I thought this time I'll get to work via oDesk full time pero it looks like gusto rin ng boss ko outside oDesk ang transaction after just a few days. I know bawal to pero what can I do? It looks like it's a good opportunity naman. Meron ba sainyong nakaexperience ng ganito?

May issue din ako regarding my broadband connection. He likes to do screen shares and parang sobrang slow ng connection ko for that. I have Sky Broadband and ang subscription namin 3Mbps unlimited pero ang nakukuha ko minsan as low as .06 download speed! Kumusta mga connection niyo and meron ba kayong marerecommend?

May mga kakilala ako na outside Odesk, yun lang dapat kilala mo na yung employer mo kasi wala kang habol kung di ka bayaran. Mag 2 years na ko sa employer ko, nung na "permanently limited" yung Paypal ko, tinanong ako ng employer ko kung may way ba na outside Odesk nalang para yung fees eh akin nalang din daw. Tempting pero umayaw ako, galit kasi yung isang ka-work ko sakin. Baka sumbong ako

With regards to fixed-priced projects, tayo bang mga contractors ang nagbabayad ng Odesk fees?
I just noticed nabawasan ng 10% yung bayad ng employer ko. $20 naging $18 na lang.
I checked my previous transactions/payments, di naman ganun dati sa past projects ko.

^ depends sa usapan niyo... kasi if you will notice, there will be a box for what you will receive and then the 10% charge for the client. Maybe you have entered the details in the wrong box.

Wow, good job on your initiative sis lanshop2010! I hope Team Bam does look further into the matter. Sadly kasi, the government is looking at online work as just another 'deep pocket' they can pull cash from through taxes. Nakakalimutan yata nilang tingnan maigi ang sitwasyon ng isang online freelancer - that it's faaaaar from being similar to employed individuals in the country. For one, we don't have security of tenure, hindi tayo na'reregular'. Wala tayong benefits. Wala tayong job security either. Walang black and white contract. Hindi covered ng Philippine labor law. It's not as 'simple' as they make it seem on the news. Are we numbering millions na nga in the country as the news report suggests? I don't know. Perhaps. But some of those may include those working in locally-based companies pero yung output, online. Their situation is different from those of us working on platforms like oDesk. So... it's hard to classify us so easily, especially in terms of paying taxes. Nakakalungkot isipin na bago pa nila naisip na bigyan tayo ng seguridad, na maprotektahan ang karapatan natin bilang manggagawa, inuna talaga nila yung 'magkano ba ang makukuha natin sa mga ito?' (taxes). Saklap lang.

Not to glamorize or make our jobs so 'all-important', pero the way the news showcases online jobs - para bang ang dali-dali nya, parang no-brainer. Na you just do this and that online, and voila, online job! Those of us here who are starting pa lang, and those who have been doing it for years, know enough to say na it's never thateasy. Yung pag put-up pa lang ng oDesk profile, e di hamak mas madaling mag-fill out ng biodata. Slightly nakakainsulto lang, like what they do with the call center industry, they make it seem like the work is so easy, when in fact - in reality, it's faaaar from being a walk in the park.

Kaya minsan makaka-encounter ka ng tao na interested mag-work online, you help them, give them as much instruction as you can, and they still end up saying "Ano ba yan ang hirap naman" or "Ano ba yan, ang komplikado naman", or "Ano ba yan ilang buwan na wala pa kong trabaho". Some of them approach it kasi with the notion na madali lang sya, na 'easy money' sya.

It looks exactly like the one I asked oDesk for when I applied for a Japan visa myself, so yes, pwede na i-print mo na lang yun. Dati kasi kailangan ko pa i-contact ang oDesk and wait for them to make that certificate.

Kailangan mo lang naman i-prove na you have the capacity to fund your trip, so I don't think a letter of permission to leave is necessary. Nung nag-apply ako, yung document ko lang is a bank certificate, and na-approve naman.

First time ko gumamit ng LFT last withdrawal. Sobrang convenient and no hassle. Wala nang ibang deductions besides the $0.99. Told my boss I wanted to stick with oDesk na lang. At least wala na kong problema.

I feel really lucky for landing that job. Sobrang understanding ng boss ko and the pay's pretty good considering. I'm earning almost the same as my old job, maybe even more. Kahit may schedule ako na night shift, during training lang naman. He's transitioning me to a more flexible schedule once I learn what I need to learn. I also told him I was pregnant 1 week in and he and his family (who all work on the business) seemed to be happy for me pa. Gets tough sometimes I fall asleep on the job. One time I fell asleep for 15 minutes! I made up my time na lang and they're not really strict naman. As long as I do my job and I'm there when they need be. I get PTO pa so whenever it gets boring or I need help pulling through a shift, I remind myself that I'm so blessed for this job to have fallen into my lap.

Re: people looking for online work and thinking na it's a no-brainer... think twice.

