i asked my brother to accompany us when we went there kasi he knows which one is ok. dinala kami sa suki nya. our rings are simple and cheap lang din. we are not maarte with our rings, since we have our rings na during our civil wedding.

OO sis, it's not about the rings din naman kasi ata, it's about how you treasure and value your partner and relationship. Kaka-excite ikasal Congrats sis.

Alam ko any supplier naman can provide GIA certificates as long as willing ka magbayad for additioinal certification fee. Parang yun kasi isang way nila to cut down cost on diamond rings eh to not provide those GIA certificates?

mikamika, I think most jewellers will sell platinum rings as well as gold.

blueberry14, are you shopping for an engagement ring? I'd expect any reputable jeweller to provide a certificate for a sizeable centre diamond, but usually you don't get one for the small stones used in wedding bands.

Advisable ba platinum wedding bands instead of 18k white gold? I think they're cheaper and harder than gold but what makes people choose them really? And can they still hold diamonds?

If you want it white, platinum is better because that is its natural color, unlike gold. It is also more durable.

Price is about the same. Holding the diamond would depend on the setting by the craftsman.

The downside is that platinum scratches easily than gold and is heavier.

Platinum is actually a softer metal than gold, but it's more malleable. Gold is harder, but more brittle. Over a long period of time you lose gold from your ring, because you lose tiny amounts of metal every time it's polished (that's why very old gold rings can seem thinner than you'd expect). It's lighter, shinier and more scratch-resistant than platinum, but you do have to get it redipped if you want it to stay white.

With platinum, you don't lose metal when your ring is scratched or polished. My jeweller prefers platinum for rings with lots of prong-set stones; he told me the tips of the prongs on a gold ring will wear away over the course of many years (like 20+ years) and you'll have to get them retipped eventually.

A lot of people have the impression that platinum is a dull metal, but it really depends on the alloy. I've seen really dull, grey plat rings, but the metal on my engagement ring is very white and shiny and it hasn't really scratched in the year that I've been wearing it. I think my jeweller uses a platinum-ruthenium alloy.

Price-wise there shouldn't be a huge difference.

^Thank you so much sis j.adore and sevenstars, i learned so much from you guys! So i guess people who choose platinum are after durability over time, not really for cheaper cost. Hmm i don't care so much about the color as long as it looks white-ish silver. Thing lang is i have no idea also where to get platinum rings, esp now that we've told the jeweler about getting our bands from her.. was just really wondering if its worth pushing to get platinum. On the durability angle of gold, maybe i should ask her about this and whether she can source platinum instead. Kaso parang for me jewelry lang is always gold...would fiance feel weird kaya about wearing a band that isnt? Haha im so indecisive. But thanks for all the help!! <3

^i don't think cheaper ang platinum sa gold kasi pag platinum it's usually 95% platinum & 5% ruthenium. Pero pag 18k 75% gold & 25% other metals while 14k 58% gold & 42% other metals. Pero you have to check din with the jeweler kung 95% platinum nga. My husband is very picky when it comes to everything lalo na sa wedding ring, gusto nya talaga platinum. We've checked out platinum rings sa mga fairs and meron din sa greenhills, you can always ask naman. Pero i tried lang to show him Tiffany & Co's, fortunately, dun nya nahanap yung gusto nya. I never thought magustuhan nya dun kasi mahal and all. Sobrang love nya ring nya. Iba yung shine/sparkle kesa sa mga nakita namin sa fairs/gh. Hope that helps! Good luck

Any feedback on Orogem Jewellers in Podium? Dropped by kanina to check out their rings. My friend's e-ring is from there kasi and the brilliance of the diamond is good. As in nakakasilaw when you move your hand. Plus the bands are cheaper than my jeweller.

The setting quality though looks a bit cheap, the prongs are manipis, considering the ring i saw was a 1.5 carat princess cut with a huge halo, worth 1.46M. Kailangan pa pakapalan if ever. And custom made since they dont have full half eternity rings. Hmm but the diamonds there are clear and super sparkly so sulit if ever. Thinking of getting our wedding bands made there but as they have no website, fb page, and no feedback online, im a bit iffy if they're trustworthy....
