^No straight answer to that. Some stocks that flew had charts at the bottom. Some had very good news. Some were just jockeyed, while some had a combination of these.

For 2GO on Friday, just by the volume on the ask side, you could plainly see how many people wanted to buy and get in on it. On its bid side, there were very few willing to sell. So, again, more demand for shares and less supply = prices up, way up.

I know one person who can just look at the ask and bid sides and already tell if that stock will move or not. That's one (of the very many) trick(s): see how many people want to buy and compare it with how many people want to sell.

Sa mga nag sa-SAM or PCA dito, paano nyo minononitor or tinatrack? Ano nakalagay sa excel templates nyo? By stock ba? Haha! Balak ko mag set aside ng 5k per month from salary to invest in stocks.. Problem ko lang pano kung more than 1 yung companies ko?

What do you suggest din mga sis?

sis IKAELA, how do you know if it's time to take some profits off a stock? may certain price ka bang target? how do you determine that?

ang hirap kasing hulaan. tulad ng AC, last time natuwa ako 700 plus sya. kaya hinayaan ko lang. tapos the next day, bumagsak to 681! naisip ko, sayang sana nagtake na ako ng profits kahapon. kahit yung kinita man lang na kaunti tas itinira ko yung capital.

sis IRONLADY, mukhang kakailanganin ko na rin si SAM. isang buwan kasi akong nagbabuy ng time. so far, nabawasan na yung capital ko by a few hundred pesos. and i've only been invested for 1 month. nagsell ako ng dalawang stocks nang palugi.

^ Hello Sis,

Ang Truly Rich Club ni Bro Bo is really good for beginners.

TRC is a club that offers guidance in stock market investing for beginners.

Pero kapag nakita mo na yung strategy na hiyang ka, you can opt to not be a member anymore, gaya ni Sis ikaela.

Merong tinatawag na TRC Quickstart. It is a seminar for new members. It is also open to the public. Para siyang orientation on the benefits of being a club member. May tutorials din po on how to buy and sell, and when to buy and sell.

It happens once a month every 1st Sunday of the month.

Meron po this coming Dec 7

Here is the link po: http://trulyrichclub.com/quickstart/

Seminar fee is 1,000 for non-members. For members, it's 197 lang. But if a member registers you on your behalf, you only pay 197. I am a TRC member. I can register you on your behalf.

One-time lang po ito, once you attend you don't need to attend it anymore.

Hope this helps :)

^^Yan ata yung isa sa pinakamahirap na skill to learn in investing in the stock market: learning when to sell. Dapat ata may libro na solely on how to sell stocks!

I don't set target prices for myself generally -- I go with trends. If a stock is trending down overall (like what happened to my MARC in September-October), benta na. Lalo na na at that time, merong mga really good stocks na ang ganda ng laro (like IS).

It was basura and very difficult to monitor, so once I hit my TP, happy na ako.

For DNL, wala din ako target price yan. Napaka-bullish ng mga tao sa DNL, kaya I let it run kung hanggang saan kaya niya.

Sa AC, well, do you remember why you bought it? Has any of those reasons changed? If not, then just keep investing. Ang nangyari lang naman sa AC is may private placement, and who could've seen that (except if you're the one making the private placement)? AC will eventually recover. The question is if you can wait. Maybe in the course of things, something will make you want to move to a faster horse.

So suma total, walang set rules? Haha. But I answered this before, and this was my summary on when to sell (still holds true, I think):

- When a stock's upwards momentum has reversed, be it technical or fundamental
- When you are happy with your profits
- When you need the money, either for expenses or investing in another stock

thank you sis petikspinayinvestor :-) actually may email na ako from  TRC re SAM with the bank details and the promo packages and all. magdedeposit na sana kanina kaso naisip ko, hold off muna until next week. kasi mukhang things are looking up sa ngayon. knock on wood :-) pero definitely will avail of SAM before the year ends, or as a new year gift to mahself :-)

pero sinusunod ko ang isa sa mga basic rules ng SAM- that is, invest in many giants. hindi naman many (mga 3 lang!), pero at least kampante ako na hanggang sa 3rd generation posibleng andun pa rin yung companies.

tyvm sa very insightful input sis ikaela. the reason i bought AC was that it was a giant, at ok ang trend nung time na binili ko sya (yun nga lang medyo mahal talaga ano?). for now, just playing it by ear. actually ngayong mababa ang price nya dapat ngayon tayo magbibili...kasi AC yung tipong kampante kang tataas naman eventually.

happy to hear about your insights on DNL. nakainvest din ako dun. yung MARC, laos :-( marmaing should've-could've thoughts akong naiisip pag nababanggit ang MARC. at BLOOM :-(

pero all in all, after a month, mukhang makakabawi naman ako sa losses dahil sa gains. wag sanang magbago

Sana 'makapaglaro' rin minsan kapag medyo nakapag-aral na and if may extra money :D

The PSEi is the default benchmark in investing in stocks. In the same period of time (June 28 to yesterday), the PSEi did 7.06%. So you are beating the index at 12%!