Most people think it is easy kasi sa bahay ka lang. You don't need to be in a corporate suit or business attire. You have full control of your time. You earn slightly (or more) than what you earn in your day job. At hindi ka na makikipagsiksikan sa MRT para makapasok or makauwi sa bahay. Pero hindi kasi nila nakikita kung paano yung process bago ka dumating to where you are right now sa trabaho mo online.

I started 2008 dahil dito ko nakita yung opportunity for oDesk. Inaral ko lahat ng mga manuals nila, nagbasa ako ng mga tutorials regarding mga possible work na pwede ko gawin (WordPress, MailChimp, Html, xHtml, Project Management, MSWord, MSExcel, etc.). Bago naman dumating tayong lahat kung nasan man tayong position, maraming pag-aaral na pinagdaanan. Maraming trial and error. Minsan, mabilis makahanap ng trabaho pero yung magiging client mo naman ay mahirap pakisamahan. Meron naman ibang client na mejo matagal mahanap at sobrang okay - yung parang blessing talaga.

Dahil sa sobrang busy or sa kagustuhan ng mabilis na pera, hindi na nakikita ng mga ibang tao ang mga pinagdadaanan natin. Kung gaano kahirap labanan ang katam (katamaran) o ang pagppraktis ng patience at lalong-lalo na ang pag-manage ng isang araw. 24 hours nga ang binigay sa atin kada araw pero kung papaano mo naman hahatiin yung oras para magawa mo lahat ng dapat ay hindi biro. Dapat disciplinado at dedicated ka sa trabaho mo sa oDesk at sa bahay. Naku, lalong mahirap na ito pag meron ka inaalagaang mga bata.

Kaya nga sa totoo lang, masmahirap pa ang online work kesa sa day job. Sa day job kasi pag tapos na ang 8 hours shift mo, eh di uuwi ka na ng bahay, magpapahinga. Sa online job naman, maraming instances na naipagpapaliban mo muna ito dahil sa mag-aalaga ng bata, may aasikasuhin, may tinatapos, naglilinis... tapos at the end of the day, doon mo pa lang hahabulin ang mga hindi mo natapos na trabaho.


Maganda talaga ang ginawa ni sis lanshop2010. Dapat i-consider muna ng BIR ang mga iba't ibang pinagdadaanan ng mga online workers bago patawan ng taxes ang kanilang mga earnings. At kung iimplement man ito, sana makatarungan kasi kailangan din naman nila i-consider ang cost ng online work: internet, electricity, at yung paguupgrade or pagbili ng mga kagamitan para masmapadali ang trabaho.

@ hayne22, how long have you been applying for projects in Odesk? And to answer your question, yes mahirap sya but don't give up  . Focus k lang sa goal mo  on " planning na rin mag resign kasi gusto ko matutukan anak ko sa pag laki."

Here are some tips that may help you :

1. Create an impressive Odesk Profile
2. When you apply for projects, make it a goal to apply at least 5 projects per day!Do it consistently for the next 7 days. That makes, minimum of 35 projects per week! Be hopeful, makakuha ka ng 5 interviews for the week, that's already a good start.
3. Aim to be part of the top 10 applicant. Normally, clients look at the top 10. If the project has more than 20 applicants, i suggest wag ka na mag apply nyan.
4. Pag nag apply ka abangan mo yung time na probably hapon ng time ni target client ..for example us client, I think that is around  2 am sa atin...Clients are busy on their morning so most of the time they post jobs sa afternoon...Try also to apply, mga 10 to 11 pm...

You need to be quick on this...kasi kapost pa  lang ni client...dami na agad in 5 mins (remember you are competing with freelancers all over the world )

5. Sa cover letter mo, wag nang maraming bulaklak, go straight to the point on how you can help your client. Basahin mo ng maigi ang job posting..sometimes there are tricky questions client may place on the job posting.

6. Join groups of mom, network with them, malay mo makakuha ka ng referral. 

7. Be patient.

Hello po. I just want to share my situation. Kasi member ako ng agency sa Odesk. Yung earnings ko hindi nagrereflect sa account ko. nung nagprint ako ng certificate of earnings di sya lumilitaw. I feel a bit unfair. Kasi hindi ako makakuha ng magandang credit standing gusto ko pa naman kumuha ng sasakyan sana this year. Pero imposible na yun nung nakita ko na hindi nagrereflect yung mga earnings ko when  I am under the agency. Any suggestions mga sis? TIA

^^Yung oDesk certificate of earnings mo pwede, plus your ITR. Gamitin mo na din yung documents mo from your previous work kasi sabi mo kakastart mo pa lang sa oDesk.

^What bank do you use to receive your earnings from freelancing? Ok if you use BPI because transfers are labeled as "payroll" and you can use your bank statement to show that you regularly receive money from this payroll. Baka may ganun din na feature ang ibang banks, though we need to ask our other sisses here about that.

i've started applying ulit sa odesk recently for extra income. medyo, mahirap maghanap ng work ngayon at ang daming competition at ang baba ng rate nila. haay... hopefully, makahanap ako ulit ng work.
