@ hunn

No. Even if she refers you to an Endocrinologist, most probably the Endo will also say the same thing or manage you the same way - diet (hopefully it will work), & additional laboratory work-up as confirmatory tests.

Hi mga sis, hope you could help me. My GD was diagnosed at week 4 of my pregnancy. I'm on my 7th week now and on my 3rd day of insulin. 20 units Every breakfast lang ang riseta sakin. 3 heavy meals with 3 snacks in between. Ok naman on the first two days pero nanotice ko nun morning snack ko mejo nanginginig ako nun day 1 and 2. Earlier I had a hypoglycemia episode mejo scary. I was supposed to take my am snack at 10 am pero nagnap ako so i snoozed my alarm. I woke up 10:15 sweating profusely, I felt cold and was shaking. I checked my blood glucose immediately, it was 32. I panicked kasi super baba nito. I immediately drank 1 pineapple juice, ate several danish cookies and ate my am merienda of wheat bread with cheezwhiz. After 10 mins, i checked my BG again it was 58. Natakot ako kasi mababa pa din so i ate more danish cookies and ate 1 kiwi. Nakatulog ako for 1 hr and 20 mins, i checked my BG and it was 120 na. I had late lunch nalang kasi kakakain ko lang, after 1 hr my BG was 128. 1 hr after dinner BG was 89 and nagcheck din ako 1 hr after night snack it is 86. My endocrinologist didn't give her number, email lang. I sent her an email na pero wala pa reply. Mejo panic lang ulit ako now kasi mababa pa din to diba? What will I do? Ayoko matulog kasi natatakot ako mahypo ulit.

^Sis, bakit insulin agad? Hindi ba sinuggest na mag diet muna?  Sobrang taas ba ng result ng OGTT mo?  Pa check ka ulit kay Endo sis. Sobrang baba nyan.

Pinacontinue sakin ang metformin 3x a day 500 mg.

69 - 1 hr after eating 1 wheat bread with peanut butter,  3:30 am snack ko to natakot kasi ako maghypo ulit kaya gumising ako madaling araw to eat

75 - 1 hr after eating 1 cup brown rice, scrambled egg and 2 pc sardines and 1 kiwi fruit. Breakfast ko to pero di ako nag insulin this morning.

below 95 after waking up
below 120 post meals (2 hours).

As usual kapag napaparami ng kanin, spaghetti, 3 in 1 coffee, pag walang gulay, 3pcs ng pandesal; are the usual triggers.

Hi sis ivy,  thanks for sharing.  Yung endo ko hindi nagbigay ng range. 1 hr post meal lang ang testing ko, 3x a day. Kanina, nagcheck ako before breakfast kahit di required, 69 ang blood sugar ko. Hindi ako naginsulin kasi baka bumaba pa lalo at maghypo ulit ako. Takot nako tuloy maginsulin. 1 hr after eating 2 wheat bread with peanut butter and 1 pisngi ng mangoapple, 130 ang sugar ko.

Monitor lang before breakfast, then 1 hr after meal.

Before breakfast - < 90
1 hr after meal - < 140

Actually, it depends on your endocrinologist kung ilan kilocalories ang i-a-allow niya sa iyo every day. Like in another thread, ang sabi ko ang diabetic diet is individualised (like in my case). Your dietitian will tell you how many cup/s of rice kada meal, ilang pirasong karne, ano-anong prutas ang pwede at ilang piraso, ano ang pwede i-meryenda, ilang piraso ng bread, gaano karaming gatas, etc. You'll have a detailed discussion para pagdating mo sa bahay, alam mo kung ano'ng gagawin mo, at alam mo kung sobra na.

I still know what foods were restricted to me & it was specific for me. If I tell you my diabetic diet plan, it may or may not work for you. Noong umpisa, I lost weight because of strict diet control but nag-gain din ako gradually. Yes, chocolates & any kind of sweets are restricted. So, yung choco flavor quaker oats is a "no no".  If nasa 2nd trimester ka pa lang, safe exercises can help control your blood sugar.

Hi Sis IamDindin, thanks sa pagshare ng values. nakausap ko na [textspeak!] endo ko, after 2 hours pala dapat magsnack after ng breakfast ko. hindi naman kasi nya snabi sakin, she said lang na don't miss my snacks. ang dietitian ang finofollow ko 2-3 hours ang sabi nya.
she told me to stop muna insulin, diet kami ng two weeks pero pag nagkapositive ketones ulit sa urinalysis ko sa first week babalik ako sa knya. she might give me a slow acting insulin. fast acting kasi yung una binigay nya sakin. she also told me na since sa breakfast lang mataas ang blood glucose ko, eat more protein nalang sa breakfast less carbs kasi nagiging sugar din yun. so far ok naman, pasok naman ako except lang kanina breakfast i ate 2 saba, 2 sardines and dalandan nag 148.

