Hi sisses, worth it ba ang Rolex watch? is it a good investment? Do you know any reputable store that sells second hand rolex watches?

The reason I asked if its a good investment kasi recently my friend and I had a discussion about this, she and her hubby had an argument, my friend kasi wanted to buy one, kahit hindi brandnew, ok na sa kaya ang second hand basta guaranteed authentic, she likes the ladies watch na two-tone with diamonds inside, oyster perpetual datejust, nag ra-range daw from 150k to 190k.

She's going to use her own savings naman, as in hindi magbibigay ang hubby niya. As of now, meron siya savings na more or less nasa 1.6M as in nakatago lang sa bank and yun nga babawasan niya ng 200k to buy the rolex watch for herself. so syempre si hubby niya hindi approve and sinabihan sya na hindi pa naman kalakihan yung pera niya sa bank and hindi naman daw worth it yung rolex as investment kasi nga naman paano daw tatawagin na investment watch yun eh pag binenta mo hindi naman nag appreciate ang value. The way I understand it, parang he meant na for example you bought this rolex watch for 300k, hindi naman 300k or more ang resale value niya.

Ako naman, advise ko, if she really wanted it, then go, tutal savings naman niya eh, and as if naman from her 1.6M na savings, more than half ang mababawas, hindi naman.

Your thoughts mga sis?

ALso, yung mga rolex store ba sa mall pwede sila mag authenticate ng rolex watch or sa rolex office mismo yung tapat ng greenbelt/forty weeks in makati? kasi my friend saw an online seller pero no box and authenticity card, but it looks original naman, para sana mag meet up nalang sila then punta ng rolex store para pa-authenticate yung watch.

Depende. during my university days, undergrad, i'd join business networking events and family business seminars
ng graduate business school namin. business men there are the creme de la creme of phil society
napansin ko, yung mga naka Rolex (and other brands of the same sophistication) ang usually nilalapitan
at kinakausap. parang may some kind of fraternity na automatic, friends na kayo; close na kayo. kapag wala
kang rolex, medyo naiisang tabi ka OR tuwing umiimik ka, hindi binibigyan ng value yung sinasabi mo.

but of course, alam naman natin, pang initial attraction lang yan. you'd still have to back up what your mouth says.
but at least you have one foot in -- you have their attention. so it can be a business tool; regardless of savings. malay

sa ibang bansa naman, bale wala ang Rolex. napagiipunan lang naman yan at iba ang

i got very interested on the Rolex post and decided to call Secondo, they said that they do accept kahit walang papers, yehey!

^^yes.depende talaga.but sa akin personally,di ko gugustuhing makiconnect sa mga taong nangingilatis ng kapal ng wallet base sa suot.ang babaw lang.

Personally, I wouldn't consider a Rolex as an 'investment', although I've heard that Rolex watches hold their value better than others.

a watch is not an investment. certain models and limited edition lang tumataas. my friend is a philippine watch club member. better check their forum. it helped me a lot in getting my first watch

I believe yung mga limited edition na rolex increase in value over time.

I agree that your friend might want to let go of having that watch right now. I personally have 2 rolex watches, one is a ladies watch na parang ralph lauren the design inside bought in hk a long time ago, still looks the same now and tumaas naman the value when i checked rolex stores. My fave is the new one with diamonds na puro rolex inside. Iniisip ko lang if i should have my older rolex cleaned na and buffed kasi dami na gasgas.

In terms of attracting attention, meron din siguro ganung effect pero my tag also with diamonds get attention too.

By the way people in europe know rolex and they comment talaga sa watch ko, i know kasi twice na may nagcompliment sakin, and feeling ko they treat me well din inside the luxury store. Yun lang, pro luho to, so your friend should think twice.

If you're really looking into buying a watch as an 'investment' there are other brands that are better than Rolex.

For me, my Rolex  is the most practical watch.  It's an investment for making my daily life easier.  It's sturdy, comfy & yes, an ice-breaker.  (What can we do with people who gauge your worth 1st before listening to your content? The medium is the message, blah blah blah -- haynaku. )

So, it is an investment if I view it as something that is functional and reinforces my image as a capable contractor.   (Aanhin nila ang contractor na naka Swatch nga naman? Just saying, it's their loss; but I seek to convince & if a Rolex makes it easier -- go.)

But if I am  gonna think of selling it -- it isn't an investment since it isn't likely I will get back my purchase price.  Actually, the ladies' Rolex re-sale prices have remained steady for the past few years (though prices have gone up, specially for the good ones) -- since the market nowadays prefers bigger faced watches daw. 

The disadvantage is - you can't just wear it anywhere.  I prefer to not use expensive watches when traveling abroad, for safety reasons.

If I were your friend, given the disapproval of her husband -- don't buy.  Choose your battles well, ika nga.  After the savings have grown, or he has more disposable income --  he may even be the 1 to urge her to buy a brand-new gold Rolex.

pag walang rolex, wala ka. kahit maganda pa business plan mo.  daig ka pa ng happy go lucky anak mayaman na walang direction sa buhay na naka rolex. mas papansinin sya.

they say, sometimes in life, all you need is a foot in the door.

in the Philippines, that will happen if you have a Rolex because that's how the Rich rolls. may mga set ways of thinking na kasi

sa ibang bansa, iba naman ang sukatan ng rich. depende sa bansa.  in some countries, a Rolex won't do much

Exactly.  A *lot* of other great brands/watches other than Rolex.

^^. Yes, AKTHUNG, a Rolex is not enough.   A Rolex is seen as gauche, maybe as nouveau riche, a trinket by the real rich (not me -  yet. Hahaha.  Ambisyosa). 

^ yes, there are many more brands that make the Rolex  look mediocre.  But it is just the Rolex under consideration.  IMO, it's the most easily recognized watch hereabouts.

It can do a lot naman in Pinas. well, after you get your foot in, you have to "show them more." your pen, clothes, shoes, car, condo/house. of course this was afte talking to the rolex boys and the omega boys

actually my friend Rei taught me these noon Uni. hindi ako nakinig. well, nakinig ako but i shelved it somewhere in my brain. kasi he recommended me na mag rolex, plus mont blanc pen, 20k pesos shoes (this was 99), etc etc...

I got to experience this hard truth after Uni. fresh na fresh grad ako noon, trying to network. mingling with the big boys et al.  the people with rolex watches are the ones talaga who are able to get a foot in the door - start the conversation.  the big wigs have eagle eyes for those na nakaRolex. parang trying to find a pretty girl in a crowded bar.

Other expensive brands not so much.  but they get second dibs after na exhaust ang naka Rolex.

and moi, wala. hehe spectator. kundi lang marami akong kilala na common friends, hindi nila ako kinausap.

kung hindi lang ako na wili sa Esoteric baka naka bili ako ng rolex 2-3 years after graduation. hehe

^you need no Rolex.  But well, AGREE. -- it sure adds to the paper weight  of a calling card.
