Cataract in baby

Hello mga sis, my niece who is 4 months old has been diagnosed with cataract on her right eye. I need help ladies, kung may masuggest kayo na doctor and hospital. Any idea ano cost ng cataract surgery for baby? TIA

I can't suggest a doctor since nasa Cebu ako. But, I have an idea how much it costs here sa Cebu. Per eye is around P60k - P75k. Maybe mas cheaper jan sa location mo. My son has bilateral cataracts, his surgery is still waiting pa kasi he has to go through PDA Ligation first.

For your niece, I would suggest to have it operated within the year as it is a critical phase of a baby's development. Good thing that she still has one good eye for her to be able to develop her vision.

thank you for your reply sis. Suggestion nga ng doctor dapat daw before mag 6 months old. Medyo mahirap magresearch ng ganitong case sa Pinas. Wala ako nababasa sa mga local forums about her case.

^ Have you tried going to Dr. Alvina Pauline Santiago? She is a pediatric ophthalmologist from PGH and holds clinic at St. Luke's and Manila doctors hospital. Sorry I don't have any idea as to the cost but I agree, it is better to have it operated early on so as not to affect her development.

Yes, walang problema if 6months pa siya to undergo the cataract surgery. I'm guessing that they will patch her good eye so her brain would be forced to use the other eye thus it will develop her vision at that eye. The problem kasi is when the brain chooses the good eye instead and the other eye would end up becoming a "lazy eye" where clear vision could not be attained anymore.

I've been looking for a forum din of the same concern but I haven't seen any, locally. But I'm sure meron naman several cases of babies having cataracts.

Thank you, I hope so too. They said that the surgery will take about 30mins or so. Healing is also faster in babies. But the after surgery is very meticulous kasi pa balik2x sa Pedia Opta for check up until the baby grows old to check on Glaucoma.

My son is 5months old nah, but no choice kasi uunahin muna namin yung heart nya before the eyes. I hope somehow may vision naman siya after the cataract surgery kasi both eyes yung affected. I hope that your niece will be ok soon.

sis, ang kilala kong magaling na doctor sa mata si Dr. Noel Lacsamana. May clinic sya sa st. Lukes, meron sa bulacan at meron din sa pampanga. He also helps patients kung alam nyang kulang ang budget. Wala ko mabibigay contact number sayo... Pero hanap mo na lang po.
