@michipoo - yeah Minor lang naman ang Batolusong pero syempre since new ka lang sa hiking, mahihirapan ka talaga. :)

Hi everyone!

I joined GT because I'll be getting married soon so currently active ako sa mga engagement and wedding threads. I accidentally came across this thread lang. Just wanted to join in the conversations cause I'm also an avid hiker and lakwatsera. :D ;) I've been climbing mountains since 2012. I remember I joined a mountaineering group and enlisted for their BMC dahil broken hearted ako nun at nghahanap ako ng bagong magagawa haha. It was one of the best decisions I ever made now that I think about it. ;D Anyway, be safe and of course don't forget applying the LNT principle when you climb! Happy hiking everyone!  :D

I just had my first hike last Saturday (Apr. 9, 2016) at Mt. Pico de Loro. It was really a tough climb, I thought the trails would be easy but its not. Especially sa pag akyat sa summit, its really steep and madulas since sobrang init at dry ang sand. Im just so happy I made it to the top! Haha. Nakaka proud lang talaga na naakyat ko sya. I can still remember when I was climbing to the summit, my knees are already shaking sa takot, alam mo yun isang maling step lang gugulong ka talaga pababa.

Hi @unsophisticatedme! We were also there last Saturday! Hehe. Ang saya diba congrats on your first hike! The current trail sa Pico de Loro is actually a new one, which was on my experience much harder compared to the old one na closed na.  It was my 3rd time to climb it. The first one was overnight and it was so much different back then considering last 2013 lang yun, iisa palang tindahan nun sa campsite unlike now. If you're serious sa paghihike I suggest you invest on a good trekking pole malaking tulong sya pra di ka mabilis mapagod and advantage din sya sa mga steep trails pra may pambalance ka lalo na kapag pababa na.  ;)

IMHO mas madali yung new trail ng pico as compared to the closed old trail. The old trail takes longer as compared dun sa ngayon na mas maikli and hindi technical ang trail.

Sakin nman ang pgkakaintindi ko sa more "technical na trail" mas rugged sya, a trail that would require you to scramble and hold on to things like branches, roots and rocks. A trail na hindi ka basta basta mkakatakbo ng dirediretso dahil mas makitid sya and that's the new trail for me. The old trail is wider and more smooth and mas marami syang leveled na lupa and if i remember right, may flat clearing pa sya na malawak na meron mga tindahan tska restrooms before. In terms of kung ano mas mabilis paakyat, the new trail does takes you there faster kasi mas straightforward yung ascent at descent nya but then depende pa rin sa pacing mo.. :)

Sis @Ziyi nakakatuwa andon ka din pala. Haha. What time kayo umakyat? Kami 8am nakarating kami campsite mga 10am. Ang saya talaga mag hike, at least may activity na ko pagkakaabalahan. I plan to invest sa trekking shoes. Yung shoes ko kasi as in rubber shoes lang kaya madulas dulas ako sa pag akyat sa summit. Actullay na invite lang ako na gawin yung activity na yun, eh open naman ako sa mga adventure, ayun triny ko and I never regret it. :)

Mga 10am na kami umakyat. We were 17 people in total. Nagtune-up climb kami para sa Mt. Amuyao climb namin this weekend. :) Yes sis you need to invest in good trekking shoes din kailangan kasi may traction yung sole pra iwas tapilok at dulas sa trail. First trek shoes ko Merrell, sale ko nabili sa Robinson's Pioneer then next bumili nko ng medyo mamahalin TNF then Columbia. Masaya talaga maghike nakakachallenge.  :D

Haha. True sobrang nakaka challenge pag akyat ng bundok. Gusto ko naman akyatin yung may sea of clouds. :)
