Pa join mga sis.

Just got married last year (sept 22, 2012) and we now have a little bundle of joy.

Share ko lang mga financial concern/s ko.

My hubby and I are still dependent with our parent/s. We live to his parents house on a weekdays, then to our house on a weekends. Our condo kasi will be hopefully turnover by next year (2014) as early as the 3rd quarter... I WISH.

so basically, konti lang ang mga gastusin namen... like mobile bills, insurance, condo fees (downpayment) and our monthly baon.

Now dumating si baby, nadadagdagan na gastos.... to the point na sagad na sagad na kame... no savings and minsan humihingi na kame ng baon sa parents namen. hehe kahiya)

now here's my concern.... since my husband and I both working.... ayaw ni hubby pagsamahin money namen. I have this feeling na parang feeling nya ginugulangan ko siya. so lahat ng bayarin ay 50/50. Fair, yes i could say pero minsan naiirita ako...

***RANT COMMING....****
nung baptisim ng baby namen we only get the 30/pax guest kasi low budget kame... so i was hoping na sige u get ur 15 guest on ur side ill get mine... pero it turns out na only my immediate family (my parents and 2 siblings) and bestfriend (2) are only invited because 28 of the guest are in his side na... plus he expect me to pay half of the fee in the restaurant. My dad said na we will have a separate celebration nalang in our house to accommodate my side of the family...

i dont know.... i did not bring this up to my hubby.... baka nagiging OA lang ako .... pero thats how i feel lately. siguro dahil wala pa ako sweldo ngyon dahil naka maternity leave ako. I am now pressured to look for a high paying job tuloy... haay....  :-\

Hello sis, I'm not married yet but if I'm going to get married next year I prefer to have common fund with my husband. His assets(and liabilities) anyway is also mine -- conjugal property right?. Hehe His losses, will be also my downfall, his profit will be also my gain. I'm running into concept that in our wedding we promised to support and be with each other in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad. So we are not two separate individuals anymore, we are already one. One family. For me [textspeak!] this also applies to both of you. You and your husband are one and no need to make "bilang"  the money that one is giving for the family. I know it is hard if both of you are financially challenge, pressure and stress comes in. But making mabilang is not helpful. It invites negatives vibes. If I were you these are the steps I will take.

1. Talk to my husband and remind him that we are now a family. We will pray together and ask God's guidance everyday to change our hearts and have peace to go through this difficult time as husband and wife.
2. Brainstorm with my husband how we can uplift our family's financial status. If someone needs to get a high paying job, so be it.
3. Make a plan with my husband, how we can start deattaching ourselves from being dependent to our parents.
4. We will pray together and ask God's guidance everyday to change our hearts and have peace to go through this difficult time as husband and wife.

God bless you sis and your new baby!

Priceless

^I love your sense of idealism, my dear, but married life does not work that way, IMHO. In paper, in theory, this "we are one" thinking is good, pero in practice, and in real life, it doesn't quite work the same way.

I agree that prior to marriage, you need to have a long, serious and proper chat with your partner on financial matters. You need to come clean kung ano ang assets and liabilities nyo, kung ano yung mga personal financial obligations ninyo, past, present and those you think are in the imminent future (e.g. supporting parents, siblings, etc etc). And then agree on how you want to handle things - perhaps you maintain a joint account, perhaps you have your own separate accounts but agree as to who spends for what. But it is best that you and your husband keep a little money aside separately (whether or not you put it in a separate bank account) para sa sarili nyong maliliit na gastos, like toiletries, pang-coffee, pangpa-gupit or nail salon, etc. Don't kill the individuals in you just because you got married. After all, your remain to be two separate beings naman.

Personally, my husband and I have our own money - he works, I work. We both have successful careers, albeit he earns much more than I do. I never question his spending, he never questions mine, because beneath all this we both know that the other is financially responsible and quite prudent when it comes to spending. When it comes to "big ticket items" including any investment, we both discuss and agree before buying/spending. He spends for the bigger household expenses, while I pay for things like utilities, househelp, groceries, etc.

^^If you haven't done so, maybe you need to sit down with your hubby and list down all the household expenses, including your personal expenses. Then you can track where the money goes to, and how much you actually need or how much more you can trim from your current spending habits. If he doesn't want to "combine" your money, I think that's fine as long as you both agree how much you both need to put into your "pooled" income to pay for the monthly expenses. As for your baby's baptism, did you actually pay for half of the expenses? If you did, then perhaps gently gently tell him that you would like to contribute some money towards the celebration at your parents' house.

^I couldn't agree more. When I pushed to have my own money after getting married, it significantly reduced arguments about money matters.

