Confirmed with Philequity di na kasama yung bata for Skype interview pag ITF account. I only have copies from the local civil registrat. Out of shares daw MF nila ngayon, ang galling ah. Waiting pa sila ng approval ng SEC for new shares. Clarify ko pag nagka time.  Di pala ganun kadaling mag open, no. Nung sa FAMI kasi few years ago call lang, email and fax, padala original forms then okay na. Ayoko namang mag FAMI ngayon kasi di maganda feedback sa performance. Ano pa bang  good performing MF na pwedeng ITF account and less hassle sa requirements and procedure of opening.

Again, never choose a fund based on its NAV. In fact, don't even look at it, don't even consider it. It is irrelevant.

Just look at this year's top performing equity mutual funds. What's number 1? ALFM Growth Fund at 10.39% return year-to-date. What is its current NAV? 286.24.

Compare that with the worst performing fund, which is ATRKE Alpha Opportunity Fund. Its NAV looks cheap at 1.5627, but what is its return? A negative -6.05%.

So which one would you go for between these two, the "expensive" fund at 200+ or the "cheap" fund at 1.5? It's a no brainer.

Hello sisses! Question lang.

I have a SunLife account but I used my maiden name when I opened it. Do you know what are the requirements for me to change it to my married name? TIA!

^ Sis merong tinatawag na "Name Change Request" Form. The link is accessible only to agents pero I can send you a PDF copy.

You may also call 849-9888 para you can ask more questions

Be ready with your Investment account number.

Can you suggest kung ano mas ok ang performance dito?

Ano po mas recommended nyo 2 equity or 1 equity and 1 conservative?

^Both funds are invested in the Philippine Stock Exchange. The index fund is supposedly not actively managed and it's just an exact mirror of the stocks in the index. Since the PSEi is in a bull run, the index fund is doing well.

The equity fund is actively managed, and the fund managers can be more invested in a stock that they think will outperform the index. So far, they haven't picked a stock like that yet, but we are just barely out of the first quarter of the year.

Another reason is because Philequity's index fund is a lot smaller than their gargantuan Philequity Fund, which is a 10-15 billion peso fund. It's a lot easier to get big returns on a smaller amount of money than it is on a bigger amount.

I myself wanted to invest in Philequity's index fund before, but their 5% sales load was ridiculously high for a not-actively-managed fund. They have since lowered it to 3.5%, but that's still too high for something that just mirrors the index. I could do the same thing myself at my stockbroker's -- just basically copy everything here in the PSE indices composition -- and I only have to pay 0.25% in fees.

^thanks for the clarification, sis!

another question: ang fee na 3.5%, every top up ba yon? or entry fee lang?

You pay every time you invest.
And the 3.5% fee is at the lowest tier,
as you accumulate more shares, the fees
get smaller.

@ ikaela,

Did you mean that literally? That's one big chunk of change
if you want to keep the 0.25% fee per transaction and keep
the percentages.

^That is true, you do have to have 240,000 minimum (8,000 to invest in each of the 30 PSE-listed companies) to keep the fees low if you're just going to literally copy the index.

But of course, if all you want to do is track the index, it makes more sense to buy a true low-cost index fund like the FMETF.

But even that is being contested. The Faceless Trader has this very informative blog post about the true cost of index funds, and whether it's really better advice to invest in index funds or an actively managed fund like the Philequity Fund.

re: sales load fee

is it better to pool my money first before ko ipang top up? para mas maliit na sales load fee.

im planning to top up weekly kasi. iniisip ko tuloy kung ipunin ko muna then monthly ko nalang ipasok.

^^Sis, my experience in FAMI was good naman, i mean the return is so far so good kasi halos 25% ang gain ko (i started 2011 yata).
