kalakihan yung isasabit nila. so to not let our guest feel that, we opted not to have the money dance na lang.

I am from Batangas and yes I have attended so many weddings, actually all of it yata has SABUGAN. My ate even had one. Malaki din actually nagagastos ng bride and groom dito kasi before the wedding they have to give the principal sponsors something na magiging basis naman nila on how much they would give them on the wedding day. The more expensive the value is the more pressured the ninongs and ninangs to give high amounts. Like sa ate ko they had like 5 pairs of sponsors. They gave each of them half of a pig, fruits, kakanin and cake. If I remember correctly each got 40 kilos at least. and it's literally half ng katawan ng baboy.

On the day naman mejo pressure sa both sides since bawat money na binibigay is separated depende kung kaninong relatives. I think the main purpose is para lumaki yung amount. This is literally asking for money and they don't hide that fact kasi it is being done as "unang hanapbuhay ng magasawa" as the announcer will always say.

I dont find it nakakahiya kasi tradition  naman iyon. Unless wala sa inyo ang taga Batangas kahit isa. I wont have it on my wedding though or put monetary gift requests on my invite. As for money dance I dont want it as well kaso hubby would like to have one since all his relatives are from the US and he wants them to experience it. But I dont know, baka or hindi.. Pero wala naman masama sa money dance and I dont find couples preferring to have one as tacky. Pampadagdag saya nga siya e

I plan to have a money dance for the sake of having fun but not to collect money and some of my guests wanted to have one. My mom is from Batangas.
