Medical Coding/Billing training programs

ahh... medyo mahirap nga kung walang medical background.. need to start from scratch and hahanap ka ng pwede talaga magtrain sayo.. pag-aaralan pa ang basic anatomy and physiology..

@ginger01 we need to study the syllabus kung meron man haha self study keri naman iyon siguro. mahal din bayad sa exam ahaha
anatomy and physiology wala ba sa curriculum ng chemistry iyon?

^ not sure sis hehe.. i got the impression lang na pag non medical graduate/background, you have to study the anatomy and physiology, kasi sa medical transcription ganun eh, so i guess ganun din sa coding/billing since sa ICD may mga medical terms

Hi! I stumbled upon this medical coding / billing pero medyo malabo pa sa akin. Kaso parang naging interested ako nung may nabasa ako sa internet na pwedeng work from home ito. I'm just not sure if applicable siya sa Phils. Yun mga na mention UHG, EXL etc... Ano ba yun parang mga BPO / Call Centers? Ganun ba siya ka in-demand ngayon at ang mahal ng training fee? How much ba ang average going rate for this kind of job? After you graduate, what type of companies ang nag hire ng mga ganyan?

I think yung work at home applicable lang abroad like sa US. May mga kasabayan kasi ako magtraining sa coding na tiga US puro sila work at home. UHG and EXl are BPOs. In demand siya ngayon. Sa company ko ang dami nilang hinahire na coders. I think very minor lang yung factor ng pagiging in demand ng medical coding in relation sa taas ng training fee. US certification din kasi yun so mahal talaga dito satin. Kasama na ang books sa training fee. All books will come from US din. Kasama na rin yung payment for the exam itself. Pati membership fee kasama na rin dun sa fee. So, kaya ganun kamahal.

Wow ang mahal naman ng training fee! 

The company where I worked before sponsored our training . From US ang trainer and it was held at Galleria Suites for a week. We were given all the materials and certification afterwards. The company only spent around 7k per employee because the trainer required a certain amount of PF to train and of course yung venue is kung saan siya naka check in .

What baffles me is ang daming nag aapply sa company namin who have medical coding experience   or are working as medical coders .When I asked their salary ,hindi naman malaki  ( ranging from 12k -14k lang nga yung  iba) .Since we don't really need medical coders ,but claims processors, it's not really a plus kung may coding experience ang applicant because  coded na yung claims .

Beware lang po , baka empty promises lang yun malaki daw salary kaya ganon kamahal tuition . Better try to work sa mga HMO ( claims or medical department ) and you will learn how to code.  Ngayon pa lang kasi nag start Phils  to code and is already using ICD 10 . US is still at IDC9 and will shift to ICD 10 next year.

^Well , the reason that the training was compressed into just one week was our employees are claims examiners , most of were graduates of medical courses . I assure you that it's a complete training.

Of course ,it isn't as expensive dahil hindi naman pinagkakitaan ng company yung training dahil that is for the employees ( wala ding bond).

If 7k lang po kasi yung binayad ng company, kulang pa po yun pambayad sa certification exam. So, yung certificate niyo AAPC or AHIMA?

^^hi sis @snowberry mga magkano ang salary range ng medical claims processor dyan sa pinas? yan work ko dito sa uae pro balak ko na kasi sana umuwi. thanks!

^ I saw some BPO's offer from 18-20k if relevant ang experience  ( processing US claims) . So, yung mga umaabot na ng 3 yrs or more sa job nila mga 25 k. The last one I screened is a Team Lead and her salary 1s 35k plus other benefits. But ,if walang experience from 12-14k.  Managers get 40-100k depending on experience and degree / trainings, credentials  etc. 

Local HMO's  offer 10-12k if without experience .

^I see, thanks sis. May I know kung anong mga company to? may 4yrs experience naman ako kaso dito nga lang sa middle east.

Joining...interested din ako sa course na inoofer ng HCBI. I have no medical background. Pero gusto ko mag-take ng training to change career. I read na 4 weeks yung duration ng training. Hindi ba overwhelming ito para sa mga tulad ko na walang medical background?

^^^sa HCBI din ako nagtraining. 2-3 months pa training namin nun. may classmate din ako na business ang background. unfortunately, bumagsak sya sa CPC exam. hirap sya sa medical terms. tingin pa ng tingin sa dictionary. hindi rin nya alam anatomy.

mga sis, i saw a post that UHG is looking for people interested to be a CPC, malamang may bond hahaha anyways, kung hindi ko currently employed malamang nagsend na ko resume haha

Maghihire ulit ng fresh grads para itrain for CPC dito sa UHG. Wait lang kayo in the coming weeks. Di pa nilalabas ang ad. May bond syempre yun. Malamang, 2 years ulit. Update ko kayo.

Since hindi ako fresh grad, Mag self-study/refresh muna ako and syempre ipon for tuition so malamang next year na lang ako mag take ng exam.    

Pero exciting talaga yang medical coding for me. Haha

Sa UHG, may 2 account yung coding dun. Magkaiba offer nila. Chaka, depende din yun kung pumasok ka na may coding credential and/or experience ka na or wala pa.