^^true! And I'm not here to "kill" you ideal marriage set-up financially, ang ganda naman talaga if ganyan ang magiging set-up. but same here, we had a long serious talk about money, and yes we agreed about the what's yours is mine and vice versa. pero while my husband provides for almost 90% of my and our needs, we also have our own separate money/savings and we both know it. that's not in the plan, but it happens to be more convenient and practical. and we're ok with it. ang hirap naman kasi ultimong pambili ko ng panty i-asa ko pa sakanya haha! besides, I am working naman. wala ding accounting o tuusan who paid for what, or what I did with the money he gives me. like what my mommy said, iba pa rin pag may sarili kang pera/ipon.

^^thanks sis Priceless.... yes we had a talk naman... and agreed na we keep our own income and as for the expenses we divide it equally (his is our condo monthly dwnpayment, mine will be our phone bills, insurance, and gas)... we are fine with this set up..

but ng ka issue lang ako itong baptisim ni baby... 1. i dont have income kasi naka maternity leave ako 2. i only got my 13 month pay and yun lang magiging money ko sa ngyon hanggang pag balik ko sa work....

haaay , i guess you are right i need to talk to my hubby about it... if siguro maulit yung ganung situation hehe....

I also agree, I too had this ideal plan in my mind before we got married. we talked about it and agreed to it...pero pag dating sa actual parang naiba na. hehe....

Before getting married, we agreed na we'll avoid having money issues. Sabi nya, iyun daw pinakamadaling resolusyunan kasi material sha, definite kung baga... A lot harder if ugali, religion, principles, families.

My husband and I are both very independent so nakahiwalay kami agad sa family. Nagstart kami kapos talaga, we were living in an apartment, no car, kahit aircon wala. Pero somehow, never naman naging issue sa min yun. We started na kanya kanya. Halos hati sa lahat ng bagay except for the rental, sha nagtatake care nun. Di ako yung tipo "magpapabuhay" sa guy, as long as he's hard working and responsible, ok lang for me to take care of more bills. However, maswerte ako kasi my husband is very good sa finances. He never buy anything na hindi nya kayang bilhin, we never had celebrations before like birthday parties if magiging 0 savings namin or magiging negative (ayaw nya ng credit card). Adik sha sa pagsasave  ;D. It paid of since we're comfortable now.

Like what the other people here had suggested, talk to your hubby. I think it is better to talk about it habang walang issue para hindi sha maging defensive. It's going to be hard if you start your conversation dahil "you paid more sa binyag e konti lang naman bisita mo." Baka pagmulan ng away. Talk about money matters in general, suggest a few things na tingin mo will help your family.

siguro ill let this binyag issue pass muna...yes... you are right, we need to talk about financial matters in general at walang ibang problem... thanks mga sis...

In our case, every sweldo, husband and I would widraw all our sweldo and sit down and separate the payments for the bills (cable, electricity, tuition, water, insurance, yaya, grocery, etc). What I'm just thankful of though is wala kaming utang, except for the salary loan sa SSS kasi if you will not use daw, someone will. waaaahhh... ang hirap talagang magbudget! >:(

Guytalker here...Been there.. Done that...Had experienced also the way you guys/gals are having experiencing now and during the early stage of being husband and wife we really struggled how we can stay afloat to meet both ends.  Fortunately, we survived the weather of the storm when I was given the opportunity and was recruited to work abroad and until now still working here. Been able to acquired real properties already including B/N SUV car and I could see the tangible things that I gained through  perseverance... I wouldn't be an avid golfer if I didn't persevere in life. Ang akin lang ay tyagaaan lang talaga ang buhay while at the same time looking for an opportunity to get over the hard life.

I'm too scared na tuloy mag-bf or mag-asawa lol.  :'( Sana may gadget pang detect kung hard working ba itong ito and knows the value of money and the level ng understanding sa financial responsibilities/fitness...  :o

Me and my hubby dont fight about money. Never naging issue sa amin.

We do not have high paying jobs. We were renting a place but had to go back and live with his family kasi we are saving up for a house.
Our money setup is like this. Separate accounts then one account for house.
Kanya kanyang gastos but end of the month yung expenses like sweldo ni yaya, grocery, etc. I compute then divide tapos singilin ko siya. Then end of the year we put money in our housw account.

I think even when you're just dating you can tell. Lumalabas ang luho. Kita mo naman kung nagtatabi ng money. Yung work ethic you can also gauge kung lagi na siya late pumasok o late sa mga deadline niya. Sometimes kasi as women we enjoy bring pampered and spoiled that we don't look beyond it anymore. Yun pala baon na yung guy sa credit card debt, etc.

My husband and I used to have separate accounts and isang joint where we put equal amount for expenses. Meron pa din gulo sometimes over which expenses should be shared or not. Usually yung major purchases like car, appliance, furniture, trips. Pero by now acknowledged na mas okay ako humawak ng money (our savings grow more under me) so we're doing it the old fashioned way of him giving all his salary and I just give him a fixed allowance for his gas, toll, lunch and weekly night out.

i guess i am lucky with my hubby kasi before we got married, we had a talk about our finances and it is still how it is more than a year after getting married though we still don't have a baby. basically, whatever we had prior to marriage including dowries, pamana, gifts, etc from our parents would be ours.

anything after the wedding is shared and what we did is we combined our salaries and then set a certain percentage to savings, expenses, my spending money and his spending money. so we are free to buy whatever we like from the spending money and pay for bills and what nots from the expenses.

