Pentaxim

Hi mga sis,
     Good morning, i'll go straight to the point mga sis i want to ask if you guys encountered the same thing and what did you do to overcome.
     I have a son who's 4month old now, he was born by normal delivery and very healthy, unfortunately wala akong breastmilk super konti lang so from the start mix feed sha and then after 3 weeks exclusive formula na sha but no issue his gaining weight and very chubby baby.
     My problem started when he was 2 month old nagpavaccine kame ng pentaxim 1st shot nya after 3 days biglang ayaw na nya magdede force feed na kame [textspeak!] 2oz hirap na sha ubusin unlike before na 3oz straight nya kulang pa. At first hindi ko inisip na it was because of pentaxim so i consulted pedia gastro he was treated for reflux but it didn't help i consulted another pedia gastro and just advise us to continue what we are doing since hindi naman sha dehydrated, we also tried different formula, nipples but nothing helps. hindi naman [textspeak!] nila makikita ang problem unless iscope si baby but they dont advise since hnde naman c baby dehydrated tlaga and its very invasive procedure. so from then on force feed kame lagi most of the time tulog sha pag nagdede stress [textspeak!] kame ng yaya nya but we have no choice we need to nourish him by all means. after 1.5 months unti unti naging ok na sha nakakastraight na sha ng 4oz so mejo nagiging ok na.
       Here comes the 2nd shot of pentaxim, since hinde ko naman sure na it was because of pentaxim the first time, nagpasecond shot na kame last friday. Same thing is happening now ayaw na naman nya magdede he cannot finish 2oz na its been 6hrs after his last feed tapos less than 2oz lang dedehin nya. Hindi ko na alam gagawin if i go to pedia again they'll say na its very unlikely na its because of the vaccine and they will just told me to continue what im doing since hnde naman sha dehydrated. But it is very upsetting seeing that my baby is hungry but dont want to drink his milk, pag water dinedede naman nya and pacifier pero pag naramdaman nya na milk ayaw nya iiyak na and magwawala. Please advise if any of you moms encountered the same thing. Thanks.

Is there any other reaction than not wanting to drink his milk? Fever? Rashes? Irritable? Does his appetite come back after a few days?

Could it be that "force feeding" him is actually putting him off? Is he purely on formula now? How about changing the formula?

May iba na ba sya bakuna aside from pentaxim?iniisip ko lang baka kasi nawawalan ng gana because masakit yung injection site (may injection kasi na weeks na nakalipas,bigat pa din sa pakiramdam).you can ask your pedia kung cold or hot compress dapat sa injection.nalimutan ko na kasi.baka makatulong..

With pentaxim and other 5 in 1 vaccines containing DPT, Polio and H. Influenza type b, fussiness and loss of appetite may arise around 48 hours post vaccination but usually goes away after 24 to 72 hours. If it is due to pentaxim, it will not last for 1 1/2 months.
Pwede kasing it started out as a side effect due to pentaxim but was aggravated and prolonged by the forced feeding. I know it seems frustrating to see your baby not feeding, but by experience, force feeding causes more problems than good. Nawawalan kasi ng cue ang baby for appetite or hunger and he may refuse feedings later on. It is better to feed per demand rather than to force a child who is not hungry or who has lost his cue to be hungry to feed. He shouldn't be drinking water, too at 4 months kahit na formula fed siya. Water should only be introduced at 6 months of age when the baby starts solid feeding.

I suggest that you bring up this concern with your pedia. Baka pwede ka humingi ng another pedia gastro referral na tutulong sa iyo to refine your feeding techniques. Please think of your pedia as your ally rather than someone you cannot trust. Doctors are here to help patients, not bring harm.
