Germany .. Any Inputs?

Missus O: Thanks so so much for the tips!!!! Since we are going to be doing several trips out of Berlin, would finding a hotel at the train station be a good choice for us?

Oh my I would love to take the walking tours! And thank you also for suggesting places we can visit from Berlin.

Right now here is what I am thinking of doing for our Germany portion of the trip:

1. Berlin- 4N - fly in from Dubrovnik
2. Bremen- 1N
3. Hamburg- 2N --fly out from Hamburg to Reykjavik

Now that I am looking at all these options, I am worried I might not have enough time to really see Berlin. I really want to do a city tour, and on my bucket list is to see the Gate of Ishtar at the Pergamon Museum. Can I see all that in 2 days? I want to spend 1 day in Potsdam and 1 day in Dresden.

BTW some people say Dresden needs at least an overnight. You think a day trip there from Berlin will be OK? Thank you!

can i use my Philippine passport to drive in munich? will it be a simple process to rent a car like in the US?

^yes you can use your PH license. And yes easy and simple to rent a car there. If you're sure of your rental dates better to book online in advance para sure you have a car. We've tried Avis and Europcar though we prefer the former best.

^i mean license. cool! planning to visit munich for the 1st time... and do a day trip to fussen and visit N'stein castle. the drive from munich to fussen should be wonderful. thanks!

^agree the drive is great! If you have more time I would suggest to do the Romantic Road Tour. You can do the whole drive in 4-5 days from Munich up to Wurzburg (an hour away from Frankfurt). We did the tour in 5 days but starting from Frankfurt down to Munich where we celebrated Oktoberfest. Spent a night in Wurzburg, couple of nights in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, then another night in Fussen. It was a fun trip!

where should we be "based" if we do the romantic road? our plan is to make munich our 'base' and just do day trips to sites like N'stein, Salzburg and Rothenberg

^It's a bit far to do Rothenburg OD Tauber as a day trip from Munich since the drive is a little less than 3 hours away even on the autobahn. It's doable but for me a bit tiring plus there's so much to see in the town you'll want to stay at least overnight. Then there's the Night Watchman tour in the evening which to me is a must if you want to learn more about the town's history. Plus the guy who does the tour is really funny and engaging.

Munich to Füssen then to the village of Hohenschwangau where Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles are located is a two-hour drive away. Probably this one you can do as a day trip since the highlights would just be the two castles. And the town's really small so an hour there would be enough.

Have you booked your tickets already? Maybe you can do an open jaw routing? Fly in to Frankfurt then work your way down to Munich via the Romantic Road tour. Then fly out from Salzburg. I did a few blog posts on our trip to Germany, you might want to check it out.

Gusto ko sana magtour sa germany and this will be my first time sa Europe. Currently in Japan and dito na ako mag aapply ng visa. What is your recommended site to get a health insurance? I'm searching the net and not sure what to get. I plan to stay at my aunt's place near frankfurt. Any ideas where I should go as first timer?

Planning to visit Cologne, Munich and Berlin. Frankfurt will be my based to visit my aunt. I found out while backreading wala masyadong exciting place na pwedeng puntahan unlike Italy.

^well really depends on what you find exciting My husband and I enjoyed Germany a lot! Still so many places to see and things to do. Planning to go back there in the near future.

It?s Christmas Market time again Germany and EU. We?re going to the Aachen one in a week?s time. Yey!  I love Germany and its people.Though as much as I  enjoyed the big cities (Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Munchen, Dussie)  my all-time favorite in Germany are the small but picturesque towns such as Cochem and Koblenz.

Sissies, ask ko lang if you buy prepaid sim card in Airport? And applicable ba sya to all schengen states without additional charge?

Also, I'll be staying for 1 night at Frankfurt, I'm curious of the green sauce, which restaurant will you recommend that I should go to? Solo traveller here.

^for the prepaid simcard, it depends on telecom and plan that you will choose. There are some which is limited for a number of countries. I chose Lyca mobile last October and paid for 20 euros I guess good for Italy, Paris, Switzerland  - 1g or 2g (forgot the exact data size) and unlimited data in Germany. Ask the sales staff which one is good and don't forget to bring your passport when you buy simcard.

^ I'm arriving in Schoenefeld Airport.  Did you compare the price of the sim card in the airport & outside?  Nabasa ko kasi sa tripadvisor mas mahal sa airport.  Although the thread i read on TA is dated 2016.
