I emailed yung kausap ko as SB Pque branch to ask about the 500 maintining balance and eto ang sinabi:

"The php500.00 was the old atm maintaining balance. Since October we updated our products thus the atm daily average balance was increased to php5,000.00. said atm is an international and debit card, which you can you abroad."

Oh well  :(

Someone recently posted on a Facebook page that she was able to invest in one of Security Bank's UITF without having to deposit an additional 5k or 10k to open a regular ATM/passbook savings account. What they assigned to her was a settlement account. It works just like a savings account but it doesn't have a minimum deposit or maintaining balance requirement. It is  used only for the UITF.

The downside to just getting a settlement account is you won't be able to register for Security Bank's online banking. You neither will be able to buy or redeem shares online nor will you be able to monitor your investment online.

^^ that's what I did today. Meron lang kasi akong eSecure at Cash card account with them so yan ang inoffer din sa akin but mag open ako ng regular account ko on Monday kasi gusto ko siya ma track online. Puwede naman daw yun mag fill up lang ng amendment form.

This is my first investment ever so hopefully maging good experience. :)

I just got off the phone with someone from my branch and that's indeed
what it is.

I was expecting them to raise the maintaining balance but apparently
I got grandfathered and instead of raising the maintaining balance
of the old product they just offered new ones with a higher maintaining balance.

Its a very pleasant surprise  ;D

Good for you aishen.

But you should know there is no such thing as
a cheap or expensive UTIF/MF just based on its
NAV.

It just doesn't work that way.
The current NAVPu/s doesn't matter.
What matters is the rate at which it grows.

I opened an account sa SB kanina lang. I'm planning to get UITF also kaso I'm torn king anong uitf, PESO EQUITY, HIGH DIVEDEND or [textspeak!] PESO BOND FUND. Can anyone enlighten me. Mas mataas kasi ROI ng peso equity and nung peso bond pero etong high divedend mejo maliit and kakastart pa lang pero blue chip companies kasi toh eh.

^^ If you check halos pareho lang ang return nung peso equity fund and yung high dividend fund from march 10, 2014 (inception date ng high dividend fund) to december 29, 2014. Peso equity is at 32% from march 10 while high dividend fund is at 31%

Mukhang mas maliit lang sya compared sa peso equity kasi yung YTD ng peso equity nung 2014, starts on january 6, 2014.

Anyway, choose a fund na feeling mo mas magiging mataas yung potential for growth and yung swak sa risk appetite mo.

EDIT: Also, not sure where you got the info on peso bond fund, but its ROI for 2014 is only 6.01%

If ever I placed today, is it NAVPU of today or tomorrow's NAVPU [textspeak!] pagbasehan ko sa units ko?

Depends on the time of investment.

- Before cut off - Today's NAV
- After cut off - Tomorrow's NAV

ex.

The equity fund's cut off is 130pm

If you invest at 1PM, you get today's NAV
if you invest at 2PM, you get tomorrow's NAV

i have a question re SB Peso Equity Fund. Does the 48% YOY ROI mean that if you'd invested P10,000 last year, you'd have earned nearly P5,000 this year? How does the NAVPU figure in that?

^Yes, that is correct.

As for your second question:

On Jan, 30, 2014, the the fund's NAVPU was 1.846984. Disregarding any fees for simplicity's sake, your 10,000 then would've bought 5,414.23 units of the fund (10,000 / 1.846984).

Exactly one year later, the fund's NAVPU is now already 2.735536. Each of those units that you bought at 1.8xx is now already worth 2.7xx. Just multiply the current NAVPU (2.735536) with the number of units you own (5,414.23) to get your fund's current market value (14,810.83). Whopping 48% return!
