when and how did you train your little one to speak in english?

Hi I have a 4 month old baby and I just want to know when should I start training her so that she can speak and understand English also how did you start? Any tips naman to share?

I would like her to be confident in speaking English when she grows up para hindi  nahihiya in class or any other occasions.

maybe you can start by talking to him in english and ask your family (living with you) to do the same so your son/daughter will be more familiar in english words than tagalog.

Additional question Lang from me:  so the parents talk to their kids in English, no issues yan. Pero Pano Kung half the time your kid is with the yaya. And yaya is from the province at may accent pa (ie bisaya), how do u handle?

Try to pet your child watch english cartoons such dora, umizoomi, backyardigans and all. Then when you talk to you child, try to talk to him/her im english. In that way, your child will be more familiar with english language

talk to your kids in english, let them watch english show, tell the yaya to talk in english as well.

just want to share, my youngest brother is very good in conversing in english kasi when he was young, i would speak to him in english and he watches a lot of english shows.
my step son naman (french canadian) doesn't speak english when i met him but since i don't speak french, i would speak to him in english, now he is tri-lingual (english, french, tagalog).

My husband and I talk to our 15 month old son in English around 75% of the time. We started doing this ever since he was born. Hindi lang namin makayang 100% kasi hindi rin naman kami nasanay na English all the time. My inlaws also talk to him mostly in English pero pag baby talk, in Tagalog na.

As for Yaya, she talks to him in Tagalog tapos may konting phrases or sentences in English na mostly nakukuha rin nya sa amin at sa pinapanood nilang videos/tv shows. Wala namang tono si Yaya pero worry ko lang e baka makuha ng son ko yung dialect nila ng ibang househelp kasi sila ang kasama during the day.

May nag-share sa akin na friend kong lumaking English-speaking na if you start talking to your child in English early, matri-train ang bata na mag-isip in English kaya madali na for him to speak it out. Unlike pag mas late na sya i-train, mag-iisip muna sya in Tagalog tapos iisipin nya kung paano nya sasabihin yun in English. Parang totoo nga ano? Kasi pag kakausapin ko son ko, may times na iniisip ko muna kung pano ko sasabihin in English.

My husband and I speak to our kids in English.  Kaya ngayon, hirap silang magsalita ng Filipino.  I encourage the helpers to speak to them in Filipino rather than pilit na English - not to be mean ha, just stating a fact.  I also started quizzing them on Tagalog words because Filipino as a subject is very challenging.  I also read Adarna books to them.

I noticed lang that most of my kids' friends and classmates hirap mag-Tagalog because they speak English most of the time.  Better na sanayin sa 2 languages.  Nauso na nga ang tutorial lessons on Filipino, dati walang ganyan.  Filipino is harder to learn as a language than English, in my opinion.

My husband & I speak to our baby in English pero mas lamang pa din ang Tagalog. I speak to my daughter mainly in English since it's really the only language I know. My parents and in laws keep insisiting that I need to teach her Fookien as well and from my own experience I want her to know how to converse in Tagalog too.

I think it's better to assign a language to different people so your baby is forced to learn that language fully to speak to that person. This is opposed to using multiple languages by a single person - your baby will fully master the language.

It's best to expose your child to multiple language at an early age, it's easier for them to learn. I have a distant cousin who can speak english, mandarin, fookien, italian and french!

I do not agree with having the yaya speak to the child in English unless you are sure that your yaya speaks the language well.

My husband and I talk to my daughter in English. But we let everyone else speak to her in Tagalog. At 2.7 years old, she knows how to construct sentences in both languages. Madalas pag kame kausap nya, she speaks in English. Pag yaya or everyone else, tagalog na. Someone here asked about what to do when the child gets the yaya's accent. In our case, yung tagalog ng anak ko, mejo bisaya kase ganon ang accent ng yaya nya. But it's a consequence that we have to face because we are working parents and madalas na yaya ang kausap nya. The child will shake the accent off eventually but we correct her whenever we can. Her yaya uses phrases and words that we use with our daughter. Ok na ko don.

^me and my husband seldom talks to my daughter in english. When she started schooling, dun niya na natutunan.
exposure lang talaga sa english language. and mahilig manood ng cartoons yung anak ko like disney jr and the likes.
nung nag eenglish na ang daughter namin that's the time we speak to her in english.

di naman kami pinalaking ma-english so why would i do that to my daughter? just to look "pasosyal"? invest in a
good school and everything else will follow. na-observe ko kasi minsan kahit sa mall? mali mali english ng nanay maka english lang sa anak.

i said "yes, don't touch anything because its dirty" narinig ata nung nanay na isa, then she started talking na din in english, sabi sa anak, "you sit on the chair slowly" naririnig ko lang naisip ko

Since kanya-kanya naman tayo ng trip e oks lang if meron ang gusto magaling sa ingles ang anak nila.

Nabother lang ako sa nabasa ko na ini-equate ang confidence sa socialization ng isang bata sa pagsasalita ng ingles kaya napa-post ako dito.

Madalas kasi ako nakakaencounter na mga ang iingay na kabataan at sobrang papansin lakas2x ng mga boses at english ng english. Sumobra ang confidence naging K S P? Sabagay baka sadyang maiingay lang sila at nagkataon yun ang salita nila. Nakakairita lang sa tenga.

my niece has been watching a lot of english-language kids' show since she was 2. fluent sya sa english pag nakikipag usap sa mga english speaking kids. pero pag sa bahay tagalog ang usap namin. she doesn't have a problem switching from english to tagalog. pag bata naman talaga madali maka absorb ng languages.

True I hear alot of people speaking in english na mali mali makapag salita lang. Thats exactly why I would want to train my child to be able to speak the language properly, I want her to be able to speak english with me and her father but speak in filipino if she needs to.

 was brought up kasi in a non english speaking home and I had a hard time speaking with my english teacher back then when I was in elementary because I was not confident enough I wasn't sure whether I was replying correctly or not.

I just don't want my kid to speak in english with alot of pauses and ums in between. Di ba mas maganda pakingan yung straight and fluent yung mga sinasabing words ng bata? Lastly I agree that enrolling in a good school is probably the best option not only to encourage speaking properly but also to educate the kid, pero kung sa simpleng school ko lang kaya paaralin si baby baka magaya lang din sya sakin before na nahihiya mag ingles.

As I've said kanya-kanya tayo ng gustong pagpapalaki sa mga anak natin, maraming factors yan kung bakit yun ang gusto natin. 

Confidence at socialization kasi ang unang naibigay na premise,kaya ako napareact. Now academic performance  na kaya medyo mas maraming factors pa yan.

Anyway, aside sa maganda at magaling na school dapat maganda na environment at community ang maiprovide natin sa mga anak natin para mas maenganyo sila na magsalita sa ingles. Mas magiging natural at hindi pilit.

I read somewhere na  mas maganda rin daw kung bilingual ang bata.  Marunong magtagalog at english.  Mahirap kasi kung english speaking tapos ang magiging kalaro eh tagalog speaking.    Kahit iba ibang language pa daw yan, ok lang as long as hinde baluktot or hinde taglish.   Mas malilito daw kasi ang bata kapag taglish ang salita, hinde matututo ng proper sentence construction. So okay lang din kung sa parents english, then sa yaya tagalog.

Minsan kahit sa tagalog mo pinalaki ang bata, kapag nasanay manood ng mga english cartoons, or maexpose sa english speaking people, maadapt na nila yung english.
