Buying using oddlot is not necessarily cheaper; same fees apply.

Ang caveat ng oddlot is when you sell. Mas mahirap magbenta ng lower sa boardlot kasi halos lahat nagbebenta on the boardlot or multiples of it. So medyo matagal magkaroon ng transactions.

The reason may oddlot is para sa nga dividends na binigay in the form of shares. Minsan nagbibigay yung company ng share dividends tapos nagkakaroon ng butal. So the oddlot is there para gawing multiple of the boardlot yung number of shares para hindi mahirap ibenta.

For example, you have 104 shares of a stock. If boardlot is 10, you cannot sell all 104 in one transaction.

You need to sell 100 first, then the remaining 4, or vise versa. Since two transactions ito, twice rin ang singil na fees. Every transaction has a fee. Same also with buying. Hence, your goal is to minimize number of transactions to maximize your money to not go to the fees.

Imagine if you trade every single day in a month. Check how much of your money goes to the fees. Compare it to just buying once or twice a month, in bulk.

Parang ok yun sinabi ni @moccaccino. Buy oddlot then sell it as boardlot. In my case I have 1 share left sa SM then bili na lang siguro ako ng 9 or 19 shares para maging boardlot na. Thanks sa mga suggestion. Nanghihinayang talaga ako kay SM binenta ko na hindi man lang ako kumita ng konti. Hold it for 2 years siguro Ave Price ko 807 then sold it at 825. Ganito din nangyari sa BDO ko. Tumataas yun price kun kelan nabenta na.

^ oddlot is always lesser than the boardlot.

if boardlot is 10, oddlot is 1,2,3,.. upto 9 only.

If meron kang 1 share ng SM at ang boardlot niya ay 10, buy oddlot na 9. Para when you sell, you sell 10 shares, which is the boardlot.

You cannot sell 19 in one transaction. You sell 10 muna (boardlot) then the remaining 9 shares (oddlot) kapag po ganyan.

Na discover ko ito through trial and error

Sis 120515, wow napaka forward looking! Pano mo nacompute yung % of ownership target mo? May basis ka ba kung pano sya sineset? And kinocompare mo sya sa 7% growth, for the next 30 yrs na yung 7% sis?
Nagcocompute ka din sis ng expected growth?

Just check the boardlot.
Get the total number of your shares.
Divide it by the boardlot
Get the remainder
Then get boardlot minus the remainder
Buy those shares using oddlot option

Example,

Boardlot: 100
# of share: 1045
1045 / 100 = 10 remainder 45
100 - 45 = 55
Buy 55 shares using oddlot option
You will now have 1045 + 55 = 1,100 shares. Multiple na sya ng boardlot

OR

Just sell the butal, in this case, sell 45 shares using oddlot option

You can still sell the butal na 45 shares, hihintayin mo lang na maging successful yung transaction, that is, may bumili rin ng 45 shares at the same price

^ Mahirap ibenta ang oddlot pero para simple at masaya ang buhay, avoid having oddlot transactions. Ito yung mga may butal.

Kung hindi maiwasan na nagbigay ng shares na butal, sell the excess shares BUT only at a price na hindi sobrang baba.

Always sell at a profit or if not, at a loss that you can take.

We win some, we lose some and that is alright. We only need to have more wins than losses

We count our losses as learning and experience hehe

plan ko sana is buy 19 oddlot then may 1 share of SM ako so 20 na sya. Can I sell 20 boardlot in one transaction?

^ If the boardlot of SM is 10, 9 is the max number of shares you can buy using oddlot option.

to have 20 shares,

- buy 9 shares using oddlot,
- buy 10 shares (non-oddlot)

you can try buying 19 shares the normal way and you will encounter a pop up message.

It is worth a try para you will see what I mean

Sis 120515, wow napaka forward looking! Pano mo nacompute yung % of ownership target mo? May basis ka ba kung pano sya sineset? And kinocompare mo sya sa 7% growth, for the next 30 yrs na yung 7% sis?

hi ironlady, every time i try to reply something goes wrong...hopefully this one goes through :-)
the 7% is my yearly growth, so i'd like my stocks to gain by 7% every year. the 7% is my cost versus the current market value.
for the no. of shares (ownership), i based it on how much dividends i wanted to receive at a certain point in time. i decided on the companies based on their dividend yields. considering the dividend yields of the mix of companies i'm investing in, i computed the number of shares. basically, expected dividend amount divided by dividend per share to get the no. of shares i will get :-)

hi mga sis, newbie question, how do you decide kung ano price ang bid price? do you base lang sa pse website kung ano yung last traded price at best bid price, then syempre mas mababa mas maganda, then wait lang kung me kakagat at magmatch at mafill and order mo? diba pag nagset ka ng bid price mo, eto dapat ang susundin ng broker mo, pag walang kumagat di mamamatch order mo? ang pinili ko lang kasi option is day order bukod sa bid price na sinet ko. wala naman allowance si broker na magplus or minus sa sinet ko na price diba? thank you.
