For the future, what comes first CAREER or FAMILY?
« on: November 03, 2014, 06:06:58 pm »
I'm 31 and in a long distance relationship. We are both working in the middle east but in different countries. If everything falls into place, gusto na nya mag-move kung nasaan man ako para magkasama kami and eventually, to start a family.

At the same time, I need to be in the US on or before October2015 as an immigrant. I have waited for this for a long time (way before I met him) at surprisingly, when he came into my life, doon naman bumilis ang process.

He doesn't want me to move there kase gusto nya magkasama muna kami ng matagal. He believes that we need a strong foundation bago kami magkahiwalay ulit. He wants to have a family (he's 31).

My future family will benefit as well sa immigrant status ko sa US. Isang option namin ang umuwi ako ng madalas para magkasama kami ng madalas pero money is an issue. I will start a new life there at syempre part nun is maghanap ng trabaho.

He will try to apply for a tourist visa but he is not well travelled (as tourist). Wala din relatives sa US. It's a risk and as of now, wala pa akong maisip na reason why he will go to the US na makaka-convince sa consul.

I'm considering of marrying him before I leave para lang mas mabilis ko syang ma-apply ng immigrant visa. US which again will take time. My clock is ticking and I want to have kids too.

I don't know what to do. Help!  :( :( :(

Sis, July 2015 pa naman kayo magtravel. You still have a few months to plan with him. In his case, kahit hindi sya well travelled, basta ok naman ang bank account nya, he should be able to be granted a visa.  Baka mas madali nga mag apply ng US visa to where he is working kesa sa Manila?

How long have you known him? Ang point ko lang, sometimes it is not worth throwing away your original plans for someone you are not sure.

Magkakasama. July-Sep is 3 months. Then Oct you go to the US, maganda kung makasama sya.

He doesn't want me to move there kase gusto nya magkasama muna kami ng matagal. He believes that we need a strong foundation bago kami magkahiwalay ulit. He wants to have a family (he's 31).

Matagal? Like ...?  July 2015 hanggang???  Without work?  How can you/he sustain your bills while not working?  Do not tell me that both of you will wipe out all your ipon?

There is no amount of being matagal magkasama if you are already in LDR to begin with.

My future family will benefit as well sa immigrant status ko sa US. How long is he staying in Pinas ba?  At gaano ka katagal kelangan magstay sa US?

Sis, huwag mo madaliin (at least to my mind), make sure he is the right one. Sigurado ka na ba sa kanya, or just so happened na sya ang BF mo now at gusto mo na magkaanak kaya you are settling with him na ikasal sa kanya agad?

Tandaan mo, mahirap ikasal sa Pinas only to end up with a philandering partner at walang divorce. Panghabang buhay na sakit ng ulo iyan.

Marry right, pang habang buhay mo sya makakasama.  Having kids can also be a blessing. Kasi kung may FAMILY ka man, inuna mo kunwari ang FAMILY over career, worse case?  kapag hindi ka naging masaya since he is not the right one, you end up separating, so bale wala.  masama pa nyan walang divorce sa pinas. so gulo gulo buhay mo.  So make sure he is the right one muna before you give up so many things.  If you are not sure, then go for your US trip and plan around it.

Kung inuna mo naman ang CAREER, more opportunities will be open for you there.  He would wait for you kung mahal ka talaga nya. He would remain loyal and faithful to you kung mahal ka talaga nya (kasi maraming pinoy finds it hard to be be faithful kung nasa LDR man o hindi just dunno why). Especially you are in the US, mas open minded ang tao dun at marami ka pang ma-m-meet.

So kinompare ko lang yung Worst scenarios for both kung inuna mo FAMILY or CAREER. Pero kung inuna mo ang CAREER at worse ang kinalabasan, you are still better off.
Pero syempre the best case for both FAMILY and CAREER is you are in the US with him, kaya walang problem dun.

don't make any hasty decisions as those will really affect you for the rest of your life.

if i were you,  i will not marry him just yet.  go to the US (without him) as planned and get settled.  that will take a couple of years.  use that time to determine if you guys are really meant for each other. distance and time are very good test of a true relationship. then if you guys are still together as in LDR, then go back for him and marry him.

being in love is such a good feeling that sometimes we forget to be realistic in life.  you have to think of yourself, first and foremost.  i'm not saying be selfish, but with the situation you have, him asking you to stay is a foolish one.

i am speaking from experience.  i had a similar situation bec i had to leave for the US also and i had a boyfriend.  but it wasn't an issue bec we waited so long for that immigrant VISA to come tapos i jeopardize like bec of a boyfriend?  anyway, to make the long story short, we endured the distance and the time being separated.  after a couple of years in the states, i went back for him.  we got together, got married then i filed a petition for him when i became a US citizen.  now look at us,  married for 30 years, been together for 37 years.

please use your head,  trust me,  it's all worth it.  ;)

Agreed to both sissies, if he really love you he would wait and understand, it would benefit both of you if succeded, it is having a good future someday anyway, dont rush, oppotunity knock once, could be a test for the relationship too, if you dont end up with him, you'd end up with another person.
