^ Thanks! I had no idea what it was. When I saw this thread, I started thinking about things that I don't know how to say in Tagalog.

And because like I said, I have been thinking... is it acceptable to say that Diapers are equivalent to Lampin or it's not it?

I think diaper is the synthethic one, yung lampin is the cloth used way before when diaper is not yet available.
but maybe you can say that

^ Yeah. Agree. Not entirely the same, but oh well. And another thought I had in mind, I don't think there is ever a Tagalog term for Dragons, Dinosaurs & Unicorns.

hmmm... I can't think of any tagalog word for those haha,, maybe they're part of the ones na in Filipino tinetake as is. I mean no direct tagalog trasnlation of the word. Or maybe may tagalog word yan di lang kilala or usual na ginagamit..


Come to think of it sa school library namin before there's this UP Diksyunaryong Pilipino that has all the tagalog words for many english words even tagalog words na "hiram" or the ones we read and write like their corresponding english word.

^^ I think cake nga is 'keyk' in Tagalog. Parang dragon na nagiging 'dra-gon' (with the tone na pabagsak for the gon part). Except that dinosaur and unicorn still remain a mystery... And I suddenly thought, wala ding Tagalog for Roller Coaster

According sa answers.com ang tagalog ng Roller Coaster is Sasakyang Rodilyo. But IMO, rodilyo is a borrowed word ni spanish, which means "roller". So technically, wala pa rin tagalog term.  But in our Filipino subjects, borrowed word is acceptable. Even kuryente is not really a tagalog word according to Bob Ong. Hehe.

^ That is an interesting discovery. I have always been a fan of the languages, so it does help my head a lot whenever I think of words that I can't seem to express locally.

Walang tagalog ang dinosaur, dragons or unicorns kasi wala naman sila sa kultura natin. Kung baga, lahat ng sinaunang termino (traditional Filipino) ibinase sa pamumuhay ng mga tao noon. Kaya nga wala ring cake, kasi wala namang nagbabake ng cake noon. Pero merong kakanin, bibingka, suman, atbp. Halos karamihan narin sa mga salitang ginagamit natin ngayon, localized nalang. O kundi naman e hiram lang din na salita. E.g cake=keyk (american), computer=kompyuter, and problemo=problema (spanish), etc.. Katulad ng sa mga japanese, a significant part of their language, the katakana, is foreign derived. E.g cake=keiki, sugar=suga, computer=kompyuta.
