Tips, Do's & Don't in Moving Out/Moving In
« on: May 14, 2014, 11:59:49 am »
Hi sisses! Two weeks from now, we're moving in to another house, actually a 2 bedroom condo unit from a three bedroom house. Can you share some tips, do's & don't sa pag move out? Please set aside the rituals na, since I know we have a thread for that. Tips like how to make moving out less stressful? Medyo na ooverwhelm na ako as early as now.  :-\

Hi sis, congrats on your new place. Moving to a new place is exciting and stressful at the same time so brace yourself. :)

One useful tip i have is to put a bond paper in every box that you will use. List down all the contents of the box before you seal it. Maintain a master copy with you of all the boxes with contents listed down. That will save you from the stress of looking around for something once you move in.

Happy moving!

Throw out, give, donate what will not fit in your new place.

Put the stuff you will need to use immediately together, in several boxes. Examples:   kitchen cookware & utensils in 1 box; clothing per family member for a week in individual boxes that also contain toiletries & 1 set of bed linens.  Foodstuff and consumables for the week together with vitamins & condiments.

When we move, Boxes 1-20. are those that need to be unpacked immediately (need to be used immediately/within the week).  The other stuff that must be unpacked within the week follow in box numbers, with the tail-end numbers for Xmas decor & other stuff destined for the bodega.

I have a notebook in which the contents of each box are listed.
We also write on the box the number & room destination
(ex. 32 --  Game Room).  That way,  we don't do double sorting in the new house.

Before moving day, clean the new place thoroughly, as in super clean.
Pack ahead of time --  start with the stuff you won't need immediately &/or do not use daily.

Furniture and appliances  (& big decorative items like jars & paintings) have a different set of numbers & are tagged already as to where these are to be placed.  We usually move these first before any boxes, para less gulo at the new place.  Try to move furniture & appliances room by room;  so sama sama ang sa kitchen, dining, etc etc etc.  When these are offloaded at the new place, these are immediately positioned in place.  (Put all remote controls in 1 box -- label each. Yang mga yan ang easily misplaced. In a previous move, we couldn't find a tv remote for 3 months. Eventually found it in a big ginger jar. Susko).

Thanks sisses! We plan to bring things unti unti before the day of our moving in. How about yung cable, internet & phone line? Paano ba yun? How soon do you ask the companies to disconnect or reconnect to the new place?

I think master na namin tong moving in and out of a dwelling place. Hehe. Were almost forever renting kasi kaya after a contract expires , transfer na naman. And it is always tiring to move. What we do to lessen the stress.

1) Hire a mover.
-- The mover will visit your home to asses how big or complicated the move's gonna be. Explain to you what will happen during the move.
-- We get 10ft van/covered truck that could fit all our tall and big appliances/furniture. So far for our last move, all our things fit in naman.
-- The mover usually supplies boxes, sometimes free sometimes 40pcs lang the rest you pay.
-- box all you can and label them. Label them, KITCHEN for known reasons. :) boxes come with waybill (yun ba tawag dun? :)) where you can write some description of stuff inside the box.
-- Movers also wrap your important stuff for you using corrugated papers, bubble wrap or stretch films.

2) We start packing 2 weeks before the big day. pack things according to their usage, first one are those which are seldom use or those displays in the house, small items. photo frames, CDs, etc. On our last week, I already prepared our clothes for the next 7 days, the rest we pack na. if we can wash before the move out, then good if not, put in a box for used clothing

the last batch that we packed were the kitchen stuff kasi we cook everyday so almost lahat ginagamit.

appliances and furniture will be packed with stretch films on the move day itself.

3) make sure na ang house that youre moving in is already clean para pag dating dun put na lang boxes according sa kung sang area sila dapat. Mr Mover will bring all boxes labeled kitchen to the kitchen and we unpack it there. furniture to be put to their exact place na in the house and remove na lang the safety packaging from there.

4) As soon as all items were unloaded and put on their proper areas, unpacking and redecorating are easy na lang. before you know it, home na ulet ang new place nyo. :)

If a mover is not available, its fine just make sure to prepare boxes na lang. if these are expensive to buy, maybe you can get from SM or any grocery store, they could sell you cheap their boxes. find stretch films also, they are really useful in protecting your appliances and furniture. bubble wrap as well.

first, don't bring too much, yung kailangan lang muna. As much as possible para makatipid and no need na magrent ng mover truck, when I moved in my condo what I did was siniksik ko lahat ng kailangan ko sa car then yung mga natirang gamit sa parents, pag may kailangan man ako dun babalikan ko na lang.

