In my experience,

1. In SAM table, I check the Expected Growth column. I choose not lower than 15% but I buy companies na more than 25%

2. Depends on your monitoring capacity. It is not the number of companies you buy. It is the number of shares that you buy in that company. Ako umabot sa 13 companies ang sa portfolio pero I have a system to monitor my gains :) Now I am cutting my portfolio to only 7 companies

3. Basta monthly. Ideally the same week kung kelan ka bumili last month.

May malaking katanungan ako mga sissies. I've been reading a lot of articles regarding SAM and Peso Cost Averaging method, and member rin ako ng TRC. and COL ang broker ko. nag start lang ako last october.

For example lang po ito, I will save 10k per payroll (15th and 30th of the month) so meron akong 20k a month to invest.

Kailangan ba tig 2k each company?

3. Tuwing kelan ako bibili ng stocks? I mean yung date kung kelan, every 15th ba or every 30th? 21st? or tuwing monthsary ba namin ni kumander? :)

So example sakin since ang budget ko is 20k/month and example 4 companies ang meron ako, then tig 5k sila?

tapos yung 5,000 / the price ng boardlot of that company

mag trial and error ka niyan e.

minsan yung ibang comp ay less than 5k kaya yung extra maipambibili mo sa iba.

I set a price, click GTC pa. or if yung price is below my buying price limit, I buy at the selling price

I do this before buying. para naka plot na. kasi kung gagawin ko during trading, ma stress ako.

I use Excel. May sistema lang ako papaano :)

My columns are

Date   / Type   / Ticker   / Shares   / Price   / Total   / NET    / Fees

i-plot ko yung data for the 4 companies prior to buying

kwang sun: It looks like your questions as of now are more technical (like how to use and where to click on things on the COL website).

goldengoose: Yes, COL always notifies clients if they receive dividends. You get an email showing the breakdown of the dividends, including price per share, number of shares eligible, taxes paid, and etc.

Question po about TRC, do they send physical copies of the books/cds?

^ Either.

It depends on your preference after studying the pros and cons of the two.

Pag stock market: you have control on which companies to buy, you get the dividends, you get to sell at your target price

Pwede ring both if you want to diversify or compare performance

What's really important:

1) ano ang target amount mo
2) magkano ang dapat mong itabi monthly para ma meet ang target mo (yes, dapat consistent and persistent)
3) how much interest rate will you settle for (always account in inflation rate)
4) how much time ang maibibigay mo to monitor your investments

Based on my experience, in 3.5 years na invested ako sa stock market, okay naman ang returns.

Nasa 34%

Wala pang 5 yrs yun :)

That being said, nothing is guaranteed.

Aral po muna bago invest.

I feel the need to share this:

I also used TRC, Pinoy Investor, and other stock market guides when I was just starting out. They helped me as a total newbie, and I am grateful. It was nice to be coddled and spoonfed, but because I'm the hardheaded type who always wants to do things her way, I ventured out on my own. Ayon, loss ako agad, about 10% of my capital. Haha.

I felt so stupid then, and the loss was very painful. I worried how I was going to get it back and thought that maybe I'm better off leaving everything to fund managers. But tiyaga pa rin ako, trying to learn things, doing research, watching how a stock moves, honing my instincts, and trying to be in tune with general market sentiment. About 10 months after my big loss, I gained my first big win: my first one-hundred-percent-er. In the succeeding months, I gained fifty-percenters, one after the other. I also had losses all throughout -- I cut loss on too-many-to-mention stocks, I loss half of the profits on one 50%er -- but those few big wins very well more than made up for them.

All I'm saying is: it's fine if you don't have time to learn, don't have time to do research. But if you do make time, I'm telling you, it pays off. Hundred, thousand folds (in my case, the money I withdrew from my COL account after a year of investing was equal to one year's salary -- iba pa yung long-term positions). It is very well worth every second of your time to learn what to do with your money. And I'm not even talking about the feeling of fulfillment here. I'm talking about high percentage gains, true profits, and actual cold hard cash.

^ Congrats Sis! You ought to share that story.

Ika nga rin ni Aya Laraya, 3 important elements of making your money grow:

Time
Money
Knowledge

All three should be there to make investments grow.

Spread the love :)

Girls do you think its advisable for a 53 year old, in good health condition naman to open account sa stocks? Natutuwa kasi yung mom ko sa mga kinekwento ko and would like to put some of her savings sa stocks din, mejo hesitant ako kasi nga 53 na sya and parang retirment fund na nya yun, though she's still working pa naman,what do you think?

^ Yes :)

Just explain the pros and cons.

To me, educating oneself is how you manage risks.

Para di rin ganun kalaki ang risk niya, make her invest not more than 10% of her monthly income every month.

tapos short-term target, make her invest for 3 yrs. Consistently.

Kung bibigyan kita ng numbers, suppose your Mom takes home a net income every month of 20,000.

So 10 % of that is 2,000

In 3 yrs, total investment niya is 2,000 x 12 x 3 = 72,000

The above is just illustration, the 33% profit is not guaranteed.

Siguro in 3 yrs gets na nya how stock market investing works.

I suggest buying or selling not more than 2x a month kasi baka naman malugi kayo sa fees (may fee kasi kada transaction). Kaya I am suggesting investing po ha, not day trading.

Imagine if she's going to retire at age 65, that's 12 yrs from now. If okay ang 3-yr investing experience niya above, then she can still invest for 9 more years. :)

~~~
One more thing,
this is all under the assumption na your Mom already has insurance, emergency fund, no utang, has health coverage.
Kasi kung wala pa, unang unang kukuhanan ng pera ay investments--e hindi ganun ka liquid yun. What if down ang market? e di she will be selling shares at a loss. Kaya dapat may emergency fund.
Dapat din magbayad muna ng utang kasi baka talo sa interes
also, investments are subject to estate tax. that also means they will be frozen if anything happens (you know what I mean). Jan pumapasok ang insurance-- dapat your Mom sufficiently covered para naman hindi sayang ang kanyang mga pinagpundaran
^hmm wala syang insurance eh, walang utang though, may emergency fund naman, hindi din sya internet savvy so malamang ako din hahawak ng pera nya. Kaya nga sabe ko ako na lang bahala sa kanya, itambay na lang nya kaperahan nya sa bangko.Pero try ko sya kausapin uli kung gusto ba nya talaga.
^Woo, congratulations! Sasakay sana ako this morning when it was still 4.1x, but I was on the road and couldn't place a buy order. After a few minutes, wala na, arangkada na.
But based on the closing, mukhang may laro pa sa Monday?
