Is there any news if Ikea will be opening in Manila soon? 

There's already H&M Home and Crate and Barrel.  I hope Ikea considers opening a huge branch with restaurant here.

I am one of the many hopefuls na sana magkaron na talaga dito this year. We'll be moving in to our condo by Q4 and I want to furnish it with all-IKEA items. Kung hindi kasi ang option ko lang is to buy from SG and have it shipped here. Ayoko bumili sa mga reseller dito grabe ang tubo and it's not the real IKEA shopping experience.

I actually don't understand how Crate & Barrel can survive in the Philippines and IKEA won't? Mas mahal naman di hamak ang Crate & Barrel. Ang IKEA, kahit na di sila magiging ganun ka-benta sa big furnitures, yung small ones and stuff for the house, I'm sure maraming bibili.

^I was thinking the same thing sis mei-mei. IKEA definitely have more affordable items and mas kumpleto din compared to any other home-related stores here.

the market is definitely ready for it and i don't know why you said it's not and where did you get the conclusion na market is not ready. as for me, obvious ba, di naman mahal ang IKEA and if the other Southeast Asian capitals have them why not in Mnaila where there is even a Crate and Barrel and so many high end Italian furniture shops.

^ikea in manila? the sosyals might be uber thrilled with the idea but given the purchasing power of the commonfolks, I don't really think its going to work simply because of existing cheaper alternatives that are already here. Practicality-wise, yung mga nakikita naman kasi sa ikea ppwede mo na rin makita sa mga neighborhood variety stores like beds, bathroom fixtures, tools, kitchen utensils, etc kumbaga mga common household items, pinagkaiba lang pag nilagay mo ikea sa manila magiging super overpriced yan kasi "imported" ang items.

I've bought several cabinets and small items from IKEA SG before and ang masasabi ko lang maganda sya tingnan pero marupok - not worth for the premium price tagged for the brand that it carries. You're better off scouting in binondo or divisoria instead.

If its for any consolation, their meatballs are worth checking out, nothing fancy or special, sarap lang ng sauce nya

@topic yep maganda yung ikea items tignan pero sa quality I agree na maraming mas okay with the same price range ng ibang furniture suppliers sa pinas, not necessarily sa malls but yung mga vendors like along abad santos and sangandaan area (for manila residents). Usually mga cutesy items and for gifts purposes ang binibili ko sa ikea sa KL.

smart aleck but your reasons stated above is not the definitive answer. For all you know, maraming factors like availability of space, difficult people, bureaucracy etc..but definitely not your reason na purely economics.

Er, those are still under economics and also under "market" (it is not simply customers).
Try to think like a businessman. You need a big profit margin to justify putting up a business here (considerations aside from what you mentioned are franchise fees, operating costs, importation costs, and the like).
And how do you get a big profit margin? - Consistent high volume of sales
And how do you get consistent high volume of sales? - Cover several targets and ensure they are returning customers

As shared here, the markup will be high if they would import the products. Add Philippine cost of living to that, the common people cannot afford to buy. Perhaps some of the people here would think Ikea products aren't expensive but the other majority would say otherwise.
In terms of quality, they are not topnotch. This would reduce returning customers or they might stick to accessories and foodstuffs instead - ergo, less sales.

So tell us, why do you say the "market" is ready? By comparing with other SEA countries that are not the identical market as the Philippines'? By comparing with other brands that have small stores (inside Megamall at that) compared to IKEA?



Though, it would really be great if a franchisee would go ahead and just setup here

I understand their furnitures may not sell well since they're expensive for that kind of quality. However, their home supplies like hangers, frames, laundry bins, decors, etc. will definitely be a hit amongst Filipinos. They're much cheaper and nicer than what SM has.

^um, you don't need to put up an ikea just for those, kahit saan home-themed stores makakabili ka na po ng mga ganun. Puntahan mo yung mga japan home branches sa mga mall dami ka na pagpipilian items na uncommon sa mga nakikita sa ordinaryong bahay ng mga pinoy.

Bukod sa mga sosyal, ang siguradong matutuwa na magkaron ng ikea dito eh yung mga jologs na makakahiga ng libre sa mga display sets ng mga kama at furniture sabay selfie na rin habang nakain ng meatballs at salmon...

^^ um, excuse me, they're not the same. The frames from Daiso and Japan Home look exactly what they're worth while the ones from IKEA look like those expensive frames even if they're worth only around P400-600. The hangers I buy from IKEA are 4 pcs for only P30+ or around P8 per piece. They're the smooth round type that is good for knitted or delicate shirts. Those ones sell for P80 a piece in Japan Home and none of this type in Daiso. In SM or Rustan's or any other home-themed stores, mas mahal pa sya di hamak! I am a super tipid person and I really look around almost all the stores to find the cheapest of whatever stuff I need. The truth is, IKEA does sell cheap non-furniture stuff. The 8pcs of 12x12 mirrors I bought were only P600 (P75 per piece). When I brought them to PH, I realized they looked so good so I ended up wanting to cover the whole wall with them. Sa dami ng hinanapan ko, cheapest yung sa mismong glass/mirror cutter which sold me P100 per piece and I wa disappointed pa dahil yung 12x12 inches nya hindi pulido na 12 inches talaga each side unlike those I bought from IKEA na mas mura pa.

I could enumerate so many things that are cheaper and MUCH NICER in IKEA that I am forced to buy overseas kasi nga walang IKEA sa atin.

i bought Towels, shower curtains, tissue holders, even kawali in Ikea. What I like about it is ang mura! at matitibay.  Yung towels around 200 lang maganda naman. Then yung tissue holder na pag binili mo dito nasa 500 lang don nasa 150 pesos lang. I bought non stick pan for only 400 pesos. 2 pa sya isang malaki at maliit. At hanggang ngayon maayos pa compare sa binili ng husband ko na may tatak na nonstick pan sira sira na. enjoy din ako pagiikot sa Ikea parang ang sarap tumira.

At syempre pinaka love ko swedish meatballs nila!

^exactly sis, affordable, good quality and stylish ang tatak IKEA. Middle class Europe, US, HK, Japan, SG can't go wrong.. Kaya nga I'm hoping that they open one here para people here can have better options in furniture and home ware shopping.
