Birthing Experience in the US

Hi moms! Meron po ba dito na nakaexperience manganak dito sa US? Bago lang ako dito and I haven't been seen by a doctor yet. No idea kung anong ieexpect sa hospitals. How long can you stay sa hospital? Or pwede ba dun ka na maglabor? I'm so clueless ni hindi ko alam kung anong itatanong ko dito.hehe . Please share naman po. Thanks so much!:)

It would depend on your healthcare insurance and what it will cover and which hospitals. Do you have that info?

My mom wanted me to give birth in the US but since i wouldn't have insurance i'd have to go to public hospitals lang. Eh i know in that case i wouldn't have a regular ob, just whoever is on duty that day

I'm here in California about to give birth anytime soon...38w3d nko.. Once pa lang ako nakapag pacheck up sa ob... medyo pricey since wala ako insurance and private hospital pa.. So far ok naman yung hospital.. Babalik ako ulit next week for check up, I'll start to ask na din kasi clueless ako sa procedure nila dito eh 1st baby ko pa naman...

Nandito naman ako sa Texas and no insurance din. Same level of medical attention naman siguro binibigay nila diba? I heard ang maganda dito sa US mostly room-in ang babies and breastfeeding advocate talaga. Ang hindi ko lang sure kung pwede ka mag stay longer even after mo manganak to recover saka kung pinapayagan nila mag walk around para bumaba ang baby.

Hi! I am in Hawaii naman, 33w2d preggy with our second baby. My first was born in the Philippines almost 4 years ago. Maternal care here is okay naman thus far. I have a Filipina OB who has been seeing me since the onset of my pregnancy, and an American perinatologist for my ultrasounds (4 so far. Will have my last U/S in 2 weeks). I will deliver my child in a private hospital, but my current OBG will refer me to another OBG (Pinoy din) kasi she can't deliver at this time at our hospital of choice. I am hoping everything goes well. Nag iipon na rin kami kasi CS ako and 80% lang ng expenses ang covered ng insurance ko.

i gave birth last year in a private hospital in new york. i can't compare it with giving birth in pinas coz first time mom ako.

i would say na very much satisfied ako sa care that was given to me and my baby. from pre-labor down to discharge, topnotch care talaga. meron silang "care with compassion" di yung dahil trabaho lang, etc. mafi-feel mo ang sincerity when they look after you.

post-delivery, lahat na yata ng pwede kong itanong or assistance na kailangan ko nabigay sa akin, anytime kahit madaling araw. i never attended ANY birthing class, breastfeeding class, etc and lahat natutunan ko while staying in the hospital coz meron nag-co-coach sa akin. meron daily breastfeeding classes and may one-on-one sessions pa with a breastfeeding consultant (yes, there is such a thing here). meron how to care for your baby, what to expect, etc etc.

in terms of comfort, they make sure na you will have everything you need, maternity pads, pain relieving spray, as in lahat ibibgay sa iyo. you can ask for extra if you wish. ang dami kong inuwing maternity pads, disposable underwear, hospital socks, pain relief spray, pati supplies ni baby nag-hoard ako (the third-world creature in me).

in summary, if i were given the chance to have another baby, no second thoughts, i would go to the same hospital.

btw, i have medical insurance so 100% covered. nagbayad lang ako ng co-pay $100 and that's it. if wala akong medical insurance, around $34,000 ang bill...seriously! as in nakita ko sa online account ko kung ano-anong charges meron. yung pedia na 2 mins ko lang kinausap (routine prior to discharge) nag-charge ng $450...kaloka!

hi, sis! if private hospital sa cali yan, i'm pretty sure magandang experience din makukuha mo. if you want to do research, go to yelp.com may mga reviews din sa hospitals dun, lol.

about your question, 3 hospital personnel lang nasa delivery room: yung head ng OB, yung nag-stand-in sa usual OB ko (coz off siya that day, obviously) and delivery room nurse.

stress-free talaga ang environment, hindi parang sa movies na bright white lights, sobranag liwanag na room, maingay, sigawan...lol! as in complete opposite ng pinoy movies, dim lights (may spotlight lang sa vaginal area for the doctors), tapos may tv pa for me! as if makakanood ako! nandun din sa room ang hubby ko, btw.

try not to worry too much, if you can. ganyan din ako nung una. pero nung nasa delivery room na ako and nakita ko ang set-up, na-relax ako ng konti kahit papaano.

hello sis dito ko seattle olympia right now with my husband. nalaman namin na pregnant ako nung valentines day lang. Nag pt ako and it turned out positive. papa check up kami this week to confirm. I dont know kung anong dapat mga itanong ko sa doctor. first baby namin to and I feel nervous. Sana kung pinoy din yung doctor ko.  Para comfortable ako. May alam ba kayong magandang clinic or hospital dto sa seattle?

sis sunshine8, how was your experience? Also if you dont mind sharing how much you spent in total?

My husband and I are US tax payers (we file jointly) but we I dont have insurance since I do not work nor live there. Im thinking of giving birth to our second in the US. Gusto ko lang ma experience yung difference. Also my children will be US citizens anyway no matter where I give birth so I dont think it will have a negative implication even if I'm on a tourist visa.
