Do you have expectations sa relationship?  What happens when they are not met?

For example, you expect him to propose in 5 years time etc..

If you have Expectations, IMO, you must always be alert & objective -- so that you don't reach your Deadline only to be disappointed.

For example, you expect a marriage proposal in 5 years.  Pwes, be observant if along the way, he has CONCRETE plans to wed AND  to wed YOU.
To wed:  he saves, buys a lot/house/condo, observes friends' wedding choices & decisions, discusses a future of settling down, etc etc
To wed YOU:   he is faithful.  Period.  He makes plans considering your preferences.

But if he continues to prefer the life of a carousing, philandering single man --  Expect Nothing, to be Happy.
You can already foresee  before you use up 5 precious years that you won't get your dream proposal.

IMO, a woman can see where a relationship is headed, there are those little niggling Red Flags.  Kaya lang, a woman may choose to ignore the Red Flags due to over- or misplaced confidence ( "I can make him change for the better."  Hahahahaha).  Or due to stubbornness in refusing to read the writing on the wall (nagbubulag-bulagan).

So to answer your query:
YES, but of course! IMO, we all have  expectations of relationships (kahit na mga FUBUs may expectations.  "Hwag sana  mag expect ma-in love ako sa kanya."  "Sana ma-in love saken". "Hwag Sana kami mabuko ng GF/BF ko."  "Sana mabuko kami ng BF/GF nya para she/he has to choose. Sana he/she chooses me."   Etc etc etc).
What happens when the Expectations are not met?  Hahaha, Multiple Choice:   Anger, Bitterness, Revenge, Depression, Denial, Persistence, etc etc etc.

When i was younger i used to have lots of expectations sa bf ko. And yes if my bf fails, all im left with is disappointment and heartaches.

Now that im more mature, i learned not to expect anything. I work on myself being the best partner he can have, and whatever he does to respond to that is just bonus.

Siguro ako i learned to live one day at a time. Hindi naman sa walang plans, but whatever makes me happy at the moment, enjoy ko lang. Ang corny pero i actually believe that yolo. Hahaha

If there's anything I learned from all my past relationships, that is to never set expectations. Always hope (and pray) for the best and work on it but never expect too much of anything as the higher the expectations, the greater the disappointments.

yes i do....katulad ng i expect him to be faithful and know his limits sa fb....but unfortunately, dami ko nakita sa fb nya....since nadisappoint ako, i told him to give me so some space kasi hirap makarecover kapag sobrang pinagkatiwalaan mo...then i guess if i'm ready, we will try to make it up and make our relationship more exciting and more romantic. baka kasi nawawalan lang ng spark o excitement pag di na nami-meet yun expectation mo. sometimes you have to compromise and do your thing para maging maayos ninyo. pero kung wala talagang pagbabago, it's no longer your fault na.

When I was younger (heto na naman ako) and I was in my one and only relationship (BF naging hubby at naging ex hubby), I entered into a relationship na walang expectations. Wala lang, since I was in love. Sabi ko nalang ako mag-a-adjust o di kaya sa kanya, sya mag-a-adjust. Hanggang it came to a point na may hangganan din ang pagtitiis at pag-a-adjust ng isang tao.

Pero we never had discussions on the future expectations, what he likes and I like etc.  Poor communicator kasi yung tao, pati ako narin.

Now that I have a second life, I always believe in setting expectations right, even before the relationship starts.  Being mature adults, you would talk about things habang nasa get to know stage palang. What are his values, etc. Dun mo ma-g-gauge if the person is a potential partner na matitiis mo or not.  Then kapag nasa relationship na, I think it is unfair to have expectations WITHOUT a discussion with him. Hindi ba kapag nag expect ka, you have to align it with him if you are on the same page? And if it is not met, hindi ba kelangan mag usap kayo?  Mahirap mag expect ng out of the blue tapos iisipin mo mahuhulaan ng partner mo. You have to first communicate your expectations. At kapag na disappoint ka pa, then talk it out.

^ ideal situation: good communication.  Agree, it's best to discuss/put expectations on the table, so to speak.

But what if,  you aren't sure he won't think you're presumptuous -- that he may react thus:  "feelingera ka naman, ang layo na  iniisip mo.  Let's just play it by ear."  That would hurt.
So, for women in this situation where communication isn't that open/good --  better heed SIMANG's  advice: Be/become your best.      If things fall in place, fine. If not -- you won't feel a big time loss since you took good care of yourself, so you will have other options.

Hmmm... Maybe the only, and perhaps the safest, expectation I have is for the both of us to do our best to make our relationship work. Siguro the best time to sit down and talk is pag medyo matagal-tagal na kayo and lagpas na sa "getting a feel of each other" phase ng relationship. By then you should've at least gotten an idea if you both have the same end in mind.

^^ true, pano nga naman kung sinungaling sya, good communication nga pero di naman tumutupad.

But rightfully, ang hirap maghanap ng good communicator ah.  Especially for guys.  Kaya isa iyan sa criteria ko, he should be able to express himself well.  Otherwise, ayoko na makipagrelasyon.  I always believe that communication is one of the key aspects in maintaining and nurturing a relationship. Kaya pag hindi man lang maka complete ang guy ng sentence, or walang laman ang sinasabi or di nya magets sinasabi ko, naku, mahirap makipagrelasyon sa mga ganyan.

when I was younger and when we were just a new couple, I did have some expectations. and kapag hinde nangyayari yun, nakaka frustrate and nag-aaway lang kame.

But as we live everyday, hinde na siya nagiging idealistic. ang gusto ko na lang ngayon is communication, and regular yung pag iipon namen. whether it's for our upcoming wedding or yung ipon lang talaga for rainy days.

IMO, expectations are healthy.  But they have to be realistic. It shows how much you value yourself and it tells him that not everything will fly.

Most of the time, Expectations = Disappointments whether for relationships or other aspects in life when the ideal is just too far from the capability of either the partner or the couple together.

Relationships do take work and a lot of compromise.

I thought I haven't set any expectations in my current relationship. Little did I know that I have unconsciously set a few and now, it finally blew up right in my face . The disappointments kept coming after another and I came to the point wherein I just lost it. Not lost in like nabaliw pero I just lost it. Now I need time and space away from him to clear my head and do a little reflection if they were realistic expectations or not.

i thought everything is alright with our relationship. i thought its perfect. no expectations.
i thought what we all need is love. Hindi pala. Kala ko sex don't matter.
pero importante talaga pala ang sex sa isang relationship...ngayun hinahanap-hanap ko syo...:(

As much as possible, no expectations. Kung hindi talaga maiwasan, we talk about it and then we compensate.

With my current partner, the less I demand, the more he gives. I don't even ask for or expect anything from him, yet he always gives me everything and more.

Ideally, wala dapat expectations para walang disappointments. But then again, life is far from being ideal.

Ako, very basic lang expectation ko.. just communicate everyday para alam ko lang na buhay ka pa. Lol! Eh minsan napalya pa nga eh.. natural giyera yun pag ganun.  ;D
