To answer everyone's question/FAQs:
Salary range of Medical Coders:
It depends on your experience and certification. Meaning: Kahit may certification ka, if you don't have medical coding experience, you will not get big salary... YET. gain more experience muna. Salary range for unexperienced/unlicensed as low as 13k to as high as 22k.. I would say na sa licensed but no experience it would be mga 20k-25k.. companies give credit din naman na licensed ka na. Once you get experience and licensed or certified ka na, you'll be eyeing for 30-60k basic salary on top pa mga incentives and allowances. Of course, depends again sa experience and sa need ng company for coders. DISCLAIMER: Wag muna manglaki mata okay?
Range yan: I started at 17k>22k>33k (Certified na ako when i got 33k)>36k>43k>50k (3years coder here).
Required ba na Nurse?:
Personally I would say yes. But you can still try. Basically what we do is we read patient's charts and we analyze them if they are well supported/active/established/principal diagnosis/secondary diagnosis lang then we give them codes for reimbursement and statistics purposes. I have an office mate na P.T. before, and mejo nahirapan sya mag cope up. Meron din naman na Med Tech, pero she was able to perform very well. Depende din siguro sa analyzation skills mo and sa galing mo sa pagresearch.
Bakit mahal ang training?:
It includes the books (3 books yun ICD, HCPCS, CPT) all 3 books siguro around 5k php (not sure)
It includes the exam itself: 325$
And syempre yung bayad pa sa training center.
this is for CPC okay (under ng AAPC) CCS (Under ng AHIMA) is different; I have no IDEA.
Kaya ba ng self study?
Kaya naman siguro if may experience ka na sa coding.. if wala, baka mabaliw ka. hahaha lalo na sa CPT, pero malay mo naman super talino mo, baka kayanin mo.
Which is better HCBI or Teledevelopment?
Mas madami ako kilala na nakapasa from HCBI. Wala pa ako nameet from Teledevelopment.. and ang alam ko ang HCBI din ang nagproproctor ng exam dito sa Pinas (unless the company will fly in someone from AAPC/US to proctor the exam for its employees)
Which Company is GOOD?
Depende naman sa empleyado kung pano nya titingnana ang nageempleyo sa kanya. And of course may mga benefits na meron si company A pero wala si Company B, C and D and vice versa.
I would suggest to look for this basics to consider:

>HMO/Healthcard: May company na libre 2 dependents may company na wala. May company na libre nga 2 dependents mo, pero after 6 months mo pa saka mo maeenrol. Look for a company na Day 1 mo pa lang sa work, covered na ang dependents and libre pa.

>Allowance
>Performance Incentives

I would say that Medical Coding is my career na. It's very nice that this kind of opportunity opened up here in the Philippines. I am one of those Nurses na hirap na hirap humanap ng matinong trabaho before and I really cannot do volunteer jobs kasi wala naman trabaho na parents ko. Hindi ako nagsisisi na iniwan ko yung work ko before and took the risk to explore this opportunity..
