Allergic sa food and remedy
« on: February 03, 2014, 02:57:02 pm »

^ How old is your baby?  I purposely did not give my children eggs, chicken and highly allergenic food before they turned 1 year old.

Re allergy sa squash, it is indeed good for the baby but don't you think it's counter-productive to give it then make the baby take anti-allergy medicine (drug pa rin ang Alnix) afterwards?  Baka best to wait until baby is older to re-introduce squash.

hi Sis, 8months ang baby ko now when I fed him egg yolk, tas maya maya namula n buong mukha at leeg nya. pero yung squash at 6mos siya that time then di ko na lang inulit pakainin siya nun. yung egg yolk (hard boiled) was part of the menu na nasa list na galling sa pedia nya.

If your child developed an allergic reaction to any type of food, then the best thing to do is to avoid the food from thereon. Do not re-introduce without a go signal from your pedia or your allergologist. It is also not advisable to give anti-histamines prior to eating the food trigger (like some adults do just to be able to eat the food trigger) as this may just mask or delay the onset of allergic reactions. If you are allergic to the food, you will develop symptoms every time you eat that particular food, even if you took an anti-histamine prior to eating.
Even a small amount can trigger an allergic reaction so you should also not be introducing little amounts to your baby.
By the way, egg white is more allergenic compared to egg yolk which is why egg yolk may be introduced earlier than egg white. If you are allergic to egg white, it doesn't mean that you are allergic to egg yolk or to chicken. Those 3 food types have different allergenic proteins.
Some food allergies may be outgrown so the best thing to do is to avoid giving the food triggers so that proper re-challenge may be done later on. Allergy to shellfish, fish, peanuts and tree nuts, however, are life long.
When starting solid food introduction, it would be best to ask your pedia what food to give and avoid, what possible reactions to expect (rashes, loose stools, constipation/bloating) and what to do in case an allergic reaction occurs. Medications should only be given upon the advise of your pedia since dosages vary and are computed based on weight and not age.

^ If you have a family history of allergies (skin asthma/atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis or asthma), egg yolk should only be introduced by 10 months of age while egg white introduction should be delayed till 2 years of age. Egg white is the number 2 cause of food allergies in children less than 2 years of age. Cow's milk is the number 1 cause.
