My son was tested for Dyslexia, now what?

Napansin ko that he is having difficulty in school work like reading and copying ng mga notes. He is good in math naman except reading and spelling. We waited till he is 8 before we had him tested.

So, the Dev Ped said he has a Language-based Learning disability (LD) in Reading, writing and Spelling. Aka Dyslexia.  I am not worried kasi it is not a bad thing at all but iba lang siya mag process ng info and May extra effort lang needed so he can cope.

Besides,even Albert Einstein is dyslexic and other well known US presidents, Entrepreneurs and Actors.  We are happy that we had him tested early than being late kasi we don't like to let his self esteem fall naman as he progress in school.

I am just saying this out loud to parents who have kids who are struggling in school. You might be wondering why your child have low grades, hates to go to school, always mad about school or doesn't even want to go to school - then you should test him for Dyslexia. There are also other forms of Learning Disability like Dysgraphia (LD with writing) or Dyscalculia (LD in comprehending Math or calcuations).

Since my son was diagnosed but he is not way below pa his level bec I was giving him other reading interventions na. The doctor recommended other interventions. Baka may mga share naman kayo na centers specifically for learning Disability (LD) esp Dyslexia na available locally. Either we can do online or bring him sa center.

Please share if you have too, yung improvements when you enrolled your kid in that system.

Sharing this also to help parents not to quickly judge your kids if they are not doing well in school yun pala they are really struggling and needed our help and not to put down their self-esteem or think that they are dumb or lazy.

Hi sis!  I do not know any language development specialist.  I spoke before to a reading specialist.  Her name is Pia Pulido and her center is at Tycoon Building in Ortigas, same floor as Therabilities.  Meron din reading specialist at Healing Touch in Sikatuna.  They might be able to help your son.

sis icebaby try to scout by calling all the Sped schools in the South... for sure one of them has an in-house Language Development Specialist.

Dyslexia is one of those learning disabilities that is almost not talked about.

Children with dyslexia try as hard as regular kids, but they are labeled as 'tamad and bobo', because unlike other difference, there is no physical manifestation.

Symptoms include difficulty learning letters and sounds, reading and spelling errors and writing difficulties.

Kids with dyslexia will benefit from a multi-sensory and systematic reading therapy.

Hi Sis, i know a school who caters with LD and dyslexia...The Anima Christi Center in Alabang Hills. They might help your son there.     That is a special school with regular curriculum, it means may special accomodation ang teachers for every child. Hopefully this info will help.