Di pa rin sya nagbigay ng values sakin. pagbalik nalang tatanong ko sa kanya ulit. binigyan nya ako dati nung blood glucose diary. napansin ko ang hinihighlight nya ay 130 and up na values.

mga sis, sa pagbackread ko, nakita ko un tip ng isang sis na eat sayote/kamote tops. boil lang then sprinkle with calamansi. masarap sya. napansin ko din maganda blood glucose ko pag iyon ang kinakain ko with my protein. =)

substitute wheat bread over white bread, low fat milk over whole milk

welcome to the club for me hay.

just got my OGTT results and 2 of the results were elevated so hello, GD.

Weird talaga ng pregnancy. With my first kasi sobrang hilig ko sa sweets. as in. ice cream araw araw pero never nagka GD. This time, since I was aiming for VBAC i wanted to control my diet, saka naman nagka GD. Hahaha the irony.

Hindi ko pa napapakita kay OB yung results, kasi out of town daw siya kahapon, but she said na hindi muna niya ako refer sa endo rin, tingnan namin if kaya ko icontrol through diet ng 2 weeks. whew. takot rin ako pumunta sa endo haha she gave me rin the same range as most of you girls, FBS below 90-95 and after meals 120 (2hours).

Monitoring for 3 days na and so far pasado naman lahat with the exception of my breakfast kahapon, hehe nagkape kasi ako kaso stevia na nga yung nilagay ko para sugar substitute nag 140 pa rin ako.  :'(

Bawal ba sugar substitute satin??

Hi guys, I consulted an endocrinologist..she advised me to diet, buy myself a glocumeter and monitor my BS 3x/day, an hour after first bite of every meal..She first gave me a 3-day trial..dapat daw 80-120 mg/dl yung readings, but ok lang lumagpas basta not more than 140..By the way im 32w as of writing

After texting her my readings after 3 days, she gave me 3 more days extension and as much as possible daw, keep it below 140. Lumagpas ako twice at 135 and 139 but after texting her the readings, she said it's okay daw, i can now proceed with once a day monitoring nalang and text her my figures weekly. I'm glad naman that she did not advise me to take insulin nah.

By the way, she did not advice me of any meal plan or calorie count etc, just gave me a general list of foods to eat and avoid, kaya yung diet ko based on personal knowledge lang

>What do you think mga sis? Need kaya ako another endo's opinion or take her word for it ? Para kasing medjo lax lang yung advise nya or am i just being paranoid? :(

>Do you use Control Solution for your glucometer? Meron kasi sa manual nila but I've asked more than 5 pharmacies but wala namang solution silang binebenta.. I'm using Onetouch Select glucometer

>And just curious, does stress contribute to high BS results on the OGTT? When i had my screening kasi it was at 7am, and the night before, as in wala akong tulog, mga few minutes lang siguro..U think naka.contribute kaya yun on my high results?

Well its just me ha. Depende din sayo.

Nagdaan kasi ako sa OB and endo na medjo OA (for me) hindi nakatulong kasi I was super stressed sa araw araw na lang na kakain ako lage akong paranoid. Nung lumipat ako ayun nakatulong kasi hindi ako tinatakot basta lang daw you know your limit, you monitor your readings and maintenance syempre.

Eto lang lagi ulam ko sa breakfast, daing na fish, scrambled egg, scrambled egg with tomatoes, scrambled egg with tomatoes and cheese, dilis, sardines in spanish oil, sardines in tomato oil na reduced. 😞

Sis ainge88, welcome to the club. Sabi kasi ng OB ko sa umaga daw mataas cortisol levels natin kaya it interferes with our insulin producing capacity. Pati yung placenta nagproproduce ng hormones kaya namemess up din nya yung insulin natin while preggy.

Hi sis hunn, depende sa preference mo yan at sa case mo. Ako kasi me SC hemorrhage at threatened abortion kaya important mamanage ang blood sugar ko. Naka bedrest din ako now. Yun endo ko told me until manganak i have to monitor my blood sugar 3 x a day post meal. If me ketones, it means kulang ang nutrients ni baby. Insulin will help me eat more while controlling my blood sugar. Kaya she told me na just eat protein sa breakfast and 10 percent lang ng total carbs for the day. 1/2 cup rice ang equivalent nito. If ikaw yung comfortable na strict na doctor, yung may nakaset tlaga na targets na ifofollow mo, you can transfer pero if gusto mo chill lang, stay with your current endo nalang. Hehe. Same tayo select din ako. Ang alam ko stress does contribute to elevated blood sugar. Cortisol is the stress hormone.
