3-yr old kiddo in panic everytime the rain falls

Hi sissies.
I have a 3-year old niece... She's very active and makulit...
Our problem is, everytime na bumabagsak ng malakas ang ulan she's in panic... She's yelling, crying, and covering her ears with her hands... May ngatog pang kasama... As in makikita talaga sa itsura niya yung sobrang takot... Hindi siya tumitigil sa pagiyak hanggat hindi na mahina ang ulan...

BTW, she's living with us... And wala mom and dad niya... Nagstart siyang maging ganyan when she stayed in Singapore for a couple of months, she's turning 2 that time... Nagsimula siyang magpanic nang nakarinig ng malakas na thunderstorm dun... After nun, consistent na ang ganyang behavior kapag umuulan.

Is it NORMAL po ba? First-time-mom po kase ako and my son is 6 months old lang... kaya hindi ako alam ano ba dapat gawin kapag ganyan ang toddler...

May ganyang experience ba kayo sa mga kids niyo? What did you do? Naresolve ba?
Any advice po?

hi sis. my 4-yr old daughter is like that. she doesn't really panic pero she hates the sound of heavy rains at nagtatakip ng tenga. i can't remember when or how it started, basta pansin ko nalang ganun siya. i think constant reassurance lang na the rains are not gonna hurt them, or that they're safe, etc. just be there whenever the child is panicking. i think maa-outgrown din nila yan.

My daughter naman is afraid of the sound of thunder. Nagtatakip din sya ng tenga at nanginginig minsan sa takot. I just hug her and distract her with toys or books or we play games, and try to make her feel safe.

Maybe telling her about the rain, how it forms, and why it falls on the ground would help? My child loves her Adarna book Munting Patak-Ulan, and this video:

Maybe also teach her the rhyme, "Rain, rain go away..." so that she won't associate the rain with scary things.

Children (also adults) are usually fearful of the unknown, so maybe it would help if we could teach them that these are natural occurrences.

Thanks mga sis... Sinubukan ko siya yayain magbasa sa ulan para maassociate niya yung FUN sa rain... Kaso i failed  Hindi siya gumalaw sa pwesto niya at iyak lang ng iyak... I told her its like bathing using our shower... (Fave niya kase ang shower sa bathroom)... Pero wala talaga...

Niyayakap din namin siya kaso may time talaga na sa sobrang panic kayang kaya niya kaming ibalya, looks like adrenaline rush... Yung mga toys na malapit sa kanya hinahagis niya kung saan saan...

Sis chocol8junkie, sana nga mawala yung takot niya habang lumalaki siya... Nagaalala kase kami what if abutan ng malakas na ulan at nasa labas siya at hindi kami kasama (like sa playschool), baka magpanic, madisgracia... Wag naman sana...

^ Or can you ask someone at home to play in the rain or maligo talaga so she see it wouldn't hurt?

Phase lang yan eventually ma ge get over din nila pero just continue to let her feel safe and secure pag natatakot sya. dahan dahan lang

Medyo nagpeprepare na kami kase eto na naman ang bagyo... Sigurado iyakan blues na naman...

before din yun son takot na sya at tumatakbo sa room kapag umuulan ng malakas, ang ginawa namin niyaya namin sya maligo with his dad sa ulan yun mejo malayo sa house namin para hindi makakontra ang father in law ( kasi sasabihin non wag takutin ang bata at masyado pa daw sya maliit at 3y/o) kaya ginagawa ni husband sa mejo malayo sila nagplay sa ulan then in-explain din namin sa kanya na need din ng mga plants and trees na kumain ng snack if hapon ang ulan ( depends on time of rain) kasi magugutom sila like us, paulit ulit namin sinasabi sa kanya yun whenever magbabadya ang ulan, hanggang sa hindi na nya pinapansin kahit gano pang kalakas ang ulan...

Were abroad and its not usual to see people playing in the rain but my 5 years old have done it thrice (before she turned 5) locals have seen her at naamaze sila. is it cold? you're not afraid? You like the rain? tanong ng tanong. try nyo kaya saya! hahaha.

then i give her heads up na sometimes may kulog at kidlat, so pag may ganun nagugulat sya tatakbo sa akin then pag wala ng balik ulit sa ulan. 5-10 mins of fun would do masabi ko lang na nagawa nya rin sa buhay nya ang ginawa ko sa pinas.