But let's look at how managed funds are doing: the best mutual fund, Philequity Fund, has returned 18.89% in the same period, and the best UITF, Security Bank's Peso Equity Fund, has returned an astounding 26.28%. Eto lagi tukso ng mga tsupitero sa isa't isa: if you can't beat those returns, eh mabuti pa mag-mutual fund or UITF ka na lang. Wala pa sakit sa ulo. Harsh, but true.

Kaya nga ewan ko bakit laging bank savings account or -- juiceko -- TIME DEPOSIT ang ginagawang benchmark ng ibang tao when comparing returns in investing the stock market. Apples to oranges! Not comparable at all!

It's not enough to say, "hindi ko kikitain yang % na yan sa savings account o sa time deposit." Investing is one instance where you have to take a peek at other people's test papers. See how well you're doing, and if all that trouble of picking stocks, monitoring them, buying, selling, following business news, and experiencing the emotion rollercoaster is worth it.

^Personally, I'm still starting and passive income lang talaga sa kin si stocks kaya ang benchmark ko lagi ay savings account. Pero I'll look into mutual funds and UITF next time. Hindi ko pa napaglalaanan ng panahon yung mga technical things, and I'm aware that this is the reason kung bakit hindi naman ganoon kalaki ang gains ko. Kanya kanya lang din talaga  ;)

That's why I visit this thread every once in a while, it's a good venue to learn and unlearn things.

^Sorry, I didn't mean for my post to sound like it was directed towards you. I was typing my reply when I saw that you had replied first, so it came out that I was replying to you.

Yes, you are right, kanya-kanya naman talaga. But I have set the same benchmarks that tsupiteros use for myself because it is logical to me. I can stop caring about what companies are doing. Wala na ako heart attacks, sisi moments, and stupid moments, tapos masmalaki pa kita. ;)

But I'm still beating them so far, so maybe it's not time to quit yet. And those instincts that I was able to hone (and still honing) have proved invaluable, even out of the stock market. Parang masmadali ako maka-spot ng opportunities, and finally, relatives have begun believing what I've been saying about saving and investing after they find out how much I've made in trading stocks.

Okay, I should stop, my thoughts are all over the place.

Thanks Sis ikaela

Halimbawa, if I want to beat the PSEi this year, I computed for the % change in index since Jan 2.

Jan 2: 5984.26
Nov 24: 7325.13

It's a 22.41% difference

I want to beat the index. Maganda nga naman yang benchmark on return.

I used this site to determine the index on any given day:
http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/index/psei/historical?CountryCode=ph

Just manipulate the 'Enter Date' field to your liking.

Para naman kay sis Ma.Jewel_1987

Jun 28 2013: 6465.28
Nov 24 2014: 7325.13

13.30% change

Dapat yung returns mo ay hindi po bababa diyan if you want to beat the index in the given time period :)

The PSEi is the default benchmark in investing in stocks. In the same period of time (June 28 to yesterday), the PSEi did 7.06%. So you are beating the index at 12%!

^Thanks for correcting my figures, sis. I used June 28, 2014 pala and not June 28, 2013.  :o

Double-checked the figures for Philequity and Security Bank too, and they're correct, buti naman. Me = all over the place today

Actually naisip ko din yan Sis Ikaela If I can earn more in mutual funds than me handling my kaperahn in the stock market  why not let the fund managers handle it, I guess my answer right now is gusto ko din matuto and hopefully maging kasing galing ko kayo someday hehe  ;D

@beach and sunsets, pang longterm ko din sya sis pero if I can earn more than 12% why not di ba hehe, though very incomparable to sa lending business ko na atleast 76% a year haha kaso since nhhwakan ko yung pera ko dun nagagagasto ko din minsan, hindi tuloy sya lumalaki ng husto tsaka andun din kasi yung fear na baka mtkasan ako kaya di ko cia ma-all out sa lending.

@sis Ikaela you are super galing nabi-beat mu pati fund managers  :), san ka usually nagbabasa basa ng tungkol sa mga companies para maging basis mu kung san mag iinvest?

^Wow, speculative play ang type mo ha. GREEN, ACR, BSC. FGEN and EDC too, but they're not completely green energy.

Ma.Jewel_1987: it really doesn't take much to beat the index, we are in a bull market after all. When I started, I picked about 6-8 companies (the usual blue chips, some second liners, some emotional plays), adding and subtracting some along the way. Then when winners started advancing from the rest of the pack, I eliminated the slow movers and concentrated all my money on those 3-4 stocks. Tapos upo lang. Sit down and shut up.

Message me if you need a list.
