"It used to be that a man’s pride was attached to his paycheck. In today’s more progressive times, does earning more(or less) than your significant other still matter?" Men interviewed for this article say it doesn't matter for them (really, now). >> http://www.manifesto.com.ph/women/does-it-matter-if-she-earns-more-you

How about the ladies?

I don't think it would be an issue if he is living within his means and does not rely on me for his daily needs.  Basta hindi sya isang kahig isang tuka, and kaya bumuhay ng pamilya, then I don't have any issues.

Money is not an issue
at all.
pero for big purchases like house and lot, cars, trips abroad, nag-uusap kami and i make sure
na may contribution sya sa lahat.

for me, hindi siya issue as long as it is managed accordingly. hindi ko rin pinapakialaman kung pano niya gamitin yon kasi i respect that it's his hard earned money. pero we save up, and he's the one who's taking care of that account.

may kakilala naman ako. the girl earns more than the guy din. ang kaso, they girl was kind of expecting pala that the guy will be the sole provider from the start kasi siya daw ang lalaki. e kaso hindi nag sky rocket ang career ng guy, instead e si girl ang umangat ng husto. now she treats him with no respect na after all the years. sad lang. may mga ganun palang girls/women  ::)

it's the natural order of things kasi and even if women say that it's ok if they earn more than the guy,
on a subconscious level...they would prefer if the guy was the one acting as "provider"
the woman would naturally lose respect for the guy because he's not fulfilling his role as a man, I also
because the man can't provide for the family.

^oh i see. well i guess i'm not included in the group of women who is under the "natural order of things". i feel sorry for those guys who were involved with these types. madalas kasi it's society or the culture we were brought up in wherein women would expect men to provide for them. for me kasi, i take pride with how i work hard and how i earn my money. maybe because of my experiences. kaya siguro kahit ano pa yung reason behind the earnings, wag lang katamaran ha, i would understand.

but nonetheless, kanya-kanya kasi yan e. siguro nakita ko lang yung value of respect without money involved with the family i grew up with. some men naman kasi, pag hindi earner yung girl, they look down naman to the women na parang they treat their partner as taong bahay lang talaga. oh well...  :)

i really don't care for as long as hindi sya baon sa utang and he doesn't make me feel like crap for earning more and that he's happy with his work. i think men are more touchy when it comes to career and money. it's practically encoded in their DNA that they have to provide and have a job they're proud of. a man who doesn't feel respected or in control typically tries to get the upper hand somewhere else. be it in the company of other women or violent fits or plain old misogyny. or he could pull some self-defeating s*it and drown us both.

bottomline, it's not an issue for me unless the other person decides otherwise.

If 5k or less lang naman difference ng sweldo namin, pwede pa siguro. Pero come to think of it, ako nga hindi satisfied sa sweldo ko, tapos mas maliit pa 'yung kanya, parang medyo off.  ;D

Anyway, I think it would work in the meantime.

Okay lang basta he wont take it against me.

but then again, men who earn more has more money for other women as well. tapos puedeng feeling hari sila if they earn well, as if they can do everything they want including womanizing and gambling.  so nasa pag uugali din ng guy.

may iba naman kahit mas maliit na-e-earn nya sa gf/wife nya, he still confident because he knows he is happy with his work and earns good money.

Ok lang sakin as long as hindi namn malaki yung difference. Kung kunwari half of what i earn prang mahirap yun.

siguro sis you meant na hindi sobrang below ang ine-earn nya such that he cannot even fend for a family.

kasi if you are earning say P300k/month and he earns P150k/month, it really does not matter.

i agree to this. dipende lang din sa situation talaga and the attitude towards each other, regardless of the earnings e.

it doesn't matter. kasi nangyayari na at the time you met, he's just getting there. iba't iba rin kasi ang sitwasyon ng bawat isa. sa karera naman kasi sa buhay, hindi naman lahat nagsisimula sa isang starting line eh  :)

pero very particular ako sa isang quality: ambition. kailangan nakikita ko to. and most of the time, kapag meron nito, in the long run, hindi na magiging issue ang earnings. unless artist siya or social worker or something. in which case, i will still be proud even when he earns crap. kasi bawing bawi naman sa outlook niya in life.

Kung hindi naman kalakihan yung difference, it doesn't matter, as long as he has a job. Mas mahirap yung walang trabaho.

Ang masasabi ko diyan, to each his own. :)

Sa ex-boyfriend ko kasi, I was earning as twice as much as he was. I was helping him out sa mga gastos. Okay lang naman sa'kin, tsaka alam ko naman na he was just starting out and has a great, laid-out career path. Kaso insecure siya, financially and intellectually. Tapos after a while yung pagtulong ko felt like a burden, tipong 2 months advanced na budgeting ang ginagawa ko kasi ako ang magbabayad sa ganito-ganyan for him, tipid-tipid talaga.

Now I'm seeing someone na stable na sa work and earns greater than I do. Sobrang laking difference, jusko. Hahaha. Pero I insist na KKB kami pag may dates kasi ayoko ng maulit yung before. I want to be financially independent.

So essentially, I prefer that the guy earns much greater than I do. May peace of mind ako that he can provide... pero gusto ko rin na I have my own money, magagastusan ko yung needs ko and I can contribute well pag magkasama na kami.

If the guy is earning less pero wala namang issue sa both parties, e di masaya. Pero I think it's natural din for the girl to look for a guy who can provide, siguro in an evolutionary perspective. And men tend to be sensitive about financial matters because of ego and the culture promoted by the patriarchal society.
