^^I try to achieve that balance, too, lalo na bulk of my work is writing, so my brain always has to be "on." Minsan, 'pag burnout or wala talagang nag-fo-form na sentences, I don't work on my writing jobs at all. Hirap na na pangit ang content, 'di ma-justify ang pag-increase ko ng rate. Hehe.

I started working just 15-20 hours a week, and how I miss those times. Eto hirap sa freelancing -- if you do a good job at work, you are rewarded with even more work. I always think of letting go of my other clients, and just focus on the ones outside of oDesk --  I can live on that income, working 10 hours per week. Now's not the time yet, though, the seeds I have planted in businesses and other investments have to bear fruit first.

^ Kasi they know may papatol sa mababang rate.  Nagh-hire ako sa Odesk for small and short tasks, ang pinka-mababang fixed rate offer is $5 yet yung candidates na nag-aapply will bid as low as $.20, usually taga Bangladesh and Pakistan. 
Based sa trend, pababa nga ang rate in the future for data entry jobs requiring no special skills.  Pero for other types of jobs, sa skills and experience na yun magkakatalo.

@gypske - Thank you sa advice sis. Oo, start nga din ako ng lower rates e. Para lang maka gain ng hours experienced, most of my projects kasi short time na fixed project. Ayun. Thank you!

@majika7777 - Nakaka inspired naman yun, sige, pag natapos na yung project ko din at wala pang work, I'll do some research para dun sa mga skills na gusto ko matutunan.. hehe! Okay, kasi di ko alam kung para san yung purpose ng agencies, yun pala may cut din sila sa income. Now I know. Thank's for letting me know.

@Yula - take it as experience na lang talaga. Clients like them e hindi worth it. Hanap na lang ulit ng iba.

@heavensent @ayanlanz - wow! ang gagaling nyo naman sis, I really admired those freelancer with thousands of hours already. Sana maging ganun din ako someday. Haha. Gusto ko na din kasi talaga maging full time homebased.

^ I agree with your sentiments sis. Unang try ko sa Odesk years ago, it's like $2-3 pinakamababang sweldo, pero ngayon, may nakikita akong mga contractors na $0.01... I told myself, di pa siguro makakabayad ng kuryente yung sweldo pag ganun yung rate.
So far pinakamababang inoofer ko if alam kong madali lang yung job is $1 per hour.

^^thanks po.  sipag at tiyaga lang ang katapat pag nagwowork sa online. I'm glad kasi mag-6yrs na akong gumagamit ng oDesk next month while 5yrs na me nagwowork sa mga bosses ko. may down at up moments talaga. kailangan lang mahanap yung motivation para maipagpatuloy ang trabaho sa kanila. 

^ganyan po ako up to now, secret pa rin ang work sa mga nagtatanong. pag ini-ask ako kung saan ako nagwowork, isasagot ko 'sa bahay lang ako'. iba-iba ang interpretation I'm sure. di ko kasi sila ma-encourage na i-try kasi baka iba ang outcome sa kanila. conservatism ika nga. pero yung mga nag-try na friends ko successful na rin kaya happy ako sa kanila.

^Haha, "secret" work. When I'm asked what I do, I say a variation of things: I'm a freelancer, I work from home, or also "sa bahay lang ako." When I say I'm a freelancer, usual interpretation diyan is unemployed ako, wala akong trabahong matino. Kapag work from home naman, completely ignore yan, and interpretation is wala akong ginagawa kaya kung ano-anong i-o-offer sa akin na networking, MLM, and scams. 'Pag sa bahay naman, I get an "aaah..." and they just ask about my kid. LOL. Kung alam lang nila. But I guess okay lang din, 'di ako nauutangan.

I only started spending some of my earnings after our wedding, and mas-grabe pa nga nung mga panahon na yun. Ngayon may nakikita na silang bunga, so medyo nag-taper na. Pero ang problema ko naman ngayon is proving that I have a proper source of income. Sabi ng husband ko, baka isipin daw ng mga tao nagbebenta ako ng drugs. Medyo uso kasi yun dito where I'm from.

^nyay grabe naman uso yan, buti sa amin hindi masyado uso ang ganyan ehe. ako naman sagot ko "I work online" medyo may mga tao narin na nakakaalam na may legit works online pero mas marami parin ang clueless dito. Pero pag si mama ang tinatanong kung anong trabaho ko, sagot nya "ay sa bahay lang yan, pero kumikita ng dollars" hehe nagmumukha tuloy may benefactor. Pero most people think that I'm unemployed or works at a BPO company (yun kasi previous work ko). I don't mind naman what others think, ayos na yung mga  importanteng tao sa buhay ang nakakalam at I know na nakakatulong din ako kahit paano..

Ako naman when people ask, sinasabi ko talaga na I work through oDesk, ang masaya nito mas madaming hindi aware tungkol sa oDesk, at kahit i-explain ko pa what it means to work from home, hindi talaga nila ma-gets. hehe.

I've helped a couple of people with oDesk, especially moms who want to work-from-home talaga. Nakaka-disappoint lang pag sila mismo, ang bilis mag-give up. Konting mahirapan, ayaw na. Magtatanong pa ng 'may trabaho ka ba dyan? may alam ka ba san puede magapply?', so I direct them to go through the job ads on oDesk and I just give them tips - e tinatamad, kulang na lang sa akin yun ipagawa. Ay pag ganun, hindi na ko sumasagot sa tanong nila. Ang tatanda nang tao hindi mag-tiyaga. Kaya whenever someone asks my help about oDesk, I always give them a 'warning' - I always tell them it's not going to be easy, you're going to have to work hard talaga, from building your profile, to job searches, to doing the actual work. Para hindi nila isipin na mag-sign up ka lang at yun na, may trabaho ka na. It's more about hard work than sheer luck really.

yung odesk sa isang classmate tapos grabeng encourage pa.
bukod diyan, maraming classmate ko nakacreate na din ng profile, (halos lahat, close kasi kami)
sa sem break marami na sila magstastart, ng dahil sa akin.
Grabeng encourage ko noon kasi, nung nalaman kung legit siya pagkatapos ko
withdraw.

bukod pa diyan, shinishare pa ng classmate ko sa mga kakilala nila.
like mga aunts nila, and iba pa.

MissChievous: Your most valid proof of income would be your ITR. Please head over to the how to get an ITR para sa mga homebased ang work? thread for more info.

As for certificate of employment, the equivalent of this is oDesk's certificate of earnings. You can just print out your transaction history, but if you need a more official-looking document, just contact oDesk support and ask for one. They usually provide it within a day or so. Or you could ask your client to draw up a certificate of employment, lalo na kung long-time client na siya.

Eto din problem ko noon, pero now I just use our BIR/DTI papers from our business. Minsan I use my married status, claim that I'm just a housewife, and just show them my husband's assets. Nakapangalan naman talaga sa kanya almost our property, pero lahat ng cash sa akin. Hehe.

^ Thanks sis ikaela. Are these documents accepted by the bank or government entities? Nag pre-prepare lang. I am convinced na to do freelance work by next year. Excited na pero konting kaba, pero I am definitely going to give it a try.