Another is, labeling. Sa mga box nakalagay dun kung ano laman nun para mas madali i-arrange :)

I moved from a 4-bedroom house to a 30sqm studio unit and like you, I brought my stuff little by little starting with the essentials (sheets, towels, toiletries, clothes, shoes, basic cookware, dishes, utensils).

Most of the big stuff kasi like tables, cabinets, appliances, etc. were already in the unit before we started moving in.

For the succeeding waves of bringing stuff, nandun na yung mga extra stuff like decors change of sheets/towels, etc.
I don't know how many waves it took haha! I didn't have time to sort and put in boxes kasi so I just get whatever I see that I need. I have a lot of stuff pa sa house that I will have to dispose.

We had the cable/internet/phone transferred to our unit even before moving in. I think 2 weeks before.

^Mas easier diba! Especially when moving around the house. Like me, I live in a condo and konting clutter lang an sikip agad...

Total declutter talaga yung kailangan gawin tapos each item/appliance was chosen to fit the unit. Like the bed has drawers para dual purpose. Then the rest of our things, space-saving. Mga kitchen appliance naman eh cute version haha di kasya kung yung regular-sized ones ::) Unless you have a really big condo, you can't just buy the normal things you find in stores.

Overall, this made us have a minimalist living. Kung ano lang yung kailangan at talagang gagamitin on a regular basis, yun lang yung mga gamit ;)

Yes sis!

If you're moving into a large home, it would be useful to be super organized and list and label everything, pero kung mejo maliit lang naman, like a one bedroom, or even a two bedroom, wag mo na pahirapan sarili mo. Kami we just grouped everything, like appliances in one box, towels and linens in another, and put our clothes in travel luggages, and dumped everything else in other containers.

If you're living in a condo and have car parking, apply for your condo sticker before you start hauling your stuff para less hassle magbitbit ng gamit. We forgot about it, and had to use the public parking space the first time we lugged our things. Hassle!

We made a general cleaning of the entire unit before we placed the appliances and the furniture. Inuna namin pina deliver yung mga big furniture and appliances para wala munang maraming gamit sa bahay while there were delivery guys going in and out of the unit. Next na dinala namin yung mga little things like linen, dinnerware, small appliances. We kept the appliances na naka plastic pa, para di madumihan while we were not yet done moving in. We only took out the plastic nung gagamitin na talaga namin.

We applied for cable right after the TV was delivered and installed para may cable na before we moved in. We have mobile wifi kaya we moved in kahit wala pang home internet. May mga konting pinadagag pa kami after we moved in, like the ceiling fan and the window shades, but basically everything was more or less set when we moved in. Decor was the very last thing we did hehe. Minimalist lang din kami, as we both don't like clutter.

Up natin yun thread.

Lilipat kami sa new apartment on May 31, pero May 23 start na kami magpadeliver ng gamit. Ang worry ko wala pa muna titira dun sa bahay. Okay lang naman siguro na mauna na mga gamit diba? Like our sisses did here.

Gayahin ko na yun big stuff muna before the small stuff. Maiiwan naman muna yun ibang things ko sa bahay namin.

We just moved in to our new place. Di ko na-foresee na may truck ban nga pala. Kailangan within the allowed lang sila magdeliver.

^^ we jus transferred a month ago. Nag up na kasi yung rent namin and ayaw na namin magbayad ng additional sa rent so we transferred everything sa new house. Ang ginawa namin my brother in law bought boxes for our stuff then yung mga kayang isakay sa car inunti unti namin. Best talaga if prior to move label all your boxes para di magkalituhan kung ano ano nakalagay and if you have plastic boxes better kasi mas makikita mo kung ano yung nasa loob.

Samin din nauna namin dalhin yung gamit bago kami talaga lumipat since almost patapos na yung mga finishing sa bahay and cabinets nalang ang kulang nilipat na namin lahat ng gamit sa new house. Prior to house construction my mom cleanse the place and prior to our move eh mag ccleanse ulit kami ni hubby. Yung big items namin like ref, cabinets and washing machine, we rented a truck to move them to our new house. Mahirap lang talaga mag lipat especially if both kayo may work. Thankfully I have in-laws who helped us on packing stuff and moving stuff

Label EVERYTHING.

While packing, purge items you do not need/use/want and donate, sell or give away.

Store books in small boxes so they'll be easier to carry.

Use large garbage bags for clothes. You can actually pack them, hangers and all, so you could hang them directly in your new home.

Pack a separate bag/box with essentials like bath items, bedding, medicines (especially Salonpas and Alaxan. hehe...), and food. Once you've moved, make sure that your bathroom and bed are ready because after a long day moving, taking a bath and sleeping in your own sheets makes the new place feel more like home. Alternative to food is scouting a place nearby to eat or deliver because you could be too tired to cook.
