It  is always cheaper  joining a tour group than hiring somebody exclusively to drive you around in the US unless he or she is doing it for free or at a very very  discounted or almost free  rate. Personalize service costs an arm and a leg here. If you do not want to join a bus  tour group for flexibility and convenience, you can always rent a car/van and drive it yourself or with friends with the help of a GPS.

^Correct! Labor costs in the US are super expensive. Kaya nga uso and DIY sa kanila! Yes, definitely rent a car with GPS and drive it yourself. Madali lang naman.

In LA you'll need a car since the sights are far and between but in San Francisco no need. The public transpo there is easy and convenient.

i have read nga that in san francisco no need naman the transpo but what if we have 3 seniors na kasama and 1 child baka mahirapan sila sa san francisco di ba?....

and if magrent kami car mga sis san ba cheapest magrent ng van?  i think we need van na di ba kasi we are 7pax with at least 8 baggage pa...wala ba kayo kilala pinoy na nagpaparent ng van

^^ just check online (Kayak, Booking and the like). It'll give you options naman on what type/size of vehicle you need. You may also specify your pick-up and drop-off points.

On our trip early this year, we rented a car for a day in NY kasi hubby's cousin isn't available that day e we wanted to go to Woodbury for some shopping. We just booked the night before. Though medyo kinulang kami option for vehicle type kasi nga day before lang (we wanted kasi sana AUV/SUV pero sedan na lang available; 3pax lang naman kami so pwede na din.).

Sa other states we went to, we had family to drive us around so no problem.

For Vegas/LA, we reserved an SUV while we're still here in Manila, online lang. Then we picked the car up sa Vegas airport. We had the car for a week. Husband drove it around Nevada, to&from Grand Canyon, Vegas to LA, and around LA. We then dropped it off at LAX before our flight home.

Mahal ang personal driver sa US so usually si hubby ang nagda-drive ng rent-a-car. Or if we're travelling with friends, nagsasalitan sila. I don't drive so navigator ang usual role ko, hehe.. 

Better reserve for a vehicle online, even before your trip, to make sure na a specific type of vehicle will be available for you. Baka nga you might need 2 cars pa, with the bagahe.. Consider also if the child will still be needing a car seat or hindi na. It'll take up space din. And bring or rent a GPS.

sorry sisTS,  dito yata talaga walang private na tao na nagpapa-rent ng van or SUV with driver included.  i know ganyan sa Pinas, we'd availed of that service before, dito kasi maraming liability concerns.  kahit nga amongst friends bihira ang naghihiraman ng sasakyan, not because madamot ang mga Pinoy dito, hindi lang talaga practice  .
i understand your concerns with little babies and oldies as travellers and also you'd like to save some money if you can, unfortunately the only option lang ay mag-rent sa established rental companies.   it helps talaga kung may kakilala ka na dito na willing to travel/drive you and show you sights around.
madali lang mag-drive dito and the street layouts are not as confusing compared sa Pinas.

thank you all sissy sa many replies...how about sis sa contract na additional per driver meaning pag narent ka pala dun isang driver lang pwede humawak ng car nila ?...kasi sympre long drive di ba plan namin salitan si hubby and inlaws sa pag drive sana.kaso mukhang maycharge si inlaw ko once na magdrive din sya?

I just renewed my PH driver license and paper lang wala pang ID, out of stock daw, after 5-6 months pa. What will I do? Paano ba yung international driver license?

Kami nung nag US puro car rentals at marunong lahat kaming mag drive eh. Hihiram lang kami ng Garmin or Tomtom sa mga relatives namin doon at okay na hehe
