Gestational Diabetes (Thread 3)

Galing na ako sa endo kanina. Diet and glucose monitoring din ang prescription niya. Pero ang pinagtataka ko lang bakit once a day niya lang pinapacheck glucose ko. Sa 1st day, 2 hours after breakfast. 2nd day, 2 hours after lunch. 3rd day, 2 hours after dinner and so on. Yung mga nababasa ko kasi is 4x a day. Pano ko malalaman if tama ang kinakain ko every meal? Next month pa naman kami ulit magkikita. Wala din sayang nirefer na nutritionist, basta no sweets lang daw and bawas sa rice. So wala akong idea sa calories requirement ko.

Sa CAS, ok naman FL ni baby, right for her AOG. Pero estimated weight niya is sobra ng 100g for her age. Kaya kinabahan na ako na baka nga may GDM ako.

Bumili na din ako ng glucometer, yung Optium Freestyle. Medyo mahal pa naman. Come 32 weeks, may weekly BPP w/ NST na din ako sabi ni OB. Grabe 3rd trimester ko, daming gastos.

I got my OGTT results today.

fbs is 71.90

1st hour is 183 (normal is 180 below)
2nd hour is 157 (normal is 150 below)

my ob wants me to see an endo at nutrionist.  candidate na ba yan for insulin. ayoko mag insulin.

^hindi naman sobrang lampas results mo sis, pwede yan makuha sa diet. Nasa 200+ results ko sa 1st and 2nd hr Tapos ang 3rd hr 180+ . Nacontrol naman sa diet glucose ko, hindi ako nag-insulin, I'm into my 8th weeks of following a meal plan. Kaya yan sa food intake mo

To those who are wondering how to convert from mmol/L to mg/dL, multiply the number (in mmol/L) x 18.

I just had my 75-gm OGTT in a known multi-diagnostic center in Alabang last saturday. Nung andoon na kami, I was surprised to learn from the technician na pati urine ko kukunin, every time they will extract blood; thus I gave them my urine specimen 3x also. As far as I know, blood lang ang kinukuha. I even asked my colleagues, friends who did this test during their pregnancy, & they all said blood sample lang ang kinuha sa kanila. Nung nag-inquire ako sa kanila (re: number of hours of fasting, cost) before the procedure, I did not bother asking about this matter because I was expecting na blood lang.

Anyone who has experienced this also?


My OGTT values are within normal limits. Woohoo!

consulted with endo na last week. although hindi naman masyadong mataas ang values ko, because of PCOS ako and 2 miscarriages before, he would be aggressive daw . so he is treating me as GD pero diet control lang.

I also went to see a dietician. Next week, kelangan ko ulet kumuha ng fbs at 2 hr post prandial glucose test to see kung nacocontrol ng diet ang levels ko.

Did the same procedure. Blood and urine every hour too. Theyre both monitorinv sugar and protein in blood and urine. Anv weird nga kasi my 2nd hour in blood im within normal but urine has sugar. Nevertheless OB says, Im ok.

^ Rezzia, we're the same. Sa fasting urine glucose ko, negative. Sa 1st hour and 2 hour urine glucose results, hala! Naging positive na. Thankfully, yung fasting blood sugar and 2 hours ogtt mismo, within normal limits. I texted my Ob-Gyn about the results, pinapa-clear nya ako sa Endo. Okay lang sa akin kung magrequest ang Endo ko ng repeat 75 gram OGTT (pero sana, sa susunod blood lang ang kukunin; better if she will clear me and conclude na wala akong GDM), basta huwag lang ako magsimula ng insulin therapy.

Though I read na hindi ginagamit na basis ang urine glucose to diagnose GDM.

^^sis, i dont think endo will request another OGTT, its either bibigay ka ng target calorie intake for everyday and will ask you to buy glucometer to monitor your sugar levels, or endo will just clear you since urine lang naman yung positive.

Well actually she did request for repeat 75gm OGTT. I'll be doing it tomorrow at the same institution where I plan to give birth.

^^really? Hirap naman, ako kasi sa MMC endo just cleared me, pinagprick ako to monitor blood sugar for a week, then since normal range, ok na.

Hello! I just got the results of my repeat 75gm OGTT. Unfortunately, the 2nd hour was slightly elevated by 2. (Ang weird kasi sa unang round of tests ko normal; ewan ko ba nagpagulo lang iyong urine glucose.) So, I went back to my Endo and she referred me to a Nutritionist/Dietitian for nutrition counselling, 4x a day blood glucose monitoring (pre-breakfast, 1 hour after breakfast/lunch/dinner). I just started with my dietary modifications and todo adjustment sa nakasanayan ko. Previously, heavy breakfast ang ginagawa ko; ngayon light na lang.

I am going back to her after 2 weeks. Hopefully, maging maganda na trends ng blood glucose ko.

Ok naman halos lahat ng laboratory tests ko except lang sa FBS ko na 106 mg/dl, mga sis mataas na ba talaga yun? first trimester pa lang ako at sinabihan na ako ng OB ko na mag OGTT na ako next week.
GDM na ba agad ito? nag woworry naman ako.

^Sis, wait mo result ng OGTT, dun malalaman if you have GDM.

Hi mga sis, question lang. Ok pa kaya magpa OGTT ng 34 weeks plus? Parang may nabasa kasi ako na around 28 weeks ito pinapagawa. Before Christmas pa kasi yung request ng OB ko kasi di ko na naasikaso kasi naging busy nung holiday season. Then nung nagpunta kame last week nag exceed naman ako sa required na fasting time. So balak ko sana bumalik by Feb 2 para direcho na rin sa checkup sa OB after ng results. TIA!

GDM is diagnosed if any 1 of the hourly values (0 hour, 1 hour or 2 hours) is increased or beyond normal limits. Watch what you eat.

Yep! Pwede pa rin magpa-OGTT at 34 weeks. Better to do it as early as possible, so that you can see if you have GDM or not, & you will be managed immediately.

Hi, I had my 75gms OGTT last Jan. 28 and here are my figures:

FBS 78.16 mg/dl
1 hr 201.75
2 hrs 166.45

My OB recommended diet of 1 cup rice/meal, fruits, vegetable, fish and lean meat and water. After two weeks, I will be screened for 100gms OGTT and HA1c and if results are still high, she will then refer me to an endocrinologist to lower down my blood sugar.

I'm 28weeks and this will be my first baby.

My question is, is my OB too lax to just recommend diet instead of referring me directly to an endocrinologist? Would appreciate your advice po. Thank you
