Okay ang reviews sa Hobbit 2 a. I'll watch tom. Is there a big difference pag 2D lang from 3D and IMax? Laki rin kasi ng difference sa price e. I'll buy the Hobbit books.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - 10/10! bakit parang hindi tumatanda si Legolas!!!! papanoorin ko ulit, next time dapat mapanood ko muna ang Hobbit 1 para mas maintindihan ko. limot ko na kasi. LOL. sobrang bitin! Ganda ng fight scene dun sa may river. si She-elf ba ay in love kay Legolas or kay dwarf?

^Yes. She was not part of the books. Ginawa siya ni Peter Jackson para may female character sa movie. Pati yung si Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) wala din dapat sa second movie pero nilagay din para may babae sa movie.

The Hobbit : The Desolation of Smaug

The movie is a step-up from the first as it’s more enjoyable this time. But it still feels a little bloated because it’s just one book turned into three movies so there’s pacing issues. Peter Jackson tweaked the story a bit and added a female heroine. The book has mostly male characters and probably has too plain of a story to warrant a trilogy hence the changes.

Tauriel and Legolas are both not in the book, but their inclusion added action with their fight scenes although I don’t entirely dig the love angle. That fanfic between Kili and Tauriel felt forced and their scenes in the Lake-town could’ve been given to Beorn who had little screen time. We also see more of Legolas’ father, Elven King Thranduil who looks very regal but is indifferent to the outside world. And yes, Peter Jackson has a quick cameo, he opens the movie.

One highlight is the barrel scene that feels like a ride from a theme park. It’s the most hilarious and exciting part. Bilbo is too funny.  Though there were really no orcs and elves in that part in the book. Gandalf is almost absent and his adventures in Dol Guldur are elaborated. The Necromancer has quite a menacing voice. Luke Evans is fitting as Bard the Bowman. although there were some dragging parts, the Lake-town is how I imagined it to be.

Another great part is the titular character, Smaug, who is one chatty dragon.  The scene between him and Bilbo is prolonged and didn’t really stay true to the book, but the animation is awesome. It’s one reason to watch it on the big screen, to see Smaug in all his glory.

For Tolkien fans, Desolation of Smaug is another Middleearth journey that came to life. But non-readers can also enjoy it, just don’t bring kids as they might fall asleep.

The ending if very abrupt and one big WTF?! moment but it does make you eager for closure and watch the next. Still a great adventure film, can’t wait for There and Back again.