I think that strategy works fine as long as both of you are doing well and staying afloat. It becomes an issue when someone has to stop working for a while and becomes non-contributory. In our case it was an issue after we had out first child and I was in between jobs. Good thing we were open-minded enough to adjust and try out new strategies. We tried it his way and we tried it my way until we arrived at our present set-up which has been in place for almost 10years.

I think we should also credit that we've both matured enough to know what is worth fighting about and what isn't. We've also reached positions in our professional lives so that money isn't so tight and it is easier to budget. Money isn't a stressor anymore.

i agree with sis ags, there are signs naman that tell if anong level of financial maturity your bf or h2b has. being married to one of the most practical man i knew these are the things that shows he is responsible enough
- he and his family lives a simple life even if they can afford some luxury. siguro dahil galing sa hirap mas maingat sila sa pera nun mejo naging comfortable na sila.if he invites you to meet his parents or siblings observe mo siguro yung mga gamit nila, do they have the basic necessities or  puro luho un displays. or with siblings naman if they exhibit branded clothes/things pero dependent on their parents. or is it the other way around wherein puro kwento ang parents ng naibigay ng bf mo. which probably means you can expect that he will still support his family even if you're married.
-hindi sya galante. some will probably be turned off kasi most girls talaga likes to be pampered. but be careful din and know how he makes ends meet despite you always having dinner or watching movies or giving expensive gifts. may mga time pa nga na dutch treat kami on date. i think early on i realized that in the future we need to divide the expenses and i'm ok with it.
-hindi sya mahilig sa gadgets. most guys are boys that just became taller and their love for toys became bigger also. never sya naging into cellphones, or xbox or led tv. we have inherited  2 crt tv and up to now mukhang malabo pa mapalitan. oh well ok lan naman kasi 3 lan channel namin (CN, disney channel, disney jr hehe)
para sa kin hindi importante kung sino mas malaki ang sweldo or share on your funds. the important thing is that you won't be a burden on your partner. ok lang naman ang luxury pero dapat unahin lagi ang necessities.  ;)

180deg turn for my hubby... nung single pa sya... lubog sa utang, walang pundar, walang ipon, etc.  Meron lang syang job that he works really hard at.  2-yr Vocational course lang natapos nya at galing sa super hirap na family na may 8 kapatid.

Somehow, he turned himself around once we got married.  He got a degree and is now an Assistant Manager in a big Multi-National Company in SG.  Dunno how he did it.

We struggled at first and probably still struggling now.

But the best pa rin kung 0-liabilities at may ipon before settling down.

Hello mga sis. Just wanna ask--how do you handle your husband or hubby-to-be supporting his family's finances (electric bill, emergency funds, etc)? Before you get married, napagusapan niyo na ba ito? Up to what extent would you allow your hubby to support his family?

My boyfriend and I already have plans but I'm afraid na hindi kami makaipon agad because obviously I'm not his priority as of now. It's not that I'm being selfish or what, pero siguro it's normal for a girl to expect more from him since we're turning 7 (years) na next year. Do correct me if i'm wrong. I just want a girl's point of view who experience or currently experiencing this.

Recently, we got into a fight which I think is hindi naman dapat--it's a money issue. Nagkasundo kami to save up for our future/wedding and promised NOT to spend it no matter what. Note that he asked me to make a promise kasi he knows na I'm magastos at times. Months passed, hindi ko ito ginagalaw kasi nga I promised. Then one day, he asked me to borrow a certain amount from our savings kasi he's funding yun pagpapagawa ng additional floor ng house nila. He's getting it from his salary naman but since it's days away from payday pa, and he wants na tuloy-tuloy na yun paggawa, he borrowed money. I was hesitant at first kasi nga he promised. I didn't say No directly pero I suggested him to look for other ways aside from getting an amount from our savings nga. He said Ok, it's okay, no problem pero I know in my heart na it's NOT. So I insisted to talk him the next day, and from there lumabas nga na masama loob niya kasi he promised na ibabalik din naman ito agad. I feel like I've been judged, kasi he said things na nasaktan ako. He said sorry naman the next day, and to cut the story short, I let him borrow from our savings kasi I told him na this is one of the last things na pagawayan namin.

I'm just worried that this might happen again, and I can feel na there's more to come. Please help me, girls. Thank you!

Never namin pinagawayan yung pera kasi alam nya may solusyon dun. Nagkasabay sabay lang talaga siguro, saka test din siguro ito ni God kung susuko kami.
