@pretty,

Fundamentally, there really is no difference.
Both are pooled funds and UITFs are offered
by banks and MFs are offered by investment
companies.

As a rule though, mutual funds have lower
investment amounts, higher fees, and
longer holding periods.

I personally think UITFs are a better deal than MFs
as you do not pay any sales load plus the fee for
managing the fund is usually lower compared to
MFs.

However, you do get an agent or financial advisors
as they like to call themselves when you go for MFs.
So, there is a good reason why you pay more with MFs.

With UITFs, you are essentially on your own..

Hope that helps..

^ohh. very well said sis! ganun pala yun. :)

may question ako pero OT... you mean by "With UITFs, you are essentially on your own.." ba eh meaning ako ang mamimili ng composition ng portfolio ko? O.o

back to the topic...i was informed na sa FAMI, starting and minimum amount is 5K. then obligado ba na 1k monthly o kahit kelan ko lang gusto? :)

Nope, what I meant by that is that the person you'll be
transacting with just takes your orders.(Though they
will sometimes say that the NAV is too high, don't invest
now, etc. Technically they are not qualified to do that)

MF agents or financial advisers will give out advise
as to what fund is the best for you considering your
goals and time frame and financial situation.
(Or so I've been told. I only got an MF once a long
long time ago and I can't remember if he did
that for me lol)

You can add to your investment as frequently as you like.
You are not obligated to add more regularly but it would
be a good idea to do so.

Anyways my question is if kunwari mag open ako ng account and invest 10k.. Can i just let it sit there for years? Or kelangan ba magdagdag? Tapos ano po ba yun mga fees? kelangan ko magbayad for that or kakaltas na lang ba yun sa account ko..and how much ba usually yun mga fees? Sensya na mga sis kung madami tanong😊 sana may mag enlighten sakin hehe

See my reply to pretty_B, you can let it sit there for years and you
are not obligated to add more to it if you don't want to.

Its not like a "plan"..its more like a time deposit. You're not
required to put in more money into a time deposit if you don't
want to right?

Most mutual funds have sales loads(Only Sunlife and BPI's ALFM
do not) and these are deducted outright from your investment. So,
if the minimum investment amount is 10k. You give 10k but it won't
be a whole 10k after the sales load is deducted.

Then there are management fees, these are fund level fees meaning
the fund as a whole pays the fees. So, when you see the NAVPS that's
already net of all taxes and fees.

If i have 50K na ilalaan sa MF for the 6months (after that top up na depende sa budget), is it better na iinvest ko na ng one time yung 50K or ichop-chop ko siya for 6months?

This is true. I left 100K in Sunlife MF and haven't touched it for mga 3 years now...no effort, no nothing, it's grown to 137K the last time I checked (although of course it caries with the NAVPS). Saang bangko ka makakaita ng ganyang interest, mga sis?

marssie, it's better to invest it in increments, especially if you'll be investing an equity fund. Equities are toppish now and could either drop or go further up. It's best to have money when it drops so you can buy more, or average up if it goes up.

question po sissies. :) i'm planning to open a philequity account for siblings (17 and 13 years old), how do i make sure that their application will be approved? if ever i will be the principal owner (for now kase minors pa sila), will it be possible to update their accounts in the future para sila maging principal owner?

I actually like UITFs over MFs. I don't mind the lack of advice/guidance.  ;)
