I never asked this question to myself before. We were college sweethearts as well.

Actually, once married, it doesn't matter kahit gano katagal mag bf-gf...3,5,8,10 yrs? You'd think you know everything about each other na and you're ready whatever comes your way..., im pretty sure you will still be surprised! (8yrs kami magkakilala ni hubby before we got married)
Kahit na andami na naming na-withstand na challenges noon as bf-gf, IBANG IBA ang challenges as husband and wife. Level up, kumbaga....unexpected ones, never encountered before kind..you just have to face it head on, together.

Now we're almost 10yrs married and all i can say is Marriage is always a work in progress, an ongoing process, needing constant nurturing.....madali lang naman, esp if the two of you will work together and help each other achieve that goal - happily ever after. Lol but its not all fairy tale...
So just take things one step at a time, together.

Sa mga bf-gf pa lang contemplating marriage, remember don't just use your heart, use your head din. :)

Sa mga brides-to-be, ready or not, congrats at good luck! :)

In my opinion a woman should get married early, preferably in her early 20's. Why? Biologically speaking a woman's most fertile years is in her 20's.

Men are different. Wala naman expiration date ang lalake.

That's quite a backward thinking na hahabulin ang biological clock para mag-asawa tapos mag-anak. Yung mga ganyan cases where the marriage fails and they end up having broken families.

^agree sis. Wanting to have a baby is wayyy different than wanting to be married. Sure girls have their biological clock to consider, and it can be one reason to want to get married, but it should not be the most significant one.

Kahit na tinuturo sa atin na the purpose of marriage is to reproduce, para sa akin it's still more about companionship.

For me it doesn't matter kung gaano katagal ang pinagsamahan nyo or kung ilang taong gulang na kayo before you realized that you're ready or not for getting married. basta tanggap nyo ang isa't isa at marunong kayong makuntento and that's it you're ready!. kasi ang taong walang contentment kahit kanino magpakasal at hindi pa kuntento ulit ulit lang! Accept who he/she is and you will live happily ever after... and no ending!...  ;D

during our early 20's we knew na kami na talaga and we planned to get married by the age of 28..but nung 28yrs old na kami, though we both have stable income, we thought it's not yet the right time kasi una, mahal magpakasal at baka dun lang mapunta lahat ng ipon namin and the next question is saan kami pupulutin after the wedding..Now, we are both 32yrs old na, and we are confident na kaya na namin di lang financially but also I can say na medyo matured na kami to build our own family

Am I ready? Yes!

Dahil ba going 8 years na kami ni h2b? No
Dahil ba parehas kaming financially prepared? No
Dahil ba nasa right age na kami? No

Kahit sa wedding preps andaming naming pagsubok na pinagdaanan but still, di kami nag give up.

For me, enough reason na yun to say na ready na talaga ako/kami :)

Ako, re: my current state, hindi pa.
I always tell her to save kahit konting part ng sahod nya. One day millionaire ba..
2. Emotionally hindi pa. I am afraid of failures.
3. Takot ako manganak :(

^ bata pa naman siguro kayo kaya ganyan. give yourself enough time to mature, at ganun din si BF. Mas late daw talaga nagma mature kasi ang mga lalaki, kaya preferably si BF/fiance should be older than you.

Siguro once the right time comes, hindi ka na matatakot of failures. Halos lahat ng kilala ko kasi hindi naman takot magpakasal kasi they are very confident of the love they have for each other.

Another question ladies, since na bring up dito about the age thing.  Ano ang mas pipillin mo, mag asawa nang maaga (pero di pa emotionally ready) pero sure na may anak kayo or wait til the right time (with the right person) comes but risk na baka di ka na magkaanak?

Gusto ko yung busyng busy tayu sa wedding preps tapos me biglang ganitong forum haha! Natamaan ako bigla hehe! But yes, i do believe na ready na ko for marriage. Mind over matter lang yan. And alam ko din namang we can never really be ready kahit gano katagal pinlan or pinrepare mo yung sarili mo sa bagay na to. Ang pinakamahalaga lang, open and honest communication lang ke husband and enjoyin lang ang bawat moment as husband and wife.

Yes. I am ready for Marriage. Nothing's and Nobody's Perfect. We just have to work things out on everything that we do and we will do. Basta ma work out ng both sides.

Girltalker2, I chose the latter and my husband agrees. We think bringing a child in this world should be for the right reasons and not just for the sake of having one.

yannuh, dapat nga madami pang ganito kasi usually puro wedding preps lang wala masyado mental preps :)

As ready as I can be!   :)

Actually, I think i was ready for a lifetime commitment at the onset that fiance and I became a couple.  He's my first boyfriend at 35yo, and I'm his nth from a not-so-long-string of past gfs.  I knew then that if I say "yes" to the relationship then it is not for fooling around anymore; it is to build something together with him and I should carry it through despite whatever differences we have.  It was the same for him.  When he asked me to be his gf, he said he already knew that he'd pull out all the stops to make things work out.

I thought i was happy when i was single.  I never thought being part of a couple could make me happier . And him asking me to make our commitment official thru marriage was the happiest.

Armed with our wisdom (kahit pano at our age. lol!), respective established careers, family and friends' support, love and wanting to be with each other, I can say that I am ready to start fresh, unlearn and relearn, leave my family and cleave with my future husband.

at the end of the day it's about commitment; our commitment to our vows to be loyal, kind, loving, supportive, and honest to one another; our commitment to make the marriage work through easy times and difficult times; our commitment to stay by each other's sides through the halcyon days and the stormy ones. marriage is not a walk in the park and as the famous saying goes, "hindi ito parang mainit na kanin na pwedeng iluwa kapag napaso!" it is an institution built from the bottom up by two people committed to their relationship.
every day, i make a decision to love my husband and to keep my marriage strong. it is not arbitrary, it is not automatic. it is something that i analyze and think about.
once the decision is made, i put my energy into supporting that decision.
i guess it's making myself ready for marriage every day, not just when my husband proposed or when we took our vows or when we'll receive the blessed sacrament.

I can't think/Imagine a day without my h2b it's like he's already a part of me, in my everyday life. That's the first thing I considered when I asked myself I'm ready to commit myself to him. I'm 24 btw and he's 29 :) we've been together for 7 years, and not a day goes by that he would not talked to me about his plans and how excited he is about our future. We're living together for almost 2 years here abroad and we've gone through ups and downs and we managed to learn and accept each others differences. We can definitely say we're ready and excited for Marriage! :)

To answer the question readiness yes i am ready, we are.
I am getting ready for the wedding. I am getting ready for marriage. Fiance and i will share links of articles about marriage. We talk about our future, we talk about what might happen, what may be our solution, and maybe we share the same beliefs, and be God the center of our relationship.
We are only 3.5 years together, but maybe we meet at the right time, that we are mature enough to handle situations weve gone through.
